3. I don’t know how to purchase tickets online. Purchasing tickets online is a simple and easy process. You’ll need to have or register for an account on SolivitaHOA.com

All Activities events and Solivita University class tickets go on sale the first business day of the month before the event date. For example, October event tickets go on sale the first business day of September. The majority of our events do not sell out and those that do, typically do not sell out immediately. If an event is sold out, call or visit the Activities’ office to have your name added to a waitlist. In order to plan and order supplies, we start selling the month before.

As we start the fall season and snowbirds are returning, the Activities event calendar is in full swing with lots to offer! There are a few misconceptions that I hear when speaking with residents and I wanted to clarify them as I don’t want anyone to miss out on the fun. Here are the most common ones:

a. We post all the Activities events in the current month on a full page ad in the monthly Reflections newsletter, usually towards the front.

A limit of (4) four registered Solivita clubs will receive proceeds from the December 5, 2022 Holiday Show to donate to the club’s charity of choice. If your club is interested, scan the QR code to be directed to the RSVP questionnaire to be entered in the chance drawing. You may also go to SolivitaHOA.com, click on the Calendars & Maps icon

2. I can’t get tickets.

On the Home Page is a “Purchase Activities Events Tickets or Solivita University Classes HERE” button. There you will see a list of all Activities event tickets. You do not need to log-in to anything else again. We have a ‘Pay Later’ option if you prefer to pay by cash or check that is held up to 7 business days before the event. If you need to open a SolivitaHOA.com account, use Evergreen as the confidential first time password. If you would like a quick tutorial, stop by the Activities Department office, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, we’d love to show you.

Hope You’re Ready, it’s Going to be a Busy Few Months!

Our latest Yard of the Month is the lovely home of Bruce and Delia Tucci located at 314 Palo Alto Place. Bruce has a green thumb when it comes to making plants flourish in the harsh sub-tropical climate in Solivita. Their landscape includes some colorful varieties of crotons, ixora and other plants in a well-appointed semiprivate courtyard at the front of their home. A big shout out to Luis Velez from Evergreen for his prompt monthly moving of our sign, Brad Thompson from Floralawn for his photo skills, and our secret judges for their unbiased choices. Will your yard be next? Stay tuned. Happy Fall!

SPEED ENFORCEMENT

We turned off Solivita’s irrigation in late May since summertime brings us plenty of regular rainfall. Now that summer rains have tapered off, we’ll be turning on the irrigation system again. Watch out for the sprinklers.

Changes to Mowing Schedule and Irrigation

The first sign that an area of turf may have brown patch fungus disease is when it turns yellow. The yellow grass turns brown and spreads out in a circular shape. Sometimes a few green blades are visible in the middle of the patch.

prolonged periods, it becomes susceptible to this disease. Fall mornings with low fog, overcast days, and cool nights keep moisture on the grass and encourage the fungus.

Enjoy the cooler days!

My October Coffee Talk is set for the 28th at 9am in Mosaics. Come hang out with me for a little while; bring your questions.

Turfgrass growth will slow soon. We’re mowing weekly this month, but on October 30th, we’ll shift to the bi-weekly mowing schedule.

Toward the end of this month, we’ll begin pruning native grass clumps throughout Solivita. Fakahatchee grass in residential areas will also get pruned.

The fourth granular fertilizer application of the year is underway, as well as another community-wide herbicide treatment. The third sod replacement list and the third plant replacement list will be complete soon. (We do the replacement lists by zone. Don’t know what zone you’re in? Give us a call: 863-225-9565)

Monitoring Turf for Fall Fungus

The HOA, Security, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week and have been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results. A driver is six times more likely to have an accident when traveling 25% above the limit.

We watch Solivita’s turf grass closely for brown patch fungus because of the organism’s affinity for St. Augustine—the type of grass that grows throughout the whole community. (It also affects Bermuda, Bahia, Centipede, and other turfgrasses.) We treat it aggressively with fungicide.

October in Solivita

Last month, we officially said goodbye to summer and kicked off the fall. This month we’ll start enjoying some cooler days. At Solivita, our landscaping crews are still busy with maintenance duties and lawn care.
