On the book, Chuck says:

One day as we were at a church setting up our sound system for an afternoon concert, the pastor asked me if our trio had a mission statement. I’d never thought about that before. I began wondering, What is a mission statement?

When I asked Dona what she thought, she told me, “You have always wanted to be an encouragement, to help people who are struggling through tough times as we have. I guess if we had a mission statement, that would be it—to be an encourager.”

In my mind I see the painting of Jesus standing at a door, knocking. I think of my own experience and how many times and how many ways He has stood at the door to my heart, waiting for me to invite Him in. He does that for everyone. He loves each of us as His child. He has done everything He knows to do to bring us home to Him. He never gives up on us.

And so our purpose in exposing our personal struggles is the hope that it will lift Jesus high and bring honor to His faithful goodness and His wonderful name. It’s our wish that somehow these stories behind the songs will reach some discouraged, struggling soul that is needing help along the way. To help that person to look up, hold on, and Never Give Up.
