NOTES
- Welcome to this evening’s matchup between your Owens Express and the Jackson Jets. Tonight’s game will be posted on our YouTube page, which you can find by searching Owens Express Athletics, following the conclusion of the game. - Jackson enters tonight’s game with a 4-6 overall record. They are led by fourth year head coach Carl Thomas, who is a former Owens men’s basketball assistant. In fact, Owens made it to the NJCAAFinal Four in 2012-13 with Thomas on the staff. - Owens head coach Dennis Springs, meanwhile, will look to stay undefeated in his young tenure. A graduate of Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio, Springs is the first African American head coach in program history. - Thomas is 2-1 in three matchups against Owens. The lone win for the Express came on Dec. 17, 2014 with a 102-86 win on the road, while the Jets won 87-83 on Nov. 24, 2015 and 80-75 on Dec. 6, 2014. - La’Tre Lane, who played for Owens last year, is a sophomore on this year’s Jackson roster. He is averaging 2.2 points per game. - A trio of sophomore guards for Owens are among the nation’s leaders in three categories - Derrik Jamerson Jr., who has signed with NCAA D-I Norfolk State, is eighth in the nation in 3-point field goals made with 45, which he makes at a 48.4 percent clip; Ty’Rese Searles is 18th in the nation in FT percentage; and Roy Hatchett Jr. is second in the nation in assists at 8.5 per game. - To view the schedule and results, along with links to recaps, photo albums and videos this year, visit OwensExpress.com and select men’s basketball from the sport dropdown.
