The No. 3 Owens Community College women’s basketball team looks to stay undefeated in conference play while also looking for its 17th straight win overall, which would put them one short of tying the program record held by last year’s team and the 2009-10 team.

Express Notes Rise To Third: The Owens women’s basketball team jumped up two spots to No. 3 in the nation last week. They remained in the third spot after the today’s release of this week’s poll. Milestones: Sophomore forward Ashley Tunstall achieved 400 career rebounds with her 13 vs Sinclair. She now has 412 for her career. She reached 500 career points earlier this season. Another sophomore forward, LaKayra Carlisle, is 19 points and 11 rebounds away from 300 career points and rebounds. Going Streaking: Owens has won 16 straight since opening the season with a loss on the road against NJCAA Division I Wabash Valley. They are two away from tying the program record of 18 straight. They also enter today’s game with an eight game conference winning streak. They also have an 8 game regular season conference winning streak. The program record is 14. Finally, the team has won 37 straight games at home in the regular season, just five short of the program record.

Owens is 40-4 all-time against Cuyahoga since 1992-93 including postseason, which has seen the two teams split a pair of games. Owens have won 36 straight dating back to Cuyahoga’s last win on Jan. 20, 1996. The last time Owens lost to Cuyahoga at home was Jan. 15, 1994, which gives them a 19game home winning streak vs Cuyahoga. Owens head coach Mike Llanas is 18-0 vs Cuyahoga. Owens has swept Cuyahoga every year except 1995-96 and 1993-94. They split in 1995-96, while Cuyahoga won all three vs Owens in 1993-94, which included a postseason game.

Challenger Notes Hill Leads Duo In Double Figures: Keri Hill and Destini Turner lead Cuyahoga in scoring at 13.5 and 10.2 points per game respectively. Hill has averaged 15 points per game over the past two games, and she averages 7.8 rebounds per game, as well, this year. She is the only player to start every game for Cuyahoga this year. Road Warriors: Cuyahoga has only played three home games among their 10 total games so far this year. They are 0-3 in those games. Shooting Woes: Cuyahoga is averaging 53.2 points per game and shooting 35.6 percent from the field. They also average 26.6 percent from 3-point range and 56 percent from the foul line. Fabulous Freshmen: The top three scorers for Cuyahoga are all freshmen, including Hill, Turner and Tashanae Duncan (9.4 per game).
