Pablo Prado Architecture and Design

PORTFOLIO 2019

e: paplo.prado@gmail.com t: +49 152 56237983

Hi! I’m Pablo Prado, a design enthusiast with a solid background in architecture. I have always believed that architecture plays a significant role in a society’s quality of life. My work in this field has taught me that architecture can and should transcend its formal qualities; it involves people and demands dialogue. I’m inspired by listening to, learning from and contributing to those conversations. As Mexico is my home country, I have a strong background in Mexican design, but I have also studied abroad in the United States and Czech Republic. My professional experience has allowed me to approach design from different perspectives. Teamwork is an essential part of any project I take on, as I believe that creating architecture is an extensive process that calls for multiple points of view and areas of expertise. Milan 44, Interior Design Mexico City, MX

Professional

2018-2019

When I started working at Reurbano, the decision to move the office from one building to another was already taken, but most of the design was not. After a couple of months working at the previous building, I had the opportunity to prove my design skills and I was assigned to complete the interior design for the new Reurbano offices. It was a project with various challenges, but mostly full of opportunities. Through a participative design process today the Reurbano offices are completed.

Parklet, Urban Design Mexico City, MX

Professional

As an extension of the architecture of Milan 44, I designed a parklet structure to extend the offer into the public spaces of the Juarez neighbourhood in Mexico City. The idea is very simple. Renting out two parking spaces and converting them into a public space. With urban furniture, bike parking and vegetation, it invites people to appropriate the space and make it their own. This project is now awaiting approval from the local authorities for its construction.

The itinerant gallery guadalajara90210 had a building under construction for themselves to create an art exhibition. They invited Reurbano to create an art installation. I was asked, together with Hugo Vargas, to conceive an installation. After the design process and the conceptualization, we came together with a piece that creates a dialogue between raw materials involved in construction and materials that are more appealing to look at. The exhibition was a success and included works by other renowned architects such as Frida Escobedo and Rozana Montiel.

Tevor Paglen at Tamayo Mexico City, MX

Professional

My internship at Tamayo Museum helped me discover new interests and practice my design skills in a different way. After a couple of months working for the Educational Department, I created a proposal for how we could rethink the museum’s work spaces. My proposal was implemented and after I presented the sketches and models to the team at the museum. I asked to assist the curatorial team. I contributed to the modeling and design for Trevor Paglen’s exhibition.

Skills Architectural Design Reserarch Visualizations

London, UK Thesis project 2018-2019

The world is home to more than 7,000 languages and yet we will lack a central resource that documents and celebrates this diversity. The idea for this project started with the open call for a competition by Archasm. I decided to take the project and develop it for my thesis project. I experienced how language helps society to communicate and expand new ideas and transcend in history. The real challenge with this project was the following question: “How to translate the ‘language’ into a space?”. The result is a building that integrates itself to its surroundings, being approachable and accessible for any visitor. My building proposal offers 5 different access possibilities, inviting and welcoming everyone and creating many ways to explore the space.

The museum hosts 6 galleries with different conditions for any particular exhibition. The architectural program is complemented by an educational centre with an auditorium, classrooms and a library. The amenities for the museum include an outdoor exhibition area/ plaza, a restaurant with a view to the Thames, and a museum store.

The business plan was also incorporated into the project with the general costs of construction and how the museum and the brand could work.

Pier Road

For the project I designed the building, the structure and the installations involved in all of its functions.

Integration into the area by re-using design elements in a contemporary way.

Acces and connection to existing public spaces. Setting back the building to respect the urban scale, creating an extension ofthe public space.

Zuidas Skyscrapers

Academic

2017

Skills Architectural Design Visualizations Business Model One of the biggest new developments in Amsterdam —the capital city of The Netherlands— is Zuidas. In the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague, the project of two skyscrapers in this development was the most challenging option. As a studio, we travelled to Amsterdam to talk to the developers and users of the area to approach the project with a better understanding of what was needed there. The architectural program required housing and commercial spaces. That was the basic needs, but we realized that the project was beyond that. We explored different ideas for how to design with the particular challenges of the area.

13

We were required to design 2 buildings integrated into each other and with an integrated ground floor to have a constant life and to be inviting to the daily users of Ziudas. One of the elements to consider and that impacted the design is the nearby radio tower. This tower does not represent a health problem for the nearby users, but I still considered that the minimum radiation could be shielded by the building itself.

MASSING STRATEGY

Vivaldi - Zuidas , Amsterdam Project by: Pablo Prado Serrano Studio: Achten, Pavlicek

I shielded the residential building with the office building as a design strategy, and this decision also improved the views for the residential building.

Forest Fire Centre Mexico City, MX Academic

2016

Skills Architectural Design Reserarch Visualizations The area of Ajusco in Mexico City is known for its steep hills and beautiful forests. This forest is threatened by fire every summer due to high temperatures and lack of rain. For years there has been conversations about a forest fire centre in the area as it would help to have immediate response to this recurrent problem. As a design team at my home university we decided to explore proposals for the authorities. They offered a site that was available but very challenging. It was a very steep site and with a lot of forest nature to consider. We took the project and each student had a different proposal. In the end this project enriched our learning process by bringing a local and necessary function to the studio.

Hans Scharoun 1893-1972

Iglesia 1966
