all-time leader.
In the fall of 1975, Owens Community College began a women’s basketball program led by head coach Terri Marquette.
Then, in 1992, the college brought women’s basketball back and it has fluorished since.
Following Gomoluch’s departure, his assistant coach Mark Henry took over the program for the next two seasons before he tragically passed away in an automobile accident.
In 1978, Lisa Binkowski took over as head coach for the next four seasons until the program
In her first season, Renee Kudzia led the Express women’s basketball team to an OCCAC championship. In 1994-95, she led the Express to a 13-1 OCCAC record and another OCCAC title. After Kudzia didn’t experience success in the postseason, Bill Gomoluch took over in 1996 and led the Express to a 28-3 season, which was a 14 win improvement from the previous year. In his five seasons, Gomoluch never lost fewer than 23 games while leading the Express to two NJCAA D-II National Tournament appearances and one Region XII championship.

coach Michael Llanas took over. He has led the program to two OCCAC championships and three runner-up finishes in the Region XII tournament. In two of those three losses in the Region XII finals, Mott (2006-07) and Schoolcraft College (2009-10) went on to finish 3rd in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. Most importantly, Llanas is now the program’s all-time wins leader as he enters his ninth season.
There is an award that currently goes to an Express women’s basketball player each year called the Mark Henry Award. Henry’s assistant Matt Godfrey took over for Henry in 2003-04 and led the program to a 24-11 record, a Region XII championship, and a ninth place finish at the national tournament in his only year. EXPRESS ATHLETIC FUND
Why give to the Owens Express Athletic Fund? The mission of the Owens Express athletic program is to promote student success. We are proud to have established “A Winning Tradition” both on and off the playing field. Across our eight men’s and women’s athletic teams, we have set a standard for athletic and academic excellence which, over the course of nearly five decades, has resulted in 69 Academic All-Americans, 38 Athletic All-Americans, numerous conference championships and two national championships. Excellence, however, comes at a price. Despite significant public support from the College, the Owens Express athletic program needs regular, private support to ensure that our student-athletes continue to compete at the highest level as well as enjoy an educational environment that fosters achievement.
Giving Levels PLATINUM EXPRESS: $5,000 and up • Two invitations to the Owens Express End of Year Banquet • Lunch with Athletic Director Rudy Yovich and the Owens coach of your choice • Express Athletics sweatshirt • Recognition in all athletic programs and on the Owens Express website • Express Club window cling GOLD EXPRESS: $1,000 - $4,999 • Lunch with Athletic Director Rudy Yovich and the Owens coach of your choice • Express Athletics sweatshirt • Recognition in all athletic programs and on the Owens Express website • Express Club window cling SILVER EXPRESS: $500 - $999 • Express Athletics sweatshirt • Recognition in all athletic programs and on the Owens Express website • Express Club window cling BRONZE EXPRESS: $101 - $499 • Express Athletics T-shirt • Recognition in all athletic programs and on the Owens Express website • Express Club window cling EXPRESS: $25 - $100 • Recognition in all athletic programs and on the Owens Express website • Express Club window cling

Your support is needed to: • Fund athletic scholarships for those student-athletes who do not receive a College scholarship. • Raise funds for students to take advantage of preseason conditioning and training opportunities as well as to represent the College at regional and national tournaments. Currently, students must raise their own funds to help defray these expenses. • Pay for expenses not fully covered by the College, such as replacement of equipment and maintenance of playing fields. Please consider supporting the Owens Express Athletic Fund today. Your contribution will help build upon our winning tradition. We pledge to be faithful stewards of your money. Sincerely,
Rudy Yovich Rudy Yovich Director of Athletics
