CELEBRATING EARTH Green Team Urges Everyone to Do Their Small Part to Make a Big Difference Celebrating Earth Day’s 50th Anniversary In the midst of social distancing and staying at home to slow the spread of COVID-19, it’s more important than ever to do our part to reduce, reuse, and recycle. In June of 2018, P1 Connection brought you a story about the recycling efforts of P1 Group and one of the program’s biggest champions, Manpower Coordinator Emily Barber. A lot has changed since then. P1 Group has continued to reduce our carbon footprint with initiatives to eliminate waste. And what better time than the 50th anniversary of Earth Day (April 22) to look at what we’ve done...and what we can still do. In addition to robust recycling efforts in all office spaces and the fabrication shop, P1 recently provided all associates with personalized tumblers to eliminate the use of Styrofoam and disposable drinkware. Additional “guest” mugs were purchased to extend this initiative to those visiting P1. In 2020, a new Green Team kicked off their official committee. Each person on the team is passionate about putting green efforts into practice, as well as educating others about how they can do the same. The new Green Team is currently six strong, but anyone who is interested is encouraged to join. The Green Team will be looking to get rid of even more one-time use disposable items, as well as placing more recycling bins and signage around our locations. Stay tuned throughout the year to learn more about how you can help P1 Group get greener. (continued)
“It’s nice to come together with other associates I may not normally interact with who have the same passion I do, and help share the right information with all P1 associates so we can continue to improve our efforts.” – Emily Barber

“As a company, we create a lot of trash. Our goal is to educate people that it’s not so hard to recycle – you can do small things that add up to make a big difference.” – Beth Martens
“We only have one Earth. We should do everything we can to maintain it.” – Tiffany Oldham
Your One Thing One small gesture, by many, makes a huge difference. Here are some tips from the Green Team on what you can do at work and beyond. 1. Stop using plastic grocery bags. Bring your own bag to the store. 2. Bring your own reuseable plates and utensils to keep in your desk at work for meals. 3. Be mindful of what you purchase, the packaging, and how it’s being used/disposed of.
4. Simply get in the habit of recycling appropriate items (especially at work, where the bins are available to you). 5. Read the signs above P1 recycle bins about what can and can’t be recycled so you aren’t contaminating bins with food waste and products that aren’t recyclable.

COVID-19: Need Financial Help?
Working Families’ Friend May Be a Resource
In light of the unprecedented disruption caused for many by the Coronavirus, there are resources that may be able to help.* In the August, 2019 issue of P1 Connection, we brought you the story of Working Families’ Friend (WFF), a local non-profit organization specifically created to assist working or recently unemployed individuals and their families who are not destitute, cannot qualify for assistance through traditional emergency programs, and have a one-time need for assistance. If you think you might qualify for help from Working Families’ Friend, please apply through HR. Here is what everyone should know about the process. • If an employee goes to a supervisor or accounting with monetary concerns, they should be directed to a P1 Counselor/Representative, which would be anyone in the Human Resources department. • To be eligible, the employee must be currently employed by P1, experiencing an unexpected crisis or emergency, have depleted personal savings and resources, have never needed to ask for help before, and doesn’t qualify for help by other social service agencies. HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK? • HR and the employee fill out a P1-WFF Referral Discussion sheet. Work with HR to obtain the necessary paperwork. • The employee must provide documentation of the financial hardship and the amount being requested. Examples are a significantly overdue bill, shut-off notice and the amount overdue, eviction notice and the amount overdue, a vehicle repossession notice and the amount overdue, foreclosure notice and the amount overdue. • If it is an approved monetary need, HR will submit the information to WFF. WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM APPROVED? • WFF usually gets the check mailed the same day they receive the request. • WFF will mail the check back to P1 Group along with a referral letter for the employee. • Most referrals are $500 or less, but in some cases may go up to $1000. • If there is a shutoff notice or eviction, WFF will call and deal directly with the utilities/rent/ mortgage lender to make a promise to pay, and send the check directly to the company. If you are interested in taking advantage of WFF, please contact your supervisor or HR at 913-275-5694, p1newhire@p1group.com. Click here to learn more about Working Families’ Friend. *WFF aid is not guaranteed – associates must go through the application process with HR; funding may be limited and not all applicants will qualify.

P1 Group’s Quick Response Helps Customer in Wake of Disaster
On an October morning in 2019, P1 Group received an urgent call from the owners of the I-44 Cold Storage in Springfield Mo. I-44 cold storage is a storage facility for restaurant supply and custom cold storage that houses a 10,000 sq. foot freezer, 10,000 sq. foot cooler space, and 30,000 sq. foot of dry storage space.
“Initially they were going to bring in a pumper truck from Airgas to pump out the remaining ammonia left in the system, but we were able to mobilize our own equipment that day and pump the ammonia into our storage tanks for future use, leading to considerable savings to the customer,” Brad explained.
During the night, winds of up to 90 mph had whipped through the area and caused significant damage to the building. The roof of the cooler and part of the freezer were completely blown off, including the majority of the ammonia piping, causing a considerable amount of ammonia leakage.
After the initial threat was contained, Brad, Michael and Project Manager Brandon Holladay assessed the damage and started aligning subcontractors and building estimates for repairs. They were able to negotiate this with no competition due to our immediate response.
“P1 has been supporting I-44 Cold Storage’s emergency and routine service needs for the past year,” Brad Fredrickson, Assistant Service Manager/Ammonia Division, said. “So when the owners reached out to us that morning, we were ready to quickly assemble a team and we were on site before noon. The emergency response team consisted of: • Michael Schram, Industrial Mechanical Specialist • Mitch Stuerke, Ammonia Service Technician • Cody Dunkel, Ammonia Service Technician – Wichita • Clint Welch, Fitter Foreman
4
In addition to the response and project teams, Brad also notes that Local 178 Pipefitters and I-44 Cold Storage Business Manager, Justin McCarty, have been tremendous partners in this effort. An unpredictable storm may have caused a very hazardous situation, but P1 Group’s ability to react quickly and alleviate a huge problem was just what the customer needed. This level of preparedness and responsiveness in even the most challenging situations is the reason P1 Group continues to create customers for life.
• Brad Fredrickson, Assistant Service Manager-Ammonia
• Ray Hansuld, Warehouse Driver, Lenexa
The original project was to replace all of the piping that had been compromised, roughly 800 feet, along with new large evaporators and a new Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system with remote capabilities. Since that time, additional damage was discovered and the scope of work has been amended.

SHOPPING ONLINE IS MORE POPULAR THAN EVER RIGHT NOW CHECK OUT THE NEW AND IMPROVED COMPANY STORE
Let’s face it, when we rolled out the Company Store about a year ago, there were some…issues. Unfortunately, using the same platform as the Safety Incentive Store caused some confusion for users.
SO WE FIXED IT.
The new P1 Group Company Store has been moved to a completely different platform and even offers a few new apparel items to choose from.
WHAT THE COMPANY STORE IS… • Limited supply of P1-logo apparel and hard goods for associates who want to purchase one-off items (like, “hey, I would like a P1 hoodie for myself or a friend.”) You may also purchase items in bulk from the store for holidays, customers, etc. • A place where individual associates can easily buy using a credit card or PO# (no job numbers or cost codes will be accepted).
WHAT THE COMPANY STORE IS NOT… • NOT to be confused with the Safety Incentive store. This is a totally different thing on a totally different platform. • NOT to be confused with 4Imprint or other large promotional item stores. The company store has limited items, primarily apparel, hats, and a few hard goods like Yetis and backpacks. If you need assistance on ordering promo items, contact Marketing.
The store has a NEW FEATURE this time that lets you explore many catalog items if you aren’t finding what you’re looking for directly on the store. Just click “NOT FINDING WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR” in the top navigation. AND FINALLY, the old company store link - https://p1store.irisnow.com - is dead, so don’t go there anymore, and remove it from your bookmark list. GET YOUR ACCOUNT SET UP TODAY. Bookmark https://p1group.mybrightsites.com/ and start shopping!

Forging her own Path to Success: Associate Profile on Heather Richards-St. Clair Not so long ago, Heather Richards-St. Clair headed off to University of Central Missouri (UCM) with the dream of becoming a reporter and traveling the world. But when graduation came on the heels of a huge economic recession, she found herself following a different path. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, she looked for what was available and was able to secure a position with a maintenance management company selling commercial janitorial and minimum maintenance service. She discovered that studying journalism had actually prepared her for sales by teaching her the art of communication, how to conduct an interview, and how to get the most out a conversation when she had the opportunity. While quoting a janitorial service opportunity for the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts , she met the facilities maintenance manager, who told her about a company called P1 Group that was hiring some people for sales. “Since I wasn’t super happy with my current situation, I went and

interviewed and I’ve been working at P1 Group since 2012,” Heather said. At that same time, P1 Group was opening up an office in St. Joe and, at 26 years old, Heather became the PM Sales Consultant for that branch. It turns out Heather has a real knack for the work, and her sales performance steadily increased over the first five years. In 2017 she broke the record for PM sales. In 2018, she was promoted to General Manager of the St. Joseph Branch, much to her own surprise. “It came out of left field. There were some transitions in progress. Smitty had started coming up to St. Joe quite a bit and he approached me with the opportunity,” she said. “I remember exactly what he said: ‘You know the people and the customers, and you have the right attitude. I can teach you the rest’.” In addition to Smitty, Heather says she owes a great deal of her indoctrination to Vice President Mitch Campbell. “Mitch worked with me for months, teaching me the technical side of

appropriately so she could make money and beat the competition.
She and a friend started H&M painting and contracted to paint residential new construction and remodels.
“I liked working for the contractors more than I liked going to class. I probably should have taken that as a hint about my future career,” Heather said.
She met a contractor that taught her a lot about technique and how to save time while also doing a good job. She taught herself how to quote the work

Now, the work Heather does at P1 Group seems to have come full circle!
the business. He has a great demeanor and he is a great teacher. The time he invested in me has been invaluable,” she said.
While being a female in this roll can sometimes be a challenge, Heather says the greater challenge is being young.
“In sales, I was spending my time developing solutions for an external customer,” Heather explained.
“Because of my lack of experience, having the confidence in my ability to make tougher decisions and trusting myself in those decisions has been difficult.”
“Now, I develop solutions for the internal customer and I like that. In addition to learning the financial part, I am learning what makes everyone tick and how to keep the team engaged and moving in the same direction.” She says she really does enjoy the operations side of our business as well. “Now I am understanding how everything really works and how important the sales role is to the organization,” she said. “Seeing how all the little pieces of the business fit together has been my favorite part.”
But Heather has been able to do it, thanks to the mentorship and support of her fellow P1 colleagues. “Through the course of my life, I’ve always been lucky enough to have someone take me under their wing and show me the ropes and I have been able to run with it, Heather said. “Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to do that for someone else someday.”
A Family on the Go When not working, Heather enjoys almost anything outdoors, mainly camping and fishing, bonfires, and scuba diving. She said these activities have helped her fit in with all the guys at the St. Joe branch. She loves making them jealous when she’s able to show off a big stringer full of fish. Heather is recently married and now has two wonderful stepdaughters as bonus. “Going from no kids to two kids has been a real learning experience, but I love having a family. The cats and dogs, and sports and homework, and crafts, and all the flurry of activity that goes along with it, is a lot of fun,” she said.
