Silica Gel Breather for transformer
Silica Gel Breather is used to dehydrate the air and remove dust particles of the air breathed in by the transformer and make sure that the air entering into the transformer is free from moisture and dust particles. Silica gel breathers are filled with Blue Silica gel (Indicating Type) which has the moisture absorption capacity and signals the saturation degree by changing its color. Transparent portion of the breather is used to check Silica gel color. Clear View Oil Cup filters the dust particles and allow them to settle in the oil and hence only dry air is breathed in by the transformer.
BREATHING PROCESS OF TRANSFORMER: In transformer sole function of silica gel is to absorb moisture and it may also be called as self-indicating silica gel it it’s so called because as it absorb moisture silica gel color changes from deep blue to light blue to pink color. Pink colors indicate the silica gel has been saturated and it has to be reactivated or replaced. If the breathing action is not satisfactory at that time check choking such as filter in oil pot If the color of silica gel became to pink from blue (or became to dark green from orange) from upper side check air leaks and fix it up. If the oil color in oil pot blackened, replace with new oil.
TYPES OF BREATHER BODY Clear View Breather: Made of Polycarbonate body which enables us to know the color changing process of Blue Silica gel inside, after absorption so as to change with new silica gel inside, type with Aluminum & ABS die cast top & bottom caps with Transparent Acrylic or Polycarbonate tube body Silica Gel container of different diameter & height depends upon the Silica Gel filling capacity. Available in different end connections of Thread & flange type as per client’s specification and requirement. Aluminum Body Breather: It has a aluminum body with a window to show the Oil level inside, it is fitted with Aluminum Die-Cast top & bottom caps with aluminum body Silica gel container of different diameter & height depending upon the Silica Gel filling capacity. Available in different end connections Thread & flange type as per client’s specification and requirements.
OPERATION & WORKING OF SILICA GEL BREATHER The indicating grade of Silica Gel, which is filled in the breather, is hard blue crystals, which has considerable absorption power for moisture. Silica Gel absorbs moisture signaling the saturation degree by changing color as follows. DEEP BLUE Silica Gel completely dry LIGHT BLUE Silica Gel partly humid. (Absorbed water for about 15% of its weight)
PINK Silica Gel saturated with moisture. (Absorbed water for about 30 - 40% of its weight)
