EXCRETORY SYSTEM 1.- WHAT IS EXCRETION?: The body needs to remove waste products, so it does it through a mechanism called excretion. Cells in our body generate different types of waste products: .- Carbon dioxide expelled through the lungs. .- Waste liquids expelled through the excretory system and the skin (in sweat glands).
2.- THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM: It is composed by some organs: 1.- The two kidneys: are organs that filter the blood. They remove toxic products, they collect them and mix with water to form the urine. 2.- The urinary tract: is a tube where the urine flows out. It has two ureters which link the kidneys with the bladder. The bladder is a kind of container for urine, and finally the urethra that carries urine out of the body.
All of our blood runs through our kidneys every day lots of times. There is an artery and a vein that runs in and out of each kidney to take the blood there and back. Kidneys filter the blood and extract waste products. The clean blood returns to the body through the renal veins. The residues mixed with water (urine) go through the ureters to the bladder, and finally go out through the urethra.

3.- EXCRETION THROUGH THE SKIN: In our skin there are millions of sweat glands that produce sweat (a mixture of salt and water). Blood flows through capillaries to the sweat glands, they filter it and get residues, they mix them with water and form sweat, later it is expelled through pores in the skin. The clean blood returns to the body.
