GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE
Aja Nyquist General Manager aja@oxbowcc.comHello everyone, it finally is starting to feel like spring! This has been one of the longest, drawn out winters I can remember so let's hope summer lasts until December!
As you have probably heard we will be opening the course on Tuesday! We are excited for another busy golf season here at OCC. We also have some fun events this month including our Viva Las Ladies event, Mothers Day brunch, league kickoff, ladies night golf, the pool opening and much more. If you want to see everything that's coming up this month check out the app! If you don't have our mobile app I would suggest downloading it as it's the easiest way to see everything from your bill, reservations, upcoming events and more.
Staffing
We are in the process of hiring in all of our seasonal summer staffing, however most our seasonal staff consists of college students, high school students and teachers. With that, most aren't able to train in until the middle of May. We will do our best to have beverage cart service throughout the week/weekends with the hopes of opening up the shacks by the end of May. We will keep you posted daily/weekly on beverage cart hours.
Speaking of shacks, we are hoping to set some standard hours for them so you will know when they are open and it will be more consistent.
North Shack: 10am-8:30pm
South Shack: 11am-8:30pm
The closing times will adjust as the sunset does so expect those times to go to 9pm as we get into June. Please note on Mondays the opening times will be 12pm as the course opens at noon.
Monday Menu
This season we will be offering a limited menu (our lunchbox menu) on Mondays. This alleviates stress on our staff and typically Mondays are one of our slower days on the course. Don't worry there are still plenty of great options for you to enjoy!
Annual Meeting
Our annual meeting this year will be held on June 12th at 6pm. This meeting is open to all of our members (only stockholders are able to vote).
During this meeting, we will review the year that was 2022, and look at 2023 so far, as well as what we expect moving forward.
Preliminary Agenda:
Financial Review of Full Year 2022
2023 Membership Update and Financial Forecast
Capital Accounts Update
Departmental Updates
Update on Driving Range Land
2023 Membership Dues
Board of Directors Election
Membership
One last thing I wanted to touch on is membership. We are just starting to fill up spots on our waitlist for golf memberships, so if you have anyone considering membership please send them to Macy so she can get them added. We do still have social openings (at the moment) but we do anticipate those getting closer to full as well.
On that note, if you are thinking about dropping your membership please remember you must do so by June 30th, 2023. We obviously would like everyone to continue their membership but we understand time and circumstances do change. Please let us know as soon as you can if you do plan on ending your membership.
Have a great month everyone! As always if you have any thoughts, suggestions, etc., please don't hesitate to reach out. My door is always open. I look forward to seeing you out at the club!

StaceyFOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER UPDATE
Logan Winters-Helmbrecht Food and Beverage Manager logan@oxbowcc.comHello everyone!
I hope everyone has had a great April! I think it’s safe to say we are all ready for SPRING! Won’t be long now and the grass will turn a brighter shade of green, the trees will start budding, and the flowers will start blooming! It’s one of my favorite times of the year! Not to mention the kick-off of golf season!
April sure did fly past! It was a fun packed and exciting month! We sure have been busy worker bees, from kid’s night, trivia nights, little parties, and events here and there. I want to give a shout-out to everyone who came and enjoyed Easter Brunch, it was a huge success!
Coming up for the month of May, some things to look forward to; we have Viva Las Ladies on the 5th, which should be a GREAT girl’s night out! Mother’s Day Brunch is on the 14th, so make sure you get your reservations in! Make sure you stay tuned to Macy and the event guide for the info on what’s going on here at the club!
As summer/golf season approaches, we will be changing some of our menus with the arrival of the new season. If you have ideas or things you’d like to see on the course, or on the cocktail menu, let me know! I’d love the feedback!
Another thing to keep on your radar, with the new golf/summer season upon us, we will very soon start looking to fill our summer staff! That being said, if you know anyone who is looking for a great summer gig, please send them my way, or they can apply on our website! You will also start to see some new faces, as well as some familiar ones, as staff starts to return for the upcoming season. Don’t be afraid to say hello, and give them a warm Oxbow welcome!
With winter heading out, and spring on the horizon, I’m sure we will be out on the course golfing in no time!
Have a GREAT May! Can’t wait to see you enjoying your club! Cheers!
CHEF'S CORNER
Scott Motschenbacher Executive Chef chef@oxbowcc.comHello, Oxbow!
It’s finally May! Golf season is here once again. I, along with a lot of people was feeling a bit hopeless in April. Not any longer! Golf season is here, David and his crew are starting to drain the pool, and there’s a little more sunshine. We had our house committee meeting in late April to discuss menu changes. I was a little taken aback when some of the changes I wanted to implement were given the green light. I don’t want to go into a lot of detail, as I am not ready to field that many emails I’m hoping everyone approaches it with an open mind Myself, and my staff are fired up for some change! We hope to have this menu started mid-May.
Not only is the regular dining menu changing, so are the kids, and Lunchbox I believe the new changes will lead to a faster lunch service. I am still currently working on the grab-n-go menu as well. The plan for the pool is to offer a lot of grab-n-go options as well. I want to try pizza by the slice in the pool We tried it 3 years ago and it just never really took off The pizza recipe has been drastically changed since then, so I hope we have a little better luck this time.
Tacos!! I have really had tacos on my mind as of late. I want to up our taco game this year. For the past 5+ years we have been offering the same 2 for $5 tacos. They’re great and it is truly a great value. We can do better though. I’d like to introduce a tacos al pastor, and possibly a barbacoa. We have the people and the know how to execute it. With this and some of the other menu changes I am trying to pull us out of 2018 and get us into 2023 As always I want everyone’s feedback. Let me know if you love it, and especially if you hate it! I cannot fix a problem if I don’t know that it exists!
- Chef ScottCHEF SCOTT'S RECIPE OF THE MONTH: SALSA VERDE
Ingredients:
½ white onion fine diced
2 cloves garlic diced
1 poblano pepper fine diced
1 jalapeno fine diced
1 tablespoon cumin
1 tablespoon dried oregano
5 medium tomatillos
½ cup chicken stock
Salt to taste
Procedure:
In a saucepan add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and turn to medium-high heat. Add your onion, poblano, jalapeno, and garlic. Start to sweat these veggies, once they are soft add your chicken stock and remaining ingredients. Turn your heat to low and cover. Let this simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Once it has reached a nice salsa consistency cool it down in your refrigerator. After it is cooled enjoy it with chips or TACOS!! If you have any questions regarding this or any of the other recipes I have shared, please reach out.
GOLF SHOP UPDATE
Corey Herlickson Head Golf Professional corey@oxbowcc.comWith the opening of the golf course comes some reminders for you:
• Please check in with the golf shop before you go out to play. We track the rounds of golf being played for benchmarking. If you want to save time and you are in a large group, one person can come in and make us aware of who is playing.
• Please fill your divots with the sand and seed provided on our golf carts and repair you ball marks on the green. If you can, repair multiple ball marks just in case someone forgot to repair their ball mark.
• Extra sand and seed bottles are found at the food stations on the golf course if you run out.
• Please do not play on the golf course with our range balls. We switched over to a premium range ball in 2021 and we noticed a lot of them on the golf course and in the water on the golf course.
• Please leave the bunker rakes in the bunker with the handle out of the bunker.
• If you are older than 12 years of age, you must wear proper golf attire on the range and golf course. Please see the Golf Guide for specific details.
USGA Handicaps
Please post all of your scores. Regardless of the number of holes you play, you must post a score. If you do not finish your round whether it be nine holes or eighteen holes, you must post a score. Estimate what you would have made on the holes you didn’t play to get a complete score for your round. It is extremely important that we have handicap integrity with all members. With the number of golf tournaments we play at Oxbow, everyone should have a fair chance at competing.
We have a handicap committee which consists of members of the golf committee. Their job is to ensure handicaps are maintained properly. They review handicaps each month. If they find any issues, you will be approached by them about your handicap. They can make manual revisions to anyone’s handicap at any time. Each member gets a handicap with their membership so if you don’t have one set up at Oxbow CC, please see the golf shop so they can set it up for you.
Best of luck on attaining your golf goals this season!!!
NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY
avid Wood perintendent vid@oxbowcc.comThe golf course looks to have survived the winter well. The greens have started to break dormancy which is a good sign for their general health. We will be cleaning up excessive sand and debris with the first few mowings. Fairways and roughs have some minor snow mold infestation that is mostly cosmetic damage and will grow out of it.
Early spring openings normally result in some damage to the course due to a lack of plant growth. Traffic concentration in bottleneck areas by tees and green cart paths are the first areas of concern. We will be adding additional traffic control stakes to assist in varying patterns early in the season. When entering and exiting cart paths vary your route from previous cart traffic to reduce wear. With the heavily saturated soils please keep carts on the paths and out of native areas. Please do your part by filling divots and repairing ball marks this time of the year as the recuperation rate of grass is low. We will be opening the range tee on the mats to help save the tee until some growth has started. This is the same for nine tees, the cover will be on for several weeks.
Thank you to the members that volunteered their time to assist in the removal of the green covers. This year we were able to remove all 20 covers in 4 hours, the wind cooperated and everything went smoothly. Oxbow’s members again helped out when we needed, thank you.
See you on the course.
