You can’t go to Vegas without an extensive array of specialty restaurants and bars at every turn and P1 Group’s Las Vegas office is a major player in their construction and remodel. You already knew Team Las Vegas is a major provider of hospitality construction in the Las Vegas area. But in addition to the industrial work, hotel remodels, casino expansions and servicing the major casinos on the strip, business is booming in another sector: restaurant and bar construction. Over the past few years, Team Las Vegas has completed more than 40 restaurants, specialty bars, coffee shops or remodels of the same, compared to the minimal culinary work they’ve done in the past. “The restaurants range from fast food to high-end world-renowned restaurants,” Brad Davis, Vice President, said. “It could be Popeye’s or Spago’s.” “We have also been a key contractor on some of the most well-known specialty drinking establishments that only Las Vegas could have, like Redneck Riviera and a one-of-a-kind e-sports arena with full bar amenities while you are gaming,” Brad said. The Team has also built colorful places such as the Losers’ Lounge in Laughlin Nevada and the NY NY Chocolate Bar located at NY NY Casino (because there is always room for a chocolate martini). From pizza kitchens to doughnut shops, resort specialties like Park MGM Eataly or famous hamburger shops like Wahlburgers, Team Las Vegas has grown into the premiere contractor in Las Vegas for these hospitality projects. Performance Solutions Goes to the Head of the Class P1 Group Solves Challenging HVAC Issues at Paola High School PAOLA When a vendor working with Paola USD 368 discovered sludge and other performance issues with the high school’s 30-year-old hydronic piping system, he thought P1’s Performance Solutions group might be just the team for the job. As a prestigious partner with the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB), P1 Group already had a relationship with Paola superintendent Matt Meeks. P1 Group connected with Matt during KASB BOLD, an educational program for new superintendents for which P1 Group provided training in our Lenexa Training Facility. “The P1 Team walked the property in a discovery phase and found the piping was compromised and failing due to material type, installation methods, and the fact the piping system was full of solids/sludge,” Rusty Roderick, Vice President, explained. After extensive performance testing of the system, P1 Group made the following plan recommendation: • •
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) These have already been installed to reduce the flow going through the pipe so the leaks wouldn’t be compounded. This also bought time until the rest of the work can be completed. Sidestream Centrifugal Separator Filtration System This has also already been installed to remove existing sludge and sediment in the system, prevent future build-up, and minimize the risk of contaminating the new boiler plant and piping.
• • •
150 Devices Repiped P1 Group will repipe the branch piping in the entire building from the mains to all the hot water terminal devices (not the mains themselves). Boiler Plant Replacement P1 Group also found the school was using electric boilers, which not only had sludge and performance issues, but also cost approximately four to five times more than natural gas. P1 Group’s energy conservation solution is to replace these with a new hybrid high-efficiency natural gas boiler plant. $1,033,900: Total cost of the project
The replacement of the boiler plant alone will save the district approximately $70K annually, which will help fund the overall project. While the VFDs and filtration system have already been installed to minimize continuing damage for the time being, the bulk of the work won’t take place until school is out this summer. Once school is out, P1 Group will have just nine weeks to complete all the work before school starts again. “The challenge in the K-12 sector or with any public entity is they want a turnkey solution,” Rusty said. “P1 can provide all of it: discover the problem, engineer the solution and implement the solution.” “P1 Group is using a design-build approach on this project, allowing us to compress the timeline to meet the tight summer turnaround,” Rusty said. Rusty also notes how critical manpower numbers are for compressed schedules. “You have to have the manpower as well to get a project of this magnitude done in nine weeks. We may have 12-15 pipefitters and four electricians on site to make this happen,” he said. Through relationships, a reputation that precedes us, and the agility to assess and implement complex performance solutions quickly, P1 Group is on its way to making another facility efficient and comfortable for the people that use it every day. 2
P1 Group Improves Communication with Upgrade to UC-One UC ONE UC-One is a continuation of our ever-evolving office phone platform that started implementation in 2014. The application is bundled with our current phone system and enhances the capabilities of that platform to hold meetings, find contacts, and improve communication at no additional cost. UC-One combines instant messaging and presence, desk and mobile voice communication, video calling, and desktop collaboration into a single application interface that is available and is available to users of our office (VoIP) phone system. Vanessa Taylor, IT Special Projects, says it was a much needed upgrade to the latest technology. “UC-One is a cost effective and convenient application that all office employees can use to better communicate with others inside and outside P1 as it is included with the phone system we selected. “

FUN@4 EVENT BUILDS VALUABLE PARTNER RELATIONSHIPS FUN
Lytle Construction, BSA LIfestructures, Brack and Associates
McCarthy, Branch Pattern and Pulse Design Group
We’ve been having some fun at P1, and we’ve invited key partners to join us for some food, some drinks, some company and some mad Cornhole competition. P1 Fun@4 began as a business development idea that would simply allow us to have our friends over to play. In other words, let us get to know our strategic partners in a relaxed atmosphere that only asks one thing of guests: please have fun on P1! “The goal of this event has always been to strengthen our relationships with the architects, engineers and contractors we work with on a daily basis,” Tim Moore, Business Development Manager, said. “The more we learn about each other, the better chance we’ll have at succeeding together.” P1 Fun@4 kicked off in the fall of 2018. Invited guests from Lytle Construction, BSA Lifestructures, and Brack and Associates came
to the Lenexa Gathering room for beer, catered food, and a Cornhole bracket competition with prizes for the winners. In November, the event included Branch Pattern, McCarthy, and Pulse Design Group. “These events have provided the chance to learn more about one another beyond the daily responsibilities of our lives,” Tim said. “We also get to tell our whole story. Some folks see us as just a mechanical subcontractor when in reality we offer much more. “When the attendees get to learn what we do and how we do it, they are more likely to think of us as a single-source provider for multiple trades.” This March, P1 Group looks forward to hosting McCownGordon, Henderson Engineers, and HOK.
Spring Corporate Sponsorship Awards are Coming Twice each year, P1 Group will provide sponsorship money to associates who are involved with personal and/or community activities. The sponsorships help P1 serve the community through the organizations that are meaningful to P1 associates. Past winners have included youth sports teams, philanthropies, a motorcycle club, Scouts, and many more. The cause nearest and dearest to your heart might be a winner. Two sponsorship prizes are awarded in the spring and again in the fall (four yearly sponsorships altogether).
YOU CAN’T WIN IF YOU DON’T ENTER! Open enrollment for Spring 2019 will be March 20-April 10. Applications MUST be submitted only during the enrollment period. Stay tuned for information on how to enter coming your way in March.
