Who is the Oxfordshire Mind Wellbeing Service for? 1 in 4 of us in Oxfordshire will have a mental health problem at some point in our lives. The Mind Wellbeing Service provides vital support, advice and information. For everyone. The Wellbeing Service is open to anyone over 16 in need of support. You do not need a referral and the service is free of charge.

How can the Wellbeing Service help me? We offer support through 4 elements of the service: Information and Options - if you’re in need of support and information, or you’re not sure where to turn to get help, we can give you the facts and the contacts you need at our county-wide sessions. Information and Options is a good place to start if you’re new to the service. Short Courses - provide you with tools to look after your mental wellbeing, and skills to help you get the most out of life. There is a wide range of courses on offer, categorised by either arts and culture, coping skills, keeping well, physical health, practical skills or severe & enduring mental health problems. Peer Support Groups - a safe, welcoming space to share activities, issues or thoughts and to meet people who may have experienced similar issues. Groups may be specifically for men, women, parents, young people, people with shared beliefs, ethnicity or sexuality, they may be geographically based, or they may focus around an activity such as art, sports, music, walking, cooking etc. Recovery Planning - make an appointment with a member of staff to talk through your personal goals and how to reach them. Services are divided up in to three areas of Oxfordshire. The services in each area, or locality, are run by a different team. All of the service information in this booklet is organised by locality.

Where can I access the Wellbeing Service? Oxford City Covers Oxford itself. with most services mainly run from out premises in East Oxford and Cowley. Cherwell and West Oxfordshire Covers Witney, Bicester, Banbury, Chipping Norton, Carterton, Kidlington and surrounding areas. Frequently Asked Questions I just want to know what time my local service is open! How do I find this out? We know our service is complex, this is because it is designed for lots of different people with different needs. If you want to know when during the week you can use your nearest service, and are finding this booklet difficult to navigate, go a long to an Information and Options session or phone us on 01865 247788 and a worker will provide a personalised timetable to suit you.

Why have the course categories changed? We’ve re-named a few of the previous categories, as the courses had outgrown these and we hope that the newly named categories are more straightforward and make it easier to find what you are looking for. We have also introduced a new set of courses called ‘Coping Skills’, more details about the Coping Skills courses are on the back page of this booklet.

Why aren’t there courses running in every category? There may not be courses running in all categories all the time but keep in touch and join our mailing list to receive updates on upcoming courses.

I’d like a bespoke course to be run for my organisation/group/team/club. Can you do this? Yes! We can provide a range of courses to suit your needs, we plan our programmes many months in advance so contact us early to avoid disappointment. Contact Jade Sullivan on 01865 263744 or email jade.sullivan@oxfordshire-mind.org.uk for details.

I like the look of one of these courses, but it’s not at a convenient time or place for me. What can I do? Ask to be added to our mailing l list, give us a call or check our website! We may be running an additional course that was planned after this programme was printed. Plus, if you tell us what you want, and other people want it too, we’ll do our best to respond to the demand.

My local Mind service used to be open for more hours in the week. Why has the number of hours been reduced? We’ve expanded our service to reach more geographical areas. For example, we now run services in Faringdon, Nuneham Courtney and Goring where we previously did not run any services at all. Unfortunately this has meant we’ve had to reduce the service offered in some other areas. If you are looking for more support during the week, please call our Information Line on 01865 247788 to discuss what options are available to you, or talk to the Mind staff at your local service.

Got another question? Please give our Information Line a call on 01865 247788 11

Information from Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

About Us Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of community-focused health and social care services to people across five localities from Buckingham down to Bath. In Oxfordshire we provide community health services such as district nursing, physiotherapy and podiatry and we run eight community hospitals. We provide mental health services in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, as well as some mental health specialist services for Wiltshire, Bath, North East Somerset and Wales. As a Foundation Trust we want to ensure we provide caring, safe and excellent services and the support of our members helps us to do this. Becoming a Member Your experience of local health services is invaluable in helping us to improve them in the future. You may have a personal experience of one of our services, know or care for someone else who does, or you may simply have an interest in the development of health services locally. If so we would like you to be involved in the way our services are developed. You can choose to be an active member who gets involved in activities with the Trust. If you would rather support the Trust you can choose the supporter option. This means we will only contact you once a year about elections. Benefits of Membership • You can show your support to local NHS services by being a Foundation Trust Member in the ‘supporter’ category • If you want to be more involved, tick the ‘active member’ section and we will invite you to events, send you our latest news and let you know about other ways you can get involved with the Trust • You can access a wide range of NHS discounts that are normally only available to staff • You can share your views and opinions about our services to help us to improve them. We don’t expect you always to agree with us or share our views. We really want to know what you think we do well and what we could do better • You can vote for a Governor to represent you on our Members’ Council or you can stand to be a Governor yourself when we have a vacancy Things you need to know about membership • It is free to be a member. There are no costs or charges associated with your membership • Your care or treatment will not be affected. The person treating you won’t know if you are a Member or not • We have to contact you once a year about the Governor elections but if you choose to be a supporter we won’t contact you any other time • You can ensure your name and your membership category remain private by ticking the relevant box on the membership form How to Join There is a Membership form in this leaflet which is free to post back to us. Alternatively you can sign up on line via our website at www.oxfordhealth.nhs.uk If you’d like to find out more first, please email us at ft.community@oxfordhealth.nhs.uk phone 01865 738536, or visit our website www.oxfordhealth.nhs.uk which has a lot of information about what we do.

Coping Skills Courses A new programme of short courses See pages 4 - 11 of this booklet for current dates. ;

Assertiveness A look at what it is to be assertive, providing us with the skills to practise assertiveness techniques. We will look at the four different ways of behaving, be able to identify circumstances where we could be more assertive and learn about some techniques.

Managing Stress A course designed to give us the skills and tools needed to better manage stress and promote good mental health and wellbeing. Each week covers a different topic including how we manage the stresses of everyday life, managing worry, challenging our thoughts, comfort zones and recognising our own self worth.

Mindful Way of Living Often in life we can get caught up in “doing” rather than “being”, the course looks at techniques that we can use to step out of automatic pilot, become more aware and take notice of our experiences. These skills can help us to better cope with stressful experiences and to adopt a more mindful way of living.

Self Esteem This course will look at what self esteem is, how it is affected and will provide us with the skills and techniques we need to boost our confidence and self esteem.
