June 10, 2021

Dear Friends, On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Pace University, welcome to the 2021 Spirit of Pace Awards. This has been a year of remarkable challenges, but also a year of remarkable resilience. It has shown the strength and resilience of the Pace Community, and that makes me especially pleased to come together for this opportunity to celebrate our achievements. This year, we have five outstanding honorees—their leadership sets an example for all of us, and especially for our ambitious students. We are very pleased to recognize Joseph R. Ianniello ’90, chairman and chief executive officer of INLO Ventures, with our Leaders in Management Award; Nancy A. Garvey, PhD, retired vice president and controller of AlliedSignal, with our Impact Award; Carl and Betty Pforzheimer, business leaders and philanthropists, with our Lifetime Achievement Award; Robert S. Ellin ’91, chairman and chief executive officer of LiveXLive Media, with our Lubin Alumni Achievement Award; and Elmer-Rico E. Mojica, PhD, associate professor of chemistry, with our Homer and Charles Pace Faculty Award. In my final year as board chairman, I am deeply gratified that we are able to assemble and recognize such an extraordinary group. We remain grateful to them—and to all of you—for the friendship, support, and commitment that allows this University to thrive. Proceeds from tonight’s event support scholarships and other lasting investments in student success. Together, we’re ensuring that we can continue to create opportunity for the next generation of Pace students. Thank you all for helping us honor our Spirit of Pace Award winners, thank you for helping us celebrate Pace, and thank you for supporting our students.

Sincerely,

Mark M. Besca ’81 Chairman, Board of Trustees

PACE UNIVERSITY Spirit of Pace Awards

June 10, 2021

Dear Friends, Welcome to the 2021 Spirit of Pace Awards. Each year, this night is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our special community. Tonight, it’s also our first event for alumni and friends in more than a year to have even a small in-person component. I’m so glad we’re all able to be together, in whatever format, and I’m even more pleased to mark the beginning of the end of our enforced separation. We’re all so excited for a much more normal Fall 2021 semester at Pace University, with in-person classes and activities, vibrant residence halls, and bustling campuses. We’ve been able to make it through the past year, and we’re poised for such an exciting new academic year, thanks to the generosity of our Pace alumni and friends. Your commitment is what gives our students the opportunity to go out and pursue their dreams. Our focus on our students is what has kept us motivated through this challenging year. They’re hardworking, driven go-getters, and they stayed engaged and on track through the year of remote learning and remote life. We know that we at Pace play a critical role in driving the kinds of transformations that have always been one of our society’s greatest strengths. We are the top-ranked private, four-year college in the country for driving upward economic mobility, according to the Opportunity Insights project at Harvard. We change students’ lives. We’re proud of our successes, and we’re proud of your support. We’re especially proud to be able to honor Joe Ianniello, Nancy Garvey, Carl and Betty Pforzheimer, Rob Ellin, and Elmer Mojica. Congratulations to them, and thanks to all of you—for your partnership, your generosity, and your commitment to our students.

Sincerely,

Marvin Krislov

Pace University’s Black Student Union works to uplift the Black community, and acknowledges and prioritizes the needs of Black students, especially when considering the profound effects of the economic polarization of race intersecting with class, gender, and sexuality. The Black Student Union is proud to establish a scholarship fund to support the financial needs of students as Black scholars. We are thrilled to announce that a group of generous alumni have answered the call and, collectively, provided $25,500 in a matching fund! A very heartfelt thank you goes out to: Bob Robotti, MBA ’78, Member, Board of Trustees Su Robotti, Member, Publishing Program Advisory Board Sabrina Griffin, MBA ’92, Member, President’s Council Mike Aviles, BBA ’82, Member, President’s Council Mary Gibbons Gardiner, BBA ’85, Member, Alumnae Engagement Council
