Time Flies When You’re Having Fun!

Believe it or not, on November 1st of this year, I will be celebrating 20 years of working in the Solivita Activities’ department. I started as an Activities’ Specialist and for the last eight years have been thrilled to be your Director of Activities. I have shared with many residents how blessed I have been to work in the most entertaining and creative outlet job with an incredible group of people, including an amazing and passionate Activities team and supportive managers and co-workers from all Solivita Club departments. I have worked with so many incredible, talented, hardworking volunteers and have had the pleasure of working with many of you on the Solivita Lifestyles Activities Committee. I am appreciative of the Solivita residents who have given my team and I the confidence to provide the most high quality, spectacular and memorable Activities program in all of Central Florida (from what I’ve been told).

Highlights of How Things Have Evolved Over the Years

» When I started working here, I worked for the creator/ builder/developer of Solivita, Avatar Properties Inc. All of the departments worked together as one team including the Welcome Center Sales, HOA, Club, Pro Shop and Golf Maintenance. Now we have transitioned to separate entities managed by different management companies.

» My first office was a in closet located in the Administration building where K&M Drugs is now located. In 2012, our Activities offices moved to the Bistro Café 2nd floor. This has allowed us to be much more efficient as we are closer to our event venues and our supply closets. This means less back and forth, hauling decorations, etc. And, we have much more space to work as a team. If you have been to the office prior to a big event, you know that we need our space.

» I’ve worked for and been mentored by the same manager, Sheri Wollschlager, for my entire career. She has guided me, but also has given me the “wings” to budget, implement, create, market, hire, and detail all aspects of each and every event you attend while I was moving up in my department. This has allowed me to gain the expertise and confidence I have today.

» The Activities Department used to create the Reflections newsletter and also managed the newsletter assembly before the Communications Department was created and before hiring a publisher to take over this extremely lengthy and time-consuming monthly publication.

» Our first events were Ice Cream Socials, un-themed Friday Night Dances and Music by the Riviera Spa & Fitness Center pool.

» Changing from ticket sales being printed on paper from our office and then sold manually in the Ballroom on the 1st business day of the month at 9am to now selling Activities events tickets online was a major transition and accomplishment. Prior to online ticket sales, residents would line up before 5am and wait until 10am to ensure they could obtain tickets to their desired event!

» Changing the Solivita Room Calendars to be visible to all residents so everyone can view availability and request a room more efficiently.

» Being a part of huge events such as the Guinness World

Record events (attempt of the largest Zumba group and making the longest ice cream sundae), the Solivita 10th and 21st Birthday Parties and the 20th Fall Arts and Crafts Festival. Though much preparation went into all of these events it was awesome to be a part of it and be able to host and execute them successfully.

» During the pandemic year of 2020, we pivoted to an extensive virtual Activities program and then progressed to offering unique events that were spread out, outdoors, or offered on a rotation of smaller groups of residents.

» Over the years, I have been recognized by the management companies here for outstanding workmanship and have won various category submissions submitted to the Florida Festival and Event Association Sunsational Awards.

» I have loved creating new events, along with the cooperation of my team, that offer either multiple price points (VIP/ EOSS/General, etc.), varied musical interest in one event (such with Battle of the Decades offering music from the ‘50s - today in multiple rooms), trending events (such as the Solivita Pub Crawl, Laser Light Show and Concert, Silent Dance Parties, Glow in the Dark Dance, etc.) and culturally influenced events for a diverse community (such as Oktoberfest, Carnivale and Lunar New Year, which is coming next year, and much more).

Solivita Lifestyles Activities Committee (SLAC) – VACANT SEATS

The SLAC committee is made up of seven actively involved Solivita residents who assist in advising the Activities Program with the Solivita Activities Team. SLAC members serve a two year term, meeting once a month for two hours. Meeting dates are set by the majority’s calendar and around Activities events, therefore there is no set day or time each month. At this time, four seats will be vacated in January. If you are interested in discussing, brainstorming and bouncing off ideas or thoughts relating to the Activities program, fill out the application form by scanning the QR code and scroll to the Documents section on the bottom of the webpage, pick it up from the Activities office or go to SolivitaHOA.com > Lifestyles > Activities > Committees and return it to the Activities office by November 11th.

SOLIVITA CLUB COMMITTEE (SCC) HAS TWO VACANT SEATS OPEN FOR 2025

The SCC is comprised of homeowners who advise and consult the management company on matters about the Solivita Club program and facilities. The Club program includes Activities, Fitness, Recreation, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Pools, all Amenity Rooms, and Resident Clubs. A liaison between the management company and the community, SCC serves to make recommendations and/or provide key information and materials to the management company by representing the sentiments of the community at large.

We are looking for two new committee members to fill spots vacated at the end of the year. If you are interested in being a part of this hard-working, dynamic committee, the deadline to apply is Friday, November 29th. After the deadline, the SCC will review all applications and set up interviews with potential new SCC members. The plan is to finish the interviews before our December meeting and invite the new members to attend and observe the process. New committee members will begin their two-year term in January 2025.

If you’re interested in applying, please scan the QR code or email the Club Manager at Sheri.Wollschlager@CastleGroup.com.

Save Your Valuable Papers

Welcome to November. We are almost done with hurricane season and the temperatures have become more bearable.

If a severe storm came through Solivita, the roof could be taken right off your house. If that happened, would your important papers be there afterwards? Would they be usable or readable? While no one expects these things, they could be a reality in Florida during hurricane season and year-round for tornadoes. The types of papers we are talking about include:

» Insurance policies (house, car, life, medical)

» Bank and retirement account information

» Health records (doctors)

» Bills (loans and account numbers)

» Contact information for above, as well as family and friends

» Credit cards and passports

» Computer account IDs and passwords (most of us have lots of these)

Solivita Flags Over 2025

RENEWALS

While you may think such paperwork would be right in your lower desk drawer where you left them, what if your desk isn’t even there? The stronger categories of both hurricanes and tornadoes can pick up large vehicles weighing much more than any piece of furniture.

What To Do?

Make copies of the important pages of these documents, put them in large zipper storage bags and take them with you (in your disaster kit). Also, photos of the interior of your home showing the furniture, shelves of books or collectibles as well as contents of your closets would be useful to establish a claim with your insurance company. This knowledge could make recovery from a major household disaster much less traumatic.

These recommendations are provided by your Solivita Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

The 2024 Flags Over Solivita Project is coming to an end. The final flag placement is set for Veterans Day. Thank you, Solivita, for all your support this past year. Flags over Solivita is now accepting credit card ONLY donations for 2025.

In December, paper applications will be available for residents wishing to donate using cash or checks. The applications will be an insert in December’s Reflections and also available at the Concierge Desk. Please email flagsoversolivita@gmail.com or call 863-512-3655 if you have any questions. You can also visit veteransclubofsolivita.com for more information and to donate. Scan the QR code for the 2025 donation form.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

6.29 Holiday Lights and Decorations. This provision applies to all holidays throughout the year. Holiday lights and decorations may be put up on homes within Solivita so long as the lights do not create a nuisance as set forth in the Declaration. Any lights and decorations for holidays are allowed between Friday, November 15th and Wednesday, January 15th.
