The story of Dorelan

Dorelan's story is one of people, dreams and dedication.

It begins in 1968 when Diano Tura and Pietro Paolo Bergamaschi decide to leave their jobs and devote themselves to a more ambitious project: making superior quality mattresses. So, in a small garage in Forlì the first Dorelan products were born, made with all the taste and craftsmanship that have always distinguished Italian production.

From Forlì to the whole of Italy, and then the global market: constant growth, organic and patient. One step at a time, with a vision that prioritises quality, always. The founders obtain considerable investment in scientific research, technology and, above all, people.

Today Dorelan manufactures mattresses, toppers, pillows, bed bases and accessories, and also supplies the hotel industry, cruise companies and the world of sport.

With 450 employees and over 2000 sales points in Italy and abroad, the company increasingly looks overseas, with the solid, unwavering commitment to continue production in the place where Diano and Pietro Paolo's great dream began.

Today these values and the founders' mission are perpetuated by their children, who continue to work with tradition while embracing innovation. Dorelan's story is one of people, dreams and dedication.

Raw materials, technology and Italian design are the components which, when skilfully assembled, come together in the promise of better sleep.

Over time, our broad and flexible vision, which accommodates the changes of the future, has allowed us to go beyond mattress design and move into the construction of the entire bed system. It's a process of iteration that involves the whole system of rest: mattresses, beds, bases, slats, pillows and toppers, all developed to spread the culture of good sleep in people's lives while never abandoning the pillars of wellbeing: uniqueness and quality.

Our factory is the beating heart of everything we do at Dorelan.

More than 40,000 square metres, including 10,000 of warehouses, and over 2,000 items produced every day.

Our competitive advantage comes from our combination of five areas of expertise - five companies in one - wood, chemicals, mechanics, upholstery and assembly. This makes us unique, not only because we control every aspect of production, but also because of the synergy automatically created in the manufacture of an excellent product, every stage of which can dialogue with the previous and subsequent stages.

At our factory we work with carefully selected raw materials to make all the components of mattresses, bases, pillows and beds.

Both Myform material and every individual spring are produced at our headquarters, and this allows us to have total control at every stage of product development. The result is maximum uniformity, precision and performance.

First and foremost, we have worked in this sector for over 60 years, evaluating every aspect of product improvement and manufacturing techniques, allowing us to develop an artisan sensibility that means our production processes use materials selected personally by us, and guarantee high standards of quality and durability.

Second, and equally important, is the passion of our workers, who have been doing the job for years with dedication and attention to detail.

All-round sustainability

Dorelan's commitment to the environment

All our products are developed with respect for the environment, a central pillar of the company's mission. Today this work ethic remains a constant in our respect for our workers and customers. At Dorelan the careful use of resources is measurable, not based on pretty words and good intentions.

Energy

We have always been extremely attentive and sensitive to environmental issues. Over the years we have implemented various initiatives and internal processes to reduce our environmental impact. First of all through the use of renewable or certified green energy (solar, wind or hydroelectric). In addition to meeting the factory's energy needs, our photovoltaic system allows us to input clean, renewable surplus energy into the grid, thus further contributing to the community around us.

Since 2021, we have refurbished the lighting system in our production area, replacing all fluorescent lamps with new LED appliances. The aim is to reduce electricity consumption and costs, as well as reducing the need for maintenance. Every year this prevents the emission of 57.5 tonnes of CO2, the equivalent of 2880 trees.

Water

Water is not used in our production processes. But we've gone further: to discourage the use of plastic, we've installed two drinking fountains delivering fresh filtered water free of charge for all our staff. Once a year the water in our storage tanks and drainage system is analysed, to guarantee the standard of water discharged into the public sewer system.

Rainwater is collected and stored for watering our green spaces.

At Dorelan we're firm believers in the importance of wellbeing, in all forms and settings. We work hard to spread the culture of sleep, but also wellbeing in a far broader sense.

Our company involves not only our people, but also the surrounding area, connecting with schools, institutions and social enterprises. To this end we place great importance on projects that strengthen connections and create opportunities thanks to inclusive choices that engage young people, students and workers.

Dorelan supports ambitious and synergistic projects like I’m a Dreamer, an exemplary scheme that began in 2017 and involves young fashion students from the Istituto Tecnico Saffi-Alberti in Forlì, who have created models and prototypes for the SOGNO_ RICICLO_CREO line for CavaRei, an integrated organisation that supports people with disbilities by developing their employment skills. Dorelan contributes by providing surplus textiles and other materials free of charge; these are used to produce unique, ethical and sustainable products.

In addition to an appropriate training scheme, we have internally developed a series of team-building initiatives in order to strengthen both a sense of belonging and internal collaboration, involving workers from their very first day with the company. With this in mind, our in-house team has designed a Welcome Kit for new employees. Thanks to the reuse and recycling of production materials and the creativity and manual skills of the people at CavaRei, every individual can immediately begin to feel part of the Dorelan world and its philosophy.

We regularly assess the health of our organisation and the happiness of our employees by means of a specially designed survey. Over 50% of our staff took part in the most recent edition.

To improve our employees' quality of life, we organise team-building activities in which there are plenty of opportunities to spread the word about the importance of sleep.

Adaptive spring system

Adaptive is a system with three independent types of pocketed springs with different degrees of rigidity. Adaptive springs vary in terms of the gauge of the wire, which provides different levels of support. The three types of spring are arranged in an innovative pattern inside the mattress to create areas of varying rigidity which maintain a constant reaction to the different pressure of the body on the mattress. To facilitate getting onto and off the mattress, the perimeter contains more rigid springs.

Twin spring system

LFK spring system

An interconnected system consisting of cylindrical springs that ensure excellent support, great elasticity and - thanks to their compact sizeergonomically accurate reactivity wherever the body is in contact with the mattress. The springs are solid and resistent, and connected to each other by spirals running transversely through the mattress. The connection system joining the springs makes the whole mattress robust and durable.

The interconnected Bonnel springs are hourglassshaped and undergo a special treatment to ensure excellent rigidity and long life. The Mite mattress protector and pillowcase offer exceptional protection for anyone with an allergy to mites. Made of elasticated polyester microfibre, they undergo a treatment that prevents the proliferation of mites, preserving the hygiene and breathability of the bed and bedding.

Emme

The Emme mattress protector and pillowcase are made in 100% sanforised cotton, making them cool, breathable and extremely resistant to washing. The mattress protector features elastic corner tapes which allow easy and stable positioning on the mattress, while the pillowcase has zip closure.

Low version recommended for mattresses with height from 20 to 25 cm, High version for mattresses with height from 26 to 31 cm.

Seal

The mattress protector and pillowcase are made in a double layer of Tencel, waterproofed by means of a special process. The result is two soft, cool products with excellent breathability and hygroscopic capacity, which can protect the mattress and pillow from any external element, and can be machine washed at very high temperatures, up to 90°C.

We are the first Italian bedding company to obtain hygiene certification, which guarantees excellent hygiene conditions at every stage of the manufacture of mattresses, pillows and bed bases, from the sourcing of raw materials to the production and transformation processes, packaging, shipping and delivery.

Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® is an independent control and certification system for the textile industry. It ensures that certified products are extremely safe for both humans and the environment.

By their nature, our products are subject to highly rigorous and stringent checks, categorised as Class 1 (the same category as items for babies and children under 3), since their contact with the skin is very intense. The criteria for human and environmental safety are therefore extremely strict.

Medical Device CE (EU) Regulation

2017/745 as amended

Our products certified by the EC as medical devices pursuant to European Regulation 2017/745 (MDR) comply with the applicable safety and performance criteria. Our products have been tested and are compliant with the stipulations of European harmonised standards.

All our medical devices are registered in the “Database of medical devices” of the Italian Ministry of Health, pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 21/12/2009.
