RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

C.E.I.P. Santa Ana (Madridejos)

BREATHING: It’s one of the nutrition functions. Breathing is the process that moves air in and out of the lungs. Breathing is also the process that delivers oxygen to cells in the body and removes carbon dioxide from them.

1.- RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: Our respiratory system includes the lungs, and some tubes ( airways) that connect them with the mouth and nose.

.- The airways or respiratory tract: It is formed by nasal cavity, the pharynx, the larynx, the trachea, the bronchial tubes. In the lungs these tubes divide into smaller and smaller ones called the bronchioles with end in small sacks called alveoli. .- The lungs: The lungs have a spongy and soft texture. The lungs are the essential respiration organs in many animals. They are helped by a breathing muscle called the diaphragm. Their principal function is to transport oxygen from the atmosphere into the bloodstream, and to release carbon dioxide from the blood into the atmosphere. This exchange of gases is in thinwalled air sacs called alveoli.
