Solivita Club Project Updates
BY SHERI WOLLSCHLAGER CLUB MANAGER
We are moving into my favorite time of year, not only because of the beautiful weather but for college basketball March Madness. I have no confidence that the Gators will be in the big tournament this year but love rooting for the Cinderella teams.
Over the last few months, I have been doing more spot checks in the Club facilities and have noticed that Club rules and regulations are not always being followed and in some cases these situations can lead to safety hazards. I was thinking that maybe this is happening because some may not be aware of the rules. This month’s article will provide friendly reminders to improve the experience for all Solivita residents and staff.
Resident Badges and Guest Passes
Our door readers detect those that use their resident badge to open doors. If you piggyback on someone else, we do not know that all of the people entering the facility are residents or their guests. The badge system is set up for the benefit of all of the residents, allowing use of facilities for only residents and their guests and not uninvited people from outside the community. We have also noticed that residents are giving their badges to guests so that they can avoid purchasing guest passes.
It is our job to monitor the facilities and follow the rules and regulations. ELM staff and Vital Security have stepped up spot checks and will be asking everyone who comes into the facilities to present a resident badge or guest pass.
At staffed facilities, we are able to check your driver’s license to verify that you are a resident, but prefer that you bring your ID as the process requires more time. At satellite pools and Club amenity areas, where we don’t have staff to verify your identity, you will be asked to present your ID badge or guest pass. If you do not have an ID or guest pass, you will be asked to leave the facility.
Friendly Reminder: You should have your resident badge or guest pass with you when you are using any of the Club facilities. If you don’t have the appropriate credentials, you will be asked to leave the facility. Please do not harass staff who are doing their job. Also, as a reminder, guest passes can be purchased at The Palms or Riviera Spa and Fitness. If you have misplaced
your resident badge, you can have a new badge made in the Membership office at a cost of $25. And, thank you to all of you who show your badge even before asked!
Bike Racks
I have noticed a lot of residents riding their bikes and we are all excited to see more people getting out and being active. We have bike racks throughout the Village, on the Chess Lawn side of the Riviera Spa & Fitness Center, and at both sides of the building at The Palms.
Friendly Reminder: For safety reasons and to protect your bikes, please park all bicycles in bike rack areas. Please do not park your bike at the entrance doors or under breezeways causing issues with ADA compliance and a possible hazard of a bike falling over.
Drying Off After Swimming
This is becoming a major safety issue, as many are not fully drying off after using the pool or showering and are entering the facilities leaving puddles and causing slip hazards.
Friendly Reminder: If you are entering the building for any reason, please dry off completely or spend a little more time in the beautiful Florida sun so that you don’t leave puddles on the

facility floors. Additionally, please do not sit on inside furniture in a wet bathing suit. If you are exiting the pool at The Palms, exit from the side gates to avoid walking wet through the lobby or fitness area.
Shirt and Shoes
I have noticed residents enjoying the Florida weather when in the Village and in the Club facilities not wearing a shirt or coverup and no shoes. When I was younger the saying was “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service”.
Friendly Reminder: Please wear a shirt or cover up and shoes when you are in any Club facilities. This includes when entering the building after enjoying the pool.
Eating or Drinking in the Spa and Pools
Our team has been battling this more lately, and it may just be because some aren’t aware of this rule.
Friendly Reminder: All food and beverage must be consumed at least 6 feet from the pool or spas. Additionally, NO alcohol can be brought into Club facilities.
Dog Park Rules
The dog park is my favorite stop on my spot checks. I love my 4-legged residents. I have noticed that not everyone is attentive, picking up after their dogs, ensuring that they are registered and wearing their dog tags and controlling the behavior of their dogs. I love all dogs, but I have seen a few aggressive dogs.
Friendly Reminder: It is the owner’s responsibility to watch and clean up after their dogs. Owners must have your dog fully vaccinated and registered with Solivita to use the dog park. You can register your dog in the Activities’ office. If your dog is aggressive at any time, it is the owner’s responsibility to take their dog out of the park right away.
Making Solivita a wonderful place for all takes not only the work of staff but cooperation from residents. We appreciate your help to make this happen, so we don’t have to be the “Bad Guys.” I hope that my article has been informative. Thank you and Happy March Madness.

Yard of the Month
Our judges scoured the Terra Vista neighborhood and found our latest winner at 57 Knollwood. Snowbirds
Charlene and Rob Luffman hail from Saskatchewan, Canada and are only here in the winter and cooler months. The Green Thumb of the family, Rob, has planted winter flowering bushes so they can enjoy color in their landscape. Congratulations Rob and Charlene! What a lovely yard. Where will the next Yard of the Month be? Stay tuned.
The newest, limited quantity items, are car sun shields and umbrellas for $15 each. Get them while they last! If there are specific Solivita merchandise items you’d like to see available, email me for consideration.

I’m Retired!
BY VICKIE KELLOGG MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR
I would like to announce my retirement as of February 3, 2023. I have enjoyed being a part of the RealManage/Evergreen family and assisting the Solivita Community and its residents for over nine years. I will miss working with you and will now have time to participate in more Solivita activities. I am looking forward to being able to do some traveling, spending time with my wine club friends, and just being lazy.
I am pleased to introduce Lisa Moses as my replacement. She has experience working with HOAs and in the property management field. This experience will be a great asset with her
working for you in Solivita. Lisa started working for RealManage Family of Brands | Evergreen Lifestyles Management and learning the Membership position only a few weeks ago. Please be patient as she navigates all the software and learns all the responsibilities involved with her position.
Thank you again to all my residents for working along with me and allowing me to assist you over the years. This is not a goodbye, but see you all around Solivita!

SPEED ENFORCEMENT
Community Concierge 863-427-7100
SDestefano@Evergreen-LM.com
The HOA, Security, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week from residents. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Check out the stats in previous months airing on Community Channel 732. Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results. A driver is six times more likely to have an accident when traveling at 25% above the posted speed limit. Speeding reduces the amount of time to avoid a crash and increases the severity of a crash once it occurs.

Saving Valuable Papers
BY BILL GROSS TEAM LEADER OF SOLIVITA CERT
In recent years, we’ve seen stronger and more frequent hurricanes and tropical storms hitting Florida. When the unthinkable happens and your house is severely damaged, what happens to all your valuable papers? Would they be usable or even readable? Everybody should keep all their valuable papers in a safe location within the house: in a desk drawer, in a box in the top shelf of your closet, or maybe even inside a fire safe. These are all good ideas, but what happens if a tornado (whether from a thunderstorm or hurricane) rips the roof off the house and that desk, box, or safe gets sucked out and strewn over the neighborhood, over blocks, or even miles? How do we recover from that?
First off, let’s list the kinds of papers we are talking about:
» Birth and Death Certificates
» Insurance Policies (house, car, life, medical)
» Bank, Credit Card, and Retirement Account information
» Health Records
» Bills and Loans
» Contact information for the above as well as family and friends
» Passports and Vaccination Records
» Photos of all rooms, furniture, valuables, etc. in the house and the exterior of your house (for insurance claim purposes)
least, have copies with you. However, here in Solivita, we have been informed by Emergency Management, that we will most likely be told to hunker-down in our block-built homes.
Other options are available to help preserve our important documents in addition to copies in zipper bags. Make electronic copies of your documents. If you don’t have access to a scanner, office supply stores have scanners that you can use at reasonable prices.
• Place those electronic copies on a “thumb drive” or “jump drive” and have them readily available if you do evacuate or just travel out of the path of the storms.
• Upload those electronic copies to file back-up services, such as Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, Amazon, and Dropbox, just to name a few. Basic storage is usually free, but if you need more storage, there will be a charge.
• Most banks and credit unions rent out safe deposit boxes. Depending on the institution and size, these can run from $20 to $300 annually. Check with your bank/credit union as you may need to have an account with that institution to rent a safe deposit box.
What can you do to preserve these documents? The easiest and probably the least expensive way is to make photocopies of these valuable papers, put them in resealable zipper bags, and put those bags in with your disaster kit. That way, if you do evacuate for a storm, either by mandate or choice, you will, at

March in Solivita
BY BRAD THOMPSON BRANCH MANAGER, FLORALAWN
In the cooler months when turf grass is dormant and shrub growth is less active, our Floralawn crews focus on landscaping tasks other than mowing and trimming. We enjoy the change of activity and temperature!
Our February and March Tasks
As mentioned in last month’s Reflections article, we started pruning the crape myrtle trees that grow throughout Solivita. This job takes us a full two months to complete, so you will continue to see Floralawn crews working on this task until the end of March. Residents always enjoy the splashes of fresh color around Solivita when our crews change the annuals in the common area beds. That spring task was completed in February. Also, last month we finished inspecting the community-wide irrigation system as well as repairing spray heads and correcting spray patterns.
suddenly and give you a surprise. Sometimes snakes will curl up inside planters and containers, so be alert. Don’t reach into a container without checking inside first.
Red on Black or Red on Yellow?
Most snakes around Solivita are not venomous, but it pays to be careful. Do be alert for coral snakes. They are colorful and striped: red, yellow, and black. The harmless Kingsnake looks similar, but its stripes are red, black, and yellow. “Red on black, safe for Jack. Red on yellow can kill a fellow.”
Questions? Call us at 863-225-9565, or stop by our office in the Admin building in downtown Solivita and talk to Adam.
Come to the March Coffee Talk
Please come to our Coffee Talk in Mosaics on Friday, March 31st at 9am. This is an informal time when I and other Floralawn team members meet in person with Solivita residents to talk about what we’re doing in the community. Everyone is welcome.
Training Classes Available for Residents
In the February Reflections article, we mentioned landscaping training classes that we occasionally offer Solivita residents. These classes cover a variety of topics. If you’re interested, please check our online calendar at SolivitaHOA.com for dates and subjects. You’ll need to log in to access the information.
Gardeners, Be on the Watch
March finds many of you Solivita resident gardening enthusiasts outside, enjoying working on plants around your houses or in your courtyards. Please keep an eye out for snakes. Common snakes around Solivita include the Black Racer and the Black Rat Snake. These are not venomous, but they can slither away
Enjoy our wonderful Florida spring weather!
