Kindred Bio Profile NEBB Training Kansas City Corporate Challenge New Faces/Birthdays Building Technologies
In honor of Valentine’s month, we’re asking you to share the love…from our satisfied customers and colleagues. Don’t keep all the great things people say about P1 Group to yourself! We need testimonials so we can continue to share and publicly appreciate the great relationships we have with customers and partners. If you have received testimonials we can get approved for use on marketing materials and social media, or have a source where we can find testimonials (satisfaction forms, etc), SHARE THE LOVE! We’ll throw some love your way as well: Anyone who provides at least two testimonials will be entered in a drawing. Two winners will receive their choice of swag from the NEW company store. Testimonials must include:
The full source content (i.e., if it’s a letter, the whole letter) Specific person and organization it came from
Even if the testimonial is specific to an individual, we’ll still share it. This helps us increase connectivity to industry peers, and, even better, show off how awesome we are at what we do. In 2018, we started the social media campaign #TestimonialTuesday which really helped boost engagement. We also began including project testimonials in marketing materials which boosts our credibility, particularly with prospects who don’t know us as well.
Let’s keep the love going in 2019! Email Victoria Hoffman with your contributions.
WE’LL THROW SOME LOVE YOUR WAY, TOO! Anyone who provides two or more testimonials will be entered into a drawing. The winner gets their choice of swag* from the new company store. *One item per winner
SAFE KINDRED
P1 Group’s Kindred Biosciences Production Expansion project was born from customer relationship building and a solid example of P1 teamwork across many trades and services. KindredBio, a pet biopharmaceutical company based in San Francisco, took over an older pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Elmwood, KS, and will soon manufacture drugs there for companion animals like cats, dogs and horses. “This is a pharmaceutical facility that is very intense on process – both mechanical and electrical – so it really fit our wheelhouse,”

62,000 pounds of ductwork. After it was fabricated and shipped to the site, completely cleaned and sealed, Paul Spicer, sheet metal foreman, said his team took extra steps to keep the duct clean. “When we got it off the truck we checked to make sure it was still sealed and then kept it sealed all though the install,” Glenn said. Other specialized piping and systems included ambient WFI water, hot WFI water, oxygen, carbon dioxide and compressed air. These systems had to be installed per ASME Bioprocessing Eqipument Standards, which required P1 to have a complete QA/AC program in

Vice President Glenn Shain said. He also noted P1 Group had completed a great deal of work at the site for the building’s previous owners, so we were able to get started, fast, installing underground plumbing and stainless steel process waste before there was a sketch. HVAC, piping and electrical trades (field and shop) all completed work for the expansion. P1’s Performance Solutions team stepped in because the project required design assist. P1 Group recently finished the startup and is now in the process of commissioning the equipment. P1’s VDC team had a critical role in delivering this project on time and within budget. They worked from CRB’s engineering documents to create a highly technical model that fit significant ductwork, piping, conduit, and wire in a tight space. The facility’s requirements for absolutely clean duct and piping also presented a challenge. For example, the facility required nearly 2

place to install and validate the systems. P1 Group’s diligence on the project delivered the finished and expanded facility on time to KindredBio, who is now awaiting validation from the USDA to begin manufacturing drugs. Animal Pharm, an industry publication, recently named KindredBio “Best Company in North America,” noting an impressive 20 drugs that KindredBio has under development - mostly notably Mirataz, which treats anemia and weight loss in cats. Key project personnel included: Project Executives: Glenn Shain and Kollin Knox; Project Managers: Jason Quattlebaum, David Sall, Blane Sumers, Cris Ray, Chuck Huff; Foremen: Paul Spicer, Will Wall, Randy Park, John Mularoni; Fabrication Foremen: John Kraus, Jeremy Price, Michael Wessel; VDC: Ted Thompson, Nate Littlejohn, Tom Taylor; Startup and Commissions: Adam Collier, Aaron White; Performance Solutions: Bill Frede, Alan Sparling, Rusty Roderick
NEBB
We’re proud of the P1 Group Training Facility at our Lenexa headquarters for good reason. It is both unique to P1 Group and useful to our professional community. Our Training Facility is a resource that goes beyond keeping our own service technicians relevant and knowledgeable. It also provides educational opportunities to industry colleagues and partners. That is one reason P1 Group hosted the Great Plains chapter of the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) for the inaugural Test Adjust Balance (TAB) seminar January 24 and 25. There were 37 participants from NEBB-chapter firms in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. The seminar was in preparation for the NEBB TAB technician test. The content covered the fundamentals of air, water and fan laws presented in the form of lecture, presentation and interactive problem solving. “Attendees came from all over the Midwest with varying degrees of experience,” Phil Nehring, Executive Vice President, said. “The positive response from all was overwhelming on this first class. Due to this
enthusiasm, along with the capabilities of our training center, we expect this will move into training 2.0, which includes more particle hands on training.” Phil also notes that NEBB’s purpose is to ensure top quality of service in Commissioning and TAB, which requires stringent testing requirements to become certified. The focus of the P1 training center is on teaching systems, rather than specific equipment, to help technicians better understand design intent, application of the equipment and the control strategy that supports the outcome. “We greatly appreciate the hospitality and generosity P1 Group showed to our chapter,” Phil Doud, Great Plains NEBB President, said. “Your training facility is outstanding and provides an excellent setting to educate our firm technicians and professionals. We appreciate the opportunity to continue this relationship.” P1 Group has been a member of NEBB since 1972. Current P1 NEBB members are: Ken Beebe; Tony Whited; John Cobb; Mike Haycock; Sean Marconette; Adam Collier; Kevin Colvin; and Allen Eastridge.

It’s time once again to sign up for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge (KCCC), an Olympic-type event that allows companies throughout Kansas City to interact through a variety of sporting events. P1 Group has been participating in KCCC nearly every year since 2003. For P1 Group associates, KCCC is so much more than sports: It’s the opportunity to simply have fun with coworkers while strengthening relationships and even building P1 pride in the professional community. Plus, it’s a family friendly event: partners, friends and family are welcome to attend the kickoff, volunteer or just come cheer you on at events! This year marks two special anniversaries: P1 Group is celebrating 100 years, and KCCC is celebrating 40. P1’s KCCC committee is led by Tennille Tegeler and supported by a passionate group of P1 Group participators including Sarah Garcia, Brandon Smetanka, Danae Spresser, Diana Korbe, Alan Sparling, Zach Kittle, Bill Frede, James Daugherty, Bret Faris and Morgan Lassise. We need committed participants so we can participate in as many activities as possible, but equally important are our volunteers – please consider volunteering even if you aren’t going to play the games. Got questions? Contact Tennille Tegeler at 785-748-0601 or tennille.tegeler@p1group.com. Look for more KCCC kickoff activities – like the T-shirt design competition and sign-up party - coming soon!
“I love KCCC because it gives me a chance to see people I normally don’t get to see and meet others that are new to P1. I may not be an athlete but at least I attempt to play and always have fun!” -Tennille Tegeler, Project Administrator/ KCCC Committee Liaison
“Corporate Challenge brings an energy to the workforce, getting associates connected in a team setting. The first time you participate it’s kind of mind blowing how many people get out there and have fun, especially at the track events.” -James Daugherty, VDC Specialist/Sheet Metal
“You don’t have to be a competitive person or an athlete to participate! KCCC benefits The Special Olympics and knowing you are supporting your community and a great charity is enough. It’s a great way to meet new people at P1 Group and build lasting friendships.” -Danae Spresser, Senior Purchasing Agent “I love KCCC because you get to hang out and bond with your coworkers while playing sports. You get to enjoy your coworkers out of the office and on the field…let’s just say you get to see the fun side of everyone!” -Diana Korbe, Service Coordinator

A WORK IN PROGRESS...
When P1 Group’s Lawrence office relocated to the current building 13 years ago, the building was spacious, but in need of a major remodel to be functional for our needs. Offices were built in what was once warehouse space, new carpet was installed and fresh paint went on the walls. Then, late last fall, the executive team decided it was time to freshen up the workspace. With quite a few outside visitors walking through to the fabrication shops, the office spaces didn’t reflect all the excellent work that is accomplished there. Chris Champagne, Operations Manager, began laying plans for accomplishing the remodel without disrupting work too much. The office space consists of 20,000 square feet and everything had to be moved out of each area and then moved back in after the flooring and painting were finished.
“The biggest challenge was making sure everyone had a place to land while their space was being painted and carpeted,” said Chris. Moving every single item out of each space also created the opportunity for a major clean and purge, of every drawer, shelf and file cabinet. The space was divided into five areas, each with its own start and completion date. The work began in Area A (a.k.a. PM Row), and the Lawrence team sprang into action, working hard until every area was complete. On a green note, the remodel led to the mass recycling of paper from old files and discarded documents. The brighter, cleaner space has been well received and P1 can’t say “thank you” enough to all the people who worked so hard to execute this challenging project.
...NICE FINISH!

The P1 Group Company store is back and offers an all-new shopping experience. The associate store is separate from the Safety Store to allow associates who don’t have safety points to find gear and giveaways that can be purchased with a job number or credit card. Clothing items will be changed seasonally. It’s important to note the Marketing department will no longer keep these types of items on hand in Lenexa. If you are looking for giveaways or customer gifts, please plan ahead as turnaround for customization and delivery is about 10 days. If you haven’t already visited the store and created your account, step-by-step instructions for getting started are available on The Hub.
