CBA CHRISTIAN BROTHERS ACADEMY
History and Tradition At Christian Brothers, our students strive toward academic excellence, build their faith and learn to serve others. Here you will find a variety of activity, all rooted in the Lasallian tradition of educating the whole person. Visiting our campus, you get a true sense of the distinctive history and traditions that have embodied our school, as well as the energy and enthusiasm that have continued its success. From the first students to enter the Lincroft campus in 1959, to the newest generation of learners, our mission has continued; build Men of Faith, Men of Integrity, Men of Accomplishment and Men of Promise. These are the true benchmarks by which we measure our educational success. 1959
Christian Brothers Academy opened their doors in Lincroft in a converted stable. The school was founded through the efforts of George Sheehan, Peter Fleming and John C. Henderson, with the support of the Brothers of Christian Schools. Construction on the first school buildings started the following Spring.

The first efforts to expand the campus was in the early 80’s where improvements were made to the existing building with new classrooms, office availability and theater for the performing arts
Again in early 2000 the expansion process continued to improve the campus. A new gym and science wing were added to the existing footprint.
After 50 years of excellence CBA now takes on its newest renovation. The latest addition includes a state-of-theart media center, library and new classroom wing. Athletic enhancements will feature a new weight room and team locker rooms in 2012, as well as an Aquatic Center and indoor field house in the near future.
Academic Excellence Christian Brothers Academy’s academic program is demanding and prepares our young men for a life of inquiry, learning, and decisionmaking. With a strong foundation in history, math, religion, the languages and sciences, as well as the arts, a CBA student explores diverse course offerings and comes to read more closely, think more carefully, and write more clearly. With moral development underlying the educational process, we hope that our students come to “find God in all things.” Our high school program provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum with emphasis on encouraging a thirst for knowledge by promoting critical and creative thinking. CBA faculty members guide their students toward becoming self-motivated, organized,
independent, and conscientious scholars, which we hope stays with them all their lives. With twentyone Advanced Placement courses and honors classes available in all subject areas, every young man at The Academy is challenged to excel to the highest levels and exceed his own expectations. CBA’s diverse variety of courses aim to enhance the intercultural capacity of our students. Our everexpanding list of course offerings can be found on out website at www.cbalincroftnj.org. As the world progresses, CBA does as well to the needs of our student body. With focus on mind and spirit, our curriculum has advanced over the years to not only compete with, but surpass the requirements of the most prestigious and academically advanced colleges in the nation.
Men of Faith Service
Spirituality As a Christian Brothers School, CBA advances the mission of our faith through its commitment to develop students in their relationship with God and the validation of their own faith. There is a partnership between The Christian Brothers and
Christian Brothers Academy strives to educate the whole person - the education of the mind and the education of the heart. The hallmark of CBA’s Christian Brothers education is lighting the way through Christian Service to enable boys to become MEN OF FAITH. Through the education of the heart, CBA students are guided to be compassionate, loving, and faithfully dedicated to promoting justice in the world they will enter upon graduation. During the course of their journey, our students become more open to growth and begin a commitment to acting justly as they strengthen their love for humanity. All CBA students participate in appropriate Christian Service projects that enable them to directly assist the less fortunate, disabled, and elderly. Students learn about the constructive action required of our Christian faith, and how they can contribute toward alleviating social injustice.
lay members of the faculty to work together as a single apostolic body concerned with the formation of our students. The spiritual life at CBA is based in the tradition of the Catholic Church. School-wide liturgical celebrations involve all members of the CBA community. Morning mass is offered daily in our chapel before school to those interested. Annual retreats, service programs, and religious instruction engage our students in personal spiritual growth and nurture healthy relationships. CBA fosters a respect for diverse faith expressions and promotes interreligious dialogue.
Co-Curricular Activities Athletics CBA’s comprehensive physical education program includes required classes for all grades. The program emphasizes the development of physical skills, teamwork and knowledge of efficient and creative movement through participation in a sequential program of varied activities. Throughout the school year, many students participate in our intramural sports programs. The key ingredients of the intramural sports are “fun” and “friends”. The CBA interscholastic athletic program is a valuable dimension of the mission to educate the whole person - mind, body and spirit - and provides opportunities for students to compete successfully and with pride. Student athletes learn to compete with character and to handle any outcome with class. Long after the score is forgotten, the behavior of athletes, coaches, and fans will be remembered. The Academy fields competitive varsity teams in Soccer, Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball, Swimming, Ice Hockey, Wrestling, Indoor Track, Lacrosse, Baseball, Track & Field, Golf, Tennis, Crew and Bowling, with most offering Freshmen and Junior Varsity levels.
The Arts CBA encourages young men to engage in a range of interests that complement their academic studies and more fully develop the mind, body and spirit. Exposure to the fine arts such as music, theatre, and art history is an important component to the CBA experience. The Visual and Performing Arts program guides our students through a range of curricular and co-curricular activities designed to provide them an appreciation for the history of human accomplishment in the arts as well as the means to explore their creative potential and develop new skills.
Clubs & Activities The Academy features over forty clubs and organizations that cover a variety of interests. From academic clubs such as the Model U.N. and Math Team, to competitive clubs such as chess, sailing and fencing, to pleasurable clubs like the surfing or video game club, there is truly something for every boy that walks the hallways at CBA.

Honors
and is not assigned academic credit. The grading scale is as follows: A B+ B C+ C D F
= = = = = = =
4.0 (90-100) 3.5 (85-89) 3.0 (80-84) 2.5 (75-79) 2.0 (70-74) 1.0 (65-69) 0.0 (64 and below)
Weighted grades are entered for each subject on report cards and transcripts. Earned grades are weighted according to the following table: Course Type Accelerated (ACC) or Advanced Placement (AP) Honors (H) Standard (S)
