YEP DREAMING BIG HERE! By Michelle Sukow

How do you feel about change? No, not the change in your pocket. The change that happens. The definition of change is to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone. We all know that change is inevitable. There is change that just happens with no regard to how we feel about it. And there is also change that we make for ourselves. I’ll admit that I love change. I will also admit that is a rarity. Would I prefer to be in the driver’s seat of that change? Heck yeah, but it does not always happen that way. However, I do my best to be the one in control of that change. These past two years, we have not been too much in control of what has happened. Those changes happened to be monumental, wouldn’t you say? We just had to figure it how to deal with it. We cannot always control what that change is going to be, but we can control how we respond to it. I tell my guys all the time, “Just wait 5 minutes. The phone will ring and the plan with change!” Am I not right?

Over the years, I have learned that you can either be the change maker or you must just go with what changes. In towing, we need more change makers! We can be the change needed for this industry or someone else will make the changes for us. That too is inevitable. A great example in this industry is the role women are making for themselves. We are not just answering phones and staying in the office anymore. There are strong women who want more. We are literally driving the change in this industry because more women are driving the trucks! More and more women are making the day-today decisions and owning their own companies. More

TOWING & RECOVERY Women of Towing

women are joining associations and are the driving force behind substantial changes we are seeing in this industry.

I want to continue to see everyone working towards positive and professional changes in this industry. We need to take control of our future. I do not want someone who has no clue about our industry to do it for us. How can we do that? Join your state associations. Join the Towing & Recovery Association of America (TRAA- the industries national association). You can join the WTRAA- Women of the Towing & Recovery Association of America.

How can you make a difference? Your membership is tow-fold. One, there is power in numbers. Two, it takes money to open opportunities. Get active! Get involved! Join a committee and work with others to make the change. The more people; the more that gets done. There are committees in all areas like education and legislation. Let’s be the change. Let’s make the changes we know we need. Get in the driver’s seat and take the control. So many good things happened for our industry because of the change maker in our associations. Let’s make 2022 even better.
