Dear Tech Support, Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal

and Golf Clubs 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs and House Cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do? Signed, Desperate
Dear Desperate, First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: I thought you loved me.html and try to download Tears 6.2. Do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta version. Whatever you do, DO NOT, under any circumstances,

install Mother-In-Law 1.0 as it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources. In addition, please do not attempt to re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend: Cooking 3.0. Good Luck!

Be Adventurous in June! By Shelley Destefano Community Concierge
Recently, I took a walk with my family down one of the trails at Disney’s Wilderness Preserve (2700 Scrub Jay Trail in Poinciana). It was quite an adventure, especially since I got chased by a couple of bumblebees, which sent me running down the trail! As I continued my journey, I realized that I should have brought lots of water since Florida is such a hot place. We kept going and going and as I looked around it started to remind me of a desert, except with palmetto bushes and pine trees instead of sand dunes. Overall it was a pleasant experience connecting with nature in many ways and turned out to be great cardio as well. I will do it again, but I won’t wear perfume and will take lots of water before venturing down the trails!
(10 and under) are free. For more information, call 321-6973495 or visit www.silverspursrodeo.com.
Harvest Festival
From June 9th-11th enjoy the Harvest Festival in Clermont. The event features the annual grape stomping, arts and crafts, live music, wine, and food, as well as complimentary winery tours and tastings. The festival takes place at Lakeridge Winery and Vineyard from 10am-5pm. The cost for adult admission is $3 and children (12 and under) are free. A portion of the proceeds will go to support Corner Stone Hospice. For more information, call 800-768-WINE or visit www.lakeridgewinery.com. © LAKERIDGE WINERY
This year’s sweltering spring ends this month with the official start of summer on June 21st. Check out my list below for some important dates and adventures you can go on this month!
Flag Day
Wednesday, June 14th is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for our flag, its designers, and makers. Our flag is representative of our independence and our unity as a nation. It has a proud and glorious history and has lead every battle fought by Americans. Many people have died protecting it. It even stands proudly on the surface of the moon! As Americans, we have every right to be proud of our culture, our nation, and our flag. So, raise the flag today and every day with pride!
Father’s Day
Happy Father’s Day to all the super dads! On Sunday, June 18th give thanks for all the love, guidance, and strength that fathers give to their families. My husband is a wonderful father and plays such an important role in my daughter’s life. It’s important to show how much we appreciate all that the dads in our lives do on this special day!
Silver Spurs Rodeo
On June 2nd and 3rd venture out to the Silver Spurs Rodeo in Kissimmee. Sixty of professional rodeo’s top cowboys will leverage their razor-sharp reflexes and brainy brawn atop the country’s top and most unpredictable livestock! The event will take place at the Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park at 7:30pm on both nights. The cost for adults is $15 and children

Festival of the Sea
Another great event happening this month is the Festival of the Sea, which is a seafood festival that will take place at the Orlando Festival Park on June 17th from 11am to 7pm. With multiple seafood vendors, a beer and wine garden, arts and crafts vendors, and a designated play area for kids, the Festival of the Sea has fun for the whole family! Ticket prices vary. For more information, call 407-907-8162 or visit www.gopartylive.com/festivalofthesea/. No one needs to remind you how hot it is in Florida, but for all the active residents that I admire - please stay hydrated, because it’s like a furnace out there! I don’t know about you, but I’m planning on stomping on those grapes this month—it looks like so much fun and is something I have always wanted to do! Grapes between the toes seems disgustingly therapeutic in a way, but then again maybe not! One thing I know for sure is time and experience can always answer questions! 2017 ART AND LITERARY LECTURE ANNUAL PASS Residents will be admitted to any of the remaining five Art and Literary Lectures by purchasing an Annual Pass for $10 per person. Lectures will be advertised under the Solivita University article in Reflections. Art classes, presented by Art Historian Jan Clanton, are on Tuesdays at 1pm in the Ballroom, returning in the fall. Literary Lectures, taught by resident Professor Thomas Gallagher, take place this semester on Mondays at 4pm at The Palms. If you choose not to purchase an Annual Pass and want to attend a lecture, admission is $5 per lecture at the door. You will need to show your pass when entering these lectures. Art and Literary passes are for Art and Literature Lectures only. LITERARY LECTURE Have your 2017 Annual Pass in hand for quick entry! Book: Animal Farm by George Orwell • Monday, June 26th • 4pm • The Palms • Tuition: Art and Literary 2017 Pass or $5 at the door Professor: Thomas Gallagher, a Solivita resident, who has taught both literature and law during his career. He is currently teaching government at Valencia College. Course Description: It is a “Fairy Story” in the style of Aesop’s fables. On one level it’s a savage political satire on corrupted ideals, misdirected revolutions and class conflict-themes as valid today as they were sixty years ago. Manor Farm is like any other English farm, expect a drunken owner, incompetent workers and oppressed animals. Fed up with the ignorance of their human masters, the animals rise up in rebellion and take over the farm.

Led by intellectually superior pigs like Snowball and Napoleon, the animals take charge of their destiny and remove the inequities of their lives. But as time passes, they realize that things aren’t happening quite as expected. Next Lecture: Returns this fall. THE US CONSTITUTION: THEN AND NOW Thursdays, June 15th, 22nd and 29th • 10am • The Palms Tuition: $20 per resident student and their adult guests welcome Presenter: Thomas Gallagher, a Solivita resident who has taught both literature and law during his career. He currently teaches government at Valencia College. Course Description: In 1776 the Founding Fathers created our Constitution based on their experiences and dreams for our Country. This course will examine the intentions and concerns of the authors against the interpretation of the 21st Century. We will consider why the Bill of Rights was written and examine some of the most currently discussed amendments. The content covered will be governed by the amount of time allotted to the Course.
A FRIEND WHO HAS LEFT US, BUT IS NOT FORGOTTEN Fred Letchford Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the resident who recently passed away. Fred Letchford

Jumping Into June
By Brad Thompson Branch Manager, Floralawn The official beginning of summer launches our season of afternoon rains, thick humidity, and grass that grows an inch while you’re taking an afternoon nap. It also launches our 8-10-week community-wide chinch bug insecticide protocol.
is a chemical application. Still, chinch bugs have developed a resistance to these systemic insecticides, and applications usually must be repeated in sections or spots for complete eradication. Resistance to chemicals and repeated outbreaks make the chinch bug difficult and expensive to get rid of.
What are chinch bugs? They are a tiny pest, barely 6 mm long, that cause millions of dollars of damage every year to turf and pasture grass in the southern United States.
At Floralawn, we’re very familiar with chinch bugs and the damage they cause. We bring this experience and knowledge to Solivita, where we use an effective systemic application, re-treating where necessary, to eradicate and control these turf pests.
Chinch bugs love St. Augustine grass, and for this reason, they have gained notoriety as the second most-expensive plantfeeding arthropod in Florida. They live around the roots and bases of St. Augustine grass during the winter, begin infestations in spring, and thrive during the summer. The damage they inflict is visible and distinctive. They feed voraciously on the bases of grass blades, draining the sap from the blades, and then injecting a poison that makes the grass wither, turn brownish-yellow, and finally die. When they’ve killed one area of turf, they migrate to an adjacent area and feed there until those blades die as well.
In addition to this summer chinch bug management program, in June our crews will continue to prepare the community for summer storms. This means inspecting all palms and trees that are close to structures and touching walls and roofs. We trim these limbs back to mitigate damage during storms. Later this month, on Friday, June 23rd at 9am, I will give another Coffee Talk in the Starlite Ballroom. Don’t forget to get a raffle ticket at this event!
While there are cultural controls for chinch bugs (proper mowing, fertilization, and irrigation), the most effective form of control
SPEED ENFORCEMENT IN SOLIVITA The HOA, Security, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week from residents. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results.
