Seasons Change

By Kraig Carmickle, LCAM CEO, Evergreen Lifestyles Management The cooler weather and winter is almost upon us! I know we all look forward to a reprieve from the Florida heat and the onset of the holiday season. The weather adjustment and cheerfulness of the season is always a welcome change.

get to know Tyler a bit more, here’s a little background on him. Tyler has been married to his wife Meghan for almost 11 years and they have two children, Maddie (6) and Max (4). He received his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and graduate degree from Northern Arizona University.

As we move into winter, Solivita will see some changes in the management of the community. As you already know, Gary Consorto is the current General Manager for Solivita, but what you may not know is that Gary is retiring this month. Help me in thanking Gary for his excellent leadership and guidance at Solivita over the last few years. We will all truly miss him as he heads out on a new journey. Maybe you can stop in to say goodbye and give him some pointers on the lifestyle transition! We wish you all the best in your retirement Gary!

Tyler is a former school teacher of 12 years, and also brings experience as a community manger. He was a portfolio manager in the Phoenix area managing 10 communities and moved to Port Saint Lucie in 2015 to take the on-site position at Vitalia at Tradition, an active adult community. After a couple of years there, Tyler moved over to Fort Myers to take on the South Florida Regional Manager role where he had many communities, staff, board members and residents to manage. He has done excellent work for Evergreen Lifestyles Management and I have no doubt that will continue here at Solivita.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

With Gary’s departure, we will be moving Evergreen Lifestyle Management’s South Florida Regional Manager, Tyler Heel, into the position of Solivita’s Community Manager. Tyler and his family will be relocating to the area from Ft. Myers, so please help me make him feel welcome in Central Florida. To help you

Below is a message from Tyler to introduce himself to you. I hope you’ll stop in and say hello and welcome him to the neighborhood! Kraig Carmickle 877-221-6919 kcarmickle@evergreen-LM.com

Hello Solivita Residents! By Tyler Heel, LCAM Community Manager Gary, your current manager, has done a fantastic job at Solivita! I certainly have big shoes to fill. I am ready to provide excellent service to Solivita. I continue to hear nothing but fabulous things about the community, staff and residents. I take pride in communicating well, building relationships and providing outstanding customer service. As the on-site manager, I plan to: • Get to know and support current staff. • Provide support for customer service training with staff. • Connect with vendors. • Continue the procedures that Gary has in place.

Reflections |  December 2017 |

• Continue a 24-hr response expectation to all calls and emails from homeowners. • Continue weekly updates to the community as needed I look forward to jumping in with both feet, as well as getting to know each of you. I am blessed to have this wonderful job and look forward to the amazing things to come. I will be on-site with Gary sporadically over the next month as Gary passes the torch and I wrap things up in South Florida. Please feel free to reach out to me in the meantime at theel@evergreen-LM.com. Tyler Heel 877-221-6919 theel@evergreen-LM.com

Wrapping the Year Up!

By Shelley Destefano Community Concierge We had many unwanted presents from Mother Nature this year, including hurricanes and natural disasters all over the world. Things were very bad, but I also saw so much good. People worked together, donated and even provided shelter for others. Now we are approaching my favorite holiday of all Christmas! Once again generosity is shown by people donating gifts to help others - people they don’t even know. This is the Christmas spirit; being able to capture the good and letting it radiate through the darkness. All that love and goodness is everywhere, making this month so very special to everyone, especially children. Looking back on 2017 all I can say is that it went fast and so much is still going on, but in the end we pulled through together and there is much to be said about that! Now, let’s light up our trees, drink eggnog and be thankful as we are all blessed to be alive with everything we need. Discussing our wants is unnecessary as they may never end, but I could always start off with winning the lottery! You may not need any additional events to attend with all that is going on right here in Solivita this month, but it’s always good to have options. Check out the events below.

Holiday Matsuri 2017

Holiday Matsuri is a festively-themed anime, gaming and cosplay convention with a holiday twist, taking place from Friday, December 15th at 11am to Sunday, December 17th at 7pm at the Orlando World Center Marriott at 8701 World Center Drive. Enjoy the holidays in Orlando with fun holiday twists on cosplay, events and more. The 3-Day Pass is $55 and the 3-Day VIP Pass is $140, which includes a Holmat Swag Bag, Collectors Badge and Lanyard, 2017 T-Shirt, Premier event seating, and 1 hour early access vendor room. Please visit holidaymatsuri.com for more information.

2017 Central Florida Ballet’s Nutcracker

The Central Florida Ballet invites the residents of Solivita to enjoy an unforgettable Nutcracker performance this holiday season at the Linda Chapin Theater featuring newly-designed sets, pyrotechnics and aerial acrobatics! Show times include Friday, December 15th at 2pm or 7:30pm and Sunday, December 17th at 2pm. Ticket prices vary depending on ticket tiers ($38, $48,

|6|

and $64), but Solivita residents will receive a 40% discount! You can book online at centralfloridaballet.com. The theater is located at 9800 International Drive in Orlando.

AKC National Championship Dog Show

For all the dog lovers out there, head to the Orange County Convention Center (9899 International Drive in Orlando) on Saturday, December 16th and Sunday the 17th from 8am-5pm for the American Kennel Club’s National Championship. Saturday’s events include: All Sporting, Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting breeds, and Junior Showmanship. Sunday’s events include: All Herding, Terrier, Working, Miscellaneous Class breeds, and Best in Show. Ticket Prices: 13 and older $10; Children ages 12 and under admitted free. Each ticket is valid for the date printed on it; no exchanges or refunds. Group Judging will be in the arena. Doors open at 4:30pm (North Building-NA1 Hall, 9400 Universal Boulevard). For more information, please visit akc.org/events/national-championship. So now, as December and the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us, I find myself in the same position as every other year. I sit here wondering why it is that I could not be like the smart people who have shopped throughout the year. Instead, I will join the happy throng that share the pandemonium of what is shopping for family and friends in December. Thankfully that’s not what Christmas is about so we just need to have good intentions and hope for the best outcome! Merry Christmas! Community Concierge 863-427-7100 sdestefano@evergreen-LM.com

The author was an anonymous Anglo-Saxon poet, referred to by scholars as the “Beowulf poet.” Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, comes to the aid of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, whose mead hall in Heorot has been under attack by a monster known as Grendel. After Beowulf slays him, Grendel’s mother attacks the hall and is then also defeated. Victorious, Beowulf goes home to Geatland (Götaland in modern Sweden) and later becomes king of the Geats. After a period of fifty years has passed, Beowulf defeats a dragon, but is mortally wounded in the battle. After his death, his attendants cremate his body and erect a tower on a headland in his memory. Next Lecture: February (date TBD) will be Cry, The Beloved Country by Alan Paton.

Hello Holidays!

By Brad Thompson Branch Manager, Floralawn The holiday season is here already! We still have a lot going on all over the community. We are a couple months post-hurricane Irma and are still cleaning up some residual debris throughout the community.

A Brief Review from November

The mowing and detail schedules switched over to the offseason schedule. The mowing schedule is now bi-weekly and the detail schedule remains the same through March 2018. As we get into the cooler months, Brown Patch Fungus will be our main issue. Brown Patch Fungus affects St. Augustine grass, damaging the base of the blades. The fungus is easy to see, causing small brown circles that grow larger until treated.

Current Activities & Installations

You may have noticed the large beds of native grasses along the boulevards being trimmed. We are currently in the middle of our fifth and final lawn fertilization, our final non-native palm fertilization, and our final shrub treatment for 2017. The sod from list 1, 2, and 3 are complete. The plant list is still on hold until most likely March 2018, at which time we will pick up where we left off on list #3.

Thank You Solivita!

I want to thank all the residents for a great first year. We came into Solivita with many challenges and a hurricane to top it all off at the end. We have accomplished many things and have more to go as we move into the 2018 year. We look forward to another awesome year and many more to come. Thank you again for your business!

Floralawn Appreciation Day

On October 11th the residents of Solivita hosted a luncheon for the employees in the Starlite Ballroom. I was taken aback by the wonderful support, generosity and love we all felt from the residents. I have been in this business for 25 years and I have NEVER seen such appreciation. All of us here at Floralawn would like to say “Thank You” for such a great event, with special thanks to Pat Schmid, Diane Jorio, Judie Chiappone and Donovan Brown for putting on the event. It was AWESOME! (Check out the photos below, courtesy of Judie Chiappone.)

Next Coffee Talk

Our next Coffee Talk will be on Friday, January 26th at 9am in the Starlite Ballroom. Hope to see you there! Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
