very important issue in society and the economy is growing in complexity, and solutions almost always have a legal component.
New legal fields are emerging, such as financial compliance, data security, and privacy, and while some established fields are contracting, others are growing. Advocacy and Moot Court
Our trial advocacy and moot court programs, which transform students into highly effective advocates, have earned a significant national reputation. Led by outstanding professors who are also successful practitioners, these programs synthesize classroom learning, real world observation, simulated courtroom classes and a strong foundation in legal skills and substantive law. In moot court and simulated trials, students argue cases, provide legal representation to clients in a wide range of practical skills courses, receive professional feedback on their performance by peers, faculty, practicing attorneys, and judges, and gain exposure to areas of law in which they are considering careers.

Path to Practice clinics, externships, internships
Learning through real-world experience has been a critical part of our DNA from day one. As one of the first law schools to emphasize practical legal skills as a complement to theory, we offer a broad portfolio of clinics with a deep history of public service and commitment to social justice — students learn while advocating for clients and groups in need. Under the supervision of professors and under a student practice order, students transition from textbook to practice by acting as attorneys — they interview and counsel clients, mediate and arbitrate disputes, and appear in court and before administrative agencies. ProBono Scholars devote their entire final semester providing legal services in our clinics and other legal service offices after taking the February bar exam.

Pace Law’s faculty is comprised of exceptional scholars and practitioners in varied fields of practice. Some have written policy as legislators. Many have been associates and partners at firms, worked in business, and served in government, public interest organizations, and the judiciary. A number are community leaders and advocates for social justice. Others have led entrepreneurial and start-up ventures. The breadth and depth of our faculty enables us to offer hundreds of courses and seminars ranging from foundational issues in jurisprudence to cutting-edge questions that arise in the most sophisticated legal practices. Above all, they are mentors who cultivate a student-centered environment. “I work in derivatives at a big, global firm, representing financial institutions, hedge funds, energy and commodity companies, and trade associations in a variety of transactional, regulatory, and enforcement matters. In my course and clinical work, professors took the time to learn about my interests, helped me assess my strengths, and absolutely, pointed out where I needed to improve and grow. As a result of this mentoring, I moved from an environmental concentration to finance.
“I spend a fair amount of time in court and one of the biggest requirements is the ability to think quickly on my feet. From day one, I felt confident and prepared in court because of the practical experience I had at Pace Law. One of the most useful skills I learned through trial advocacy courses — in which all of the instructors were practicing attorneys — was the ability to react and respond in court with confidence. I also participated in the Prosecution Externship at the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, which is not far from campus. I gained a tremendous amount of exposure to the criminal justice system. I was also very involved in the Public Interest Law Scholarship Organization (PILSO), which enabled me to take an unpaid internship with a judge during my first summer.
