Solivita Club Reminders
BY SHERI WOLLSCHLAGER CLUB MANAGER Now that more community clubs are having events and meeting again, the Evergreen Lifestyles Management Team (ELM) would like to give a few friendly reminders to all clubs. All residents are required to carry and use your Resident ID Badges to gain access to the Club facilities. Verification of Club Membership is easily done by showing your Resident ID Badge and helps the ELM Team quickly identify who is authorized to use the facilities. Please also remember gaining access with someone else’s Resident ID Badge is against the Rules and Regulations. Anyone attending a community club event that does not have a Resident ID Badge is considered a guest and must present a guest pass before entering. The community club members telling the staff, “They are with us” does not verify their Membership to the Club and will not be granted access. If you are asked to show your Resident ID Badge and do not have it, you will not be able to access the facility. Please do not give the staff a hard time because it is your responsibility to gain access to the Club facilities using your Resident ID Badge. Also please understand propping the doors open or taping the door locks (as we have found at the few Club facilities) to bypass the badge readers will allow anyone to gain access to the facilities and defeats the whole purpose of Resident ID Badges to allow only Members to use the Club facilities. Guest passes are required for all guests (three years and older) that are using Club facilities, with the exception of complimentary events and events your guest has purchased tickets for. ALL guests participating in a community club activity, MUST purchase a guest pass. The ELM team has also noticed an increase in attendance at the Club facilities mainly the pools and gyms. Please see below for friendly reminders. » Remember when using the gyms, proper workout attire is required. Please wear fitness attire that does not prevent body heat from escaping (ex: denim). » Closed toe shoes are required at all times. NO sandals or flip-flops. » Please use a towel or cover-up when using the sauna. Be considerate of others and only sit, do not lay in the saunas. 4
» After using the pools, please COMPLETELY dry off before entering the buildings. Entering the building when wet, could create a slip hazard for yourself and others.
Community Pool Friendly Reminders
» Guest passes are required for all your visitors using Club facilities and they must be able to present the passes when asked. Legal ID is required to purchase adult passes. » Guest passes can be purchased at The Palms or Riviera Spa & Fitness Center and are $1 per guest, per day or $5 per guest for a 7-day pass. » Hours for the kids at The Palms are Monday through Friday, 12pm-4pm, Saturday and Sunday all day. This includes the pool, pool deck, and corn hole area. » Entrance to The Palms is through the Main Lobby ONLY. Do not enter through Fitness or the exit gates located on the pool deck. » Children still in diapers are allowed to use the pools but they MUST wear swimmer diapers. » No alcoholic beverages allowed unless purchased from our Food & Beverage Department. » No glass bottles or containers of any kind. » Food and beverages need to be no less than 5 feet away from pool. » Pool furniture must be no less than 5 feet away from pools edge. » Please be aware of and respect those who are swimming laps (The Palms primarily). » No saving seats at the pool. Seating is limited on the pool decks. If the pool is full; please limit your time to allow for others to enjoy the pool. » No taking indoor chairs out to the pool deck. » No smoking or vaping is permitted inside the pool gates. » Exit The Palms pool by using the exit gates on the pool deck.
Thank you for reviewing these reminders. With everyone’s assistance in following the rules, we will have an outstanding and enjoyable Solivita summer!

Our independent judges scoured the Verona neighborhood for our latest Yard of the Month and chose the home of Harry and Barb Hinman at 739 San Joaquin. In a Disaster, What CAN You Do? BY SOLIVITA CERT
In case of a large-scale disaster (like a hurricane), power could be out for a few days or more. Roads may be impassable due to flooding or washouts. Local stores may not have power for you to resupply. You may need cash only.
has enough food and water for seven days. Don’t forget that manual can opener.
How Do You Repair Minor Damage?
Obtain a battery-operated radio (weather radio tuned to S.A.M.E. codes 12105 and 12097).
With the tools and supplies in your disaster kit (you do have one, don’t you?), such as duct tape, trash bags, plastic sheeting. You will be very lucky if you can find such supplies in stores after the event occurs.
Where Should You Go?
What About Major Damage?
How Do You Know What’s Going On?
Polk County recommends sheltering in place in our concrete block homes. If you don’t want to be by yourself, partner up with a friend. Do you have special needs (e.g., oxygen)? Have you registered with the county? They will come and transport you to an appropriate shelter ahead of time.
Can You Evacuate?
Not likely after the fact. Roads that are open will be jammed. Would you have enough gas?
What Can You Eat?
Only what is already in the house. Make sure your disaster kit 10

Solivita Summer: Watching Out for Bugs BY BRAD THOMPSON BRANCH MANAGER, FLORALAWN This month we officially enter summer, although it feels like the summer season started a month ago. That’s Florida! June brings with it our famous daily downpours, humidity as thick as pudding, and grass that grows right in front of your eyes. It also brings the launch of Floralawn’s chinch bug control program.
Summer Chinch Bug Management
Chinch bugs are tiny pests that inflict damage on turf grasses. At less than a quarter of an inch long, they don’t do much damage singly, but their power is in their numbers. As many as 200 chinch bugs can occupy one square foot of grass.
Be Careful of Bees (and Wasps)
While chinch bug controls fall under our responsibilities, we want to urge residents to keep an eye out for another couple of summer pests: bees and wasps. These insects range from mostly non-threatening (the mud-dauber who is fixated on building its dirt igloo) to quite aggressive (i.e., the yellow jacket). You may notice bees, wasps, and mud-daubers flying around your patios and courtyards. We encourage you to keep a can of wasp spray handy for these unwelcome visitors. While muddaubers don’t cause much harm, their mud nests leave stubborn stains when removed. Get rid of mud-dauber homes quickly and don’t allow them to grow. Mud-Dauber
These voracious eaters love St. Augustine grass, which is what grows throughout Solivita. They eat at the bottoms of the grass blades and suck the sap out of the blades, causing the grass to turn yellow and then brown as it dies. Chinch bugs have a well-earned reputation for being the secondmost-expensive plant-feeding arthropod in Florida. They cause millions of dollars of damage every year in the southeast U.S.
Yellow Jacket
Coffee Talk Date
Come for our Coffee Talk on Friday, June 24th in Mosaics. Any questions? Stop by our office in the admin building or call us at 863-225-9569.
This is why Floralawn is proactive and aggressive in implementing chinch bug controls in Solivita. We use a systemic application and diligently re-treat areas that need it. Since chinch bugs have developed resistance to systemic insecticides, we keep a careful watch on treated areas to make sure eradication is complete. For the next 8-10 weeks, in addition to our other tasks throughout the community, we’ll be carrying out chinch bug insecticide applications. REFLECTIONS | JUNE 2022
