Let’s say hello to sunshine and blue skies as Lifestyle shares plenty of exciting events to celebrate!
In March, come enjoy the next installment of our National Cooking & Cocktail Series: The Art of Sushi and Sake! Dominic Lane
YOUR FITNESS MANAGER
Dominic comes to us as a Certified Strength Coach and Certified Personal Trainer with over 10 years’ experience in the fitness industry. Dominic loves to create a wellness experience that makes Members feel proud of themselves, while having fun. Having worked with clients from 55 and up to training professional athletes, Dominic knows the key to setting up programming that will challenge everyone in a safe and skillful way.
Growing up in Memphis, TN from a sports family, Dominic started playing football at an early age. He earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Mississippi where he achieved a degree in Physical Education. He went on to play professional football for 6 seasons, signing to the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills, as well as playing overseas and earning two championship rings in the Arena Football League. It was being a professional athlete that gave Dominic the drive to want to be a fitness professional after ending his professional sports career.
He set out to help clients of all ages and more importantly 55 and up to achieve their fitness goals. Having a range of knowledge in different training methods from functional training, weight training, and fat burning, he strove to help others switch to a healthy lifestyle in a fun way that makes the experience one that they will always love. When Dominic is not in the gym helping clients or creating fitness programming, he enjoys being a father to his 7-year-old son as well as mentoring youth athletes and traveling.

CONCIERGE
Brian & Phyllis Maguire
The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.
Why did you choose Esplanade at Wiregrass Ranch?
Brian: I chose Esplanade because of the open layout, quality of construction and its location in Wesley Chapel.
Phyllis: We moved to Florida from Northern Virginia to be closer to our daughter and her family. We also have a son and two grandchildren in California. Our real estate agent recommended Esplanade and after looking at the website, I was in love with the various house styles, layouts, the amenities and social activities being offered. After seeing the model homes, nothing else compared to Esplanade and we felt this was the best fit for us. We are the new kids on the block, Graticola Road, and the only ones moved in. We have met several of our future neighbors and others on their neighborhood walks. We’re looking forward to meeting more and making new friends.
QWhat Lifestyle Programming are you most interested in?
AWhat are your hobbies?
Brian: I’m most interested in using the equipment in the weight room to improve my strength and fitness.
Phyllis: We just moved in last week and have been busy with everything that’s involved in establishing our life in a new state. And then there are boxes everywhere, where’s my Fairy God Mother to twitch her nose and everything is done!? This month we plan to start signing up for various programs, classes and get that training in the weight room.
I’m a tennis player and can’t wait to get involved with David’s group clinics and other tennis activities. I haven’t been on the courts since October, when we rented while our house was being completed, so I’m itching to get back on the courts. My other major hobby is photography and I like taking pictures of landscapes and wildlife. Brian enjoys
taking pictures too and it gives us a hobby we can do together.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received or given?
Brian: The best advice I was given was “If you find yourself in a hole, STOP digging!”
Tell us something that may surprise people.
Brian: I had an all-expense paid trip around the world as an engineer on a merchant marine freighter.
Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable?
Brian: The most exciting place I ever traveled to was Alaska. Our first trip was on a small cruise ship, and we were able to get up close to the action. The second week was inland and we saw how beautiful and amazing Alaska is. The wildlife is so varied; moose, bears, eagles, bison, antelope and whales, to name a few. We loved it so much we have been back three more times.
Phyllis: Friends were stationed in Munich, and we visited them for a month. They took us everywhere and we fell in love with Munich ranging from medieval to skyscrapers and the Bavaria countryside that looked like lush green patchwork quilts with their quaint towns. We also visited Austria, Italy and Switzerland. However, the most memorable was visiting the Silent-Night-Chapel in Oberndorf, Austria. While walking to the chapel near sunset, we heard “Silent Night” being sung in German, then English by visitors. It was very moving, and it gave me the chills. We also learned the history behind “Silent Night” and how it became a global peace song. We’ll never forget our visit.

MAR/APR 2023 ESPLANADE LIFESTYLE 11 WELLNESS / ESPLANADE CONNECT
Meditative Sound Bowl Closing Ceremony
To assist in staying present and grounded, as well as taking a moment each day to share appreciation for our Members, we have implemented a ceremonial closing procedure with the use of sound meditation. Our Lifestyle Team will begin the tradition of closing with a brief note from a meditative sound bowl, signifying the end of another day.
Staying true to Esplanade’s Wellness Ecosystem, sound meditation is a part of your spiritual wellness. This tool of mindfulness meditation uses sound to focus the mind and reverberate stress away. Sound and vibration help realign the frequencies of the body, bringing us back to a state of balance, allowing our bodies to relax, soothe our souls, and heal our energy.
We hope this new meditative addition will enhance your wellness and zen, anchor your mind in the present moment and allow you to let go of distractions.
Rose & Cucumber Eye Mask
Rich in ascorbic acid and phytochemicals, cucumbers help tighten and soothe skin. They are also known to reduce swelling and remove toxins from the body. This blended mask reaches the inner and outer corners of the eyes.
INGREDIENTS
» Half a cucumber
» 1 ounce rose water
» Blender
» Cotton rounds
DIRECTIONS
This mask recipe makes quite a lot, so cut more cotton rounds in a half-moon shape than you think you’ll need. In a blender, puree the cucumber and rose water until liquefied. Transfer to a bowl soaking the rounds in the mixture, squeezing the excess, then re-soaking for optimal absorption. Store the extra soaked cotton rounds in a resealable bag in the freezer for future use. Thaw the eye pads 10 minutes before use making sure they’re still cool to help reduce puffiness. To apply, place the half-moon eye pad underneath the eye close to the bottom lash line. Leave on for 10–15 minutes.

Raspberry Rhubarb Margarita
Tequila and acidity make for an unquestionably harmonious combination, and owner Jessica Randhawa of The Forked Spoon likes to invite rhubarb into her margarita parties. “Rhubarb makes these spring cocktails slightly tangy, which complements the sweetness from the raspberries nicely. Cooking the rhubarb per the recipe also happens to give this tasty cocktail a beautiful pink color that is 100% natural.”
INGREDIENTS
1. Add 1/2 cup chopped rhubarb, 3/4 cup raspberries, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar, and the juice of 1/2 a lemon to a small saucepot and cook over medium-high heat until the mixture comes to a low boil.
2. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the rhubarb is soft.
3. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
4. Once cooled, mash the rhubarb and raspberries with the back of a fork or a wooden spoon.
5. Strain mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, extracting as much liquid as possible.
6. Pour the liquid into a jar or sealed container and place in the refrigerator to cool.
» 2 oz tequila blanco
» 2 oz fresh lime juice
» 2 oz raspberry rhubarb syrup (recipe to the left)
» 2-3 jalapeño slices
» Fresh raspberries, limes, and jalapeño, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
1. Place a thin layer of flake salt on a small plate. Rim glass with lime juice and dip each glass into the salt. Set aside.
2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and 2-3 jalapeño slices. Add the tequila, lime juice, and raspberry rhubarb syrup to the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
3. Fill prepared glass with ice and, using a cocktail strainer, pour the mixture over the ice. Garnish with fresh limes, fresh raspberries, and jalapeño slices, if desired.
