A-Gadda-Da-Vida Design Studio 8 awarded WithHonors Unit Soriano Spring 2022 /ETSAM We nd ourselves in a post-war scenario: local authorities seek new models of economic and social development to maximize the - few re sources available and create poles of attraction. Three diverse programs are introduced in a disused soviet structure: the Autobus Park Number 7. They must coexist in the same habitat, share resources, minimize the carbon footprint, and generate a exible design that will adapt to future needs and programs, creating a pioneering model on the international scene. The abandoned plot is now transformed into a large green area, a programmatic condenser: a garden of Eden.

The non-museum is a container-exhibitor space for artistic waste and decontextualized contemporary works. Richard Serra’s works of art are completely decontextualised, located onto an entirely new articial topography. Because of their ephemeral condition, they acquire a larger capacity to transform into spaces themselves. Thus, the plot is not only a conventional green area, it also acts as an artistic disposal warehouse that offers the user a unique vision of sculptural art. The destruction of Kyivs’ traditional zoos offers the opportunity to rebuild these animal exhibition spaces applying more contemporary techniques and concepts. The animals are grouped according to their environmental conditions, creating different biotopes. These biotopes are composed of three elements: the environment, the ora and the abiotic factors (light, humidity and temperature). Therefore, two operations are performed to generate the different atmospheres. First, each climate’s characteristic vegetation is introduced. On the other hand, the optimal environmental conditions are replicated trough a complex façade system. Once the zoos are repaired, the Sanctuary’s second phase begins. Endangered species that can only be kept in articial conditions are introduced. Digital nomadism has become one of the most desired ways of life for 21st century entrepreneurs. This new lifestyle is based on low-cost energy consumption and encourages the appearance of leisure-produc tion-habitat spaces. The aim is to create work atmospheres in relaxed and unique environments that actively encourage contact with other users. These environments are conditioned by the animal biotopes, leading to unique spaces in terms of light, humidity, temperature, and vegetation, where diverse activities can be developed. Autobus Park Number 7 becomes a programmatic condenser, an attractor for activities of various kinds and with the capacity to create new spaces and permanently vary their nature. A place where humans, animals and orphaned works of art coexist surrounded by nature.

Hikikomori Design Studio 7 awarded WithHonors Unit Ramos Autumn 2021 /ETSAM Mayeld is a 9 hectares urban void equipped with two elements: an abandoned train station and the unattended Medlock River.
personal portfolio
The collaborative proposal is linked to both components by two radical interventions. The rst one: the river’s renaturation through a controlled ood, creating articial islands and inserting local vegetation. The second one: the abandoned structure’s rehabilitation. A logistic centre that allows the sustainable supply to Manchester historic centre is pro posed. The former train station roof is now a great surface that collects the pedestrian ows. It also allows, through the equipped walkways, the access to the proposed habitats, each of them linked to one of the collaborative interventions. How would a perfectly supplied habitat look like? Where does an isolation-seeking person live? The project development is based on an investigation regarding these questions. The habitat for an isolated person in a globalised society, the so-called hikikomori. People who run from social interaction and embrace a virtual life powered by the new technologies. They need a logistic infrastructure that permits the total supply and a spatial order that allows social isolation. Therefore, it is a habitat linked to the logistic centre. The tower is conceived as a minimum dimension and logistically - equi pped habitat machine. The automatised industrial shelves, the walkways and the isolation capsules are all connected through a helical ramps sand conveyors system. A bridge crane embeds the isolation capsules to this technological structure. The access to these living spaces is accomplished by - an indi vidual lifts system. Once inside, a multi-positional device waits for the hikikomori to never separate again. All necessary action is conducted without the need to move, thanks to rail system that allows the device movement. The hermit no longer seeks loneliness and isolation in nature, as it always has been. On the contrary, inuenced by the new technologies, the hermit prefers to isolate himself within the city. Living insulated yet surrounded by people.
