The Winds of Change An Open Letter From Yarrow Coven On behalf of everyone in Yarrow Coven, I want to thank the entire Pagan community for their support of the Picnic for the last five years. It has been an honor to serve as stewards of this event on your behalf. Our involvement in the St. Louis Pagan Picnic goes back to its roots. We have watched it go through many changes over the last eighteen years and are witnessing another big change taking place right now. This year. Yarrow Coven has handed over the Picnic to a new corporation who, hopefully, will take the Picnic to new heights. St. Louis Pagan Events, Inc. is the new steward as of this year’s event. They will continue to bring you the Picnic you have come to love and support. We hope you will show them the same support you have given Yarrow over the years. We are proud of our stewardship. Yarrow Coven took our responsibility seriously because we had to. We knew we would someday give up the reins and be confident we handed over an event known for its continued tolerance of spiritual diversity and appreciation of the Artes Magickal. We also didn’t want the new corporation to struggle like we did the first two years after CAST handed it to us. Yarrow Coven is leaving the Picnic financially sound for many years to come. This was no small feat. It only happened because you, the Pagan community, would not let it die. Yarrow Coven is off on new projects. Things we must do for ourselves because we need it, but we are not abandoning the community. Some of us in fact, will continue to serve on the Picnic Committee in one fashion or another. In closing, I want to say thank you again. Thank you for your trust. Thank you for your support. Thank you for being our partners in this premier event. Sincerely, El Bee Kanobe, HP of Yarrow Coven Lords and Ladies, Welcome to the 18th annual St Louis Pagan Picnic! This has been a busy year for the picnic and we have had a few growing pains. Yarrow Coven has turned the Picnic over to the newly formed St Louis Pagan Events, Inc. We would like to thank Yarrow Coven for all the years they sponsored The St Louis Pagan Picnic. We can only hope to follow in their footsteps. St Louis Pagan Events, Inc is just what it sounds like, a new community group dedicated to sponsoring and supporting The St Louis Pagan Picnic. This year’s theme is ‘Connecting to One’ and I hope you all get connected at the years event. We have an array of vendors, workshops and performers. I’m sure you’ll find something to enjoy! Please be sure you visit this year’s raffle booth. The Pagan Community is so generous in their support of The St Louis Pagan Picnic that we are having two raffles this year, one each day. Be sure you stop by the booth and see what you could win! All of our volunteers have worked very hard on this year’s Picnic. When you see them, please be sure you let them know how much you enjoy the St Louis Pagan Picnic. I hope you do enjoy your day here at The St Louis Pagan Picnic, Mz Darlene President St Louis Pagan Events, Inc

Please join us in donating an item to our collectiion bins located at the Information Booth. Established in 1981 to address the growing problem of hunger, Operation Food Search is a St. Louis food bank that distributes food free of charge helping to feed the poor and hungry. Operation Food Search distributes more than 1.5 million pounds of perishable and nonperishable food and household items to 265 food pantries and soup kitchens who offer emergency hunger-relief to nearly 120,000 poor people every single month. Nearly half the recipients are children.
Clowder House Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Diane Hurwitz. A life-long cat lover, Diane had heard of other facilities throughout the country that offered lifetime care for cats and wondered who in St. Louis would take care of her cats if she needed it? And the idea for St. Louis’ only sanctuary for domestic felines was born. Clowder House Foundation, Inc., a no-kill, minimum-cage facility, provides lifetime care for your cat or cats when you are no longer able to do so. We offer a tranquil setting with plenty of cat toys, furniture and sunny windows for your cat’s enjoyment. Music, human love and companionship will be a part of your cat’s everyday life. Page 4

Connecting to One… What Does That Really Mean? Written by Jennifer Adele. We are all One. I honor the Divine in all beings. Earth is our mother and we are all her children. We are all connected within the web of life. It’s all God/Goddess. Namaste. Blessed be. It’s not uncommon to hear any of the above phrases said by folks within the Pagan community. And, as a Pagan I’ve heard all of these things said numerous times. I’ve also undoubtedly said most of these things myself. But, lately I’ve been contemplating these sayings and questioning whether or not we as Pagans actually mean them. Do we mean it when we say these types of things, or do we say things just because they sound good and we like to hear ourselves talk? WARNING: This is a heavily contemplative think piece. Enter the approaching head space at your own risk. Perhaps it is time that we stop and do some deep thinking about how we treat others, and that means all others whether we are personally fond of them or not, whether it immediately benefits us or not. Are we in a head space that allows compassion and harmony to flow through us to all other sentient beings? And, if not, how does that speak of our true communication and connection with the entire web? If we are being toxic towards others then we are really only poisoning ourselves. If we can not love all our human brothers and sisters then we certainly can not love ourselves, expect others to love us, or expect to move forward in our lives with any semblance of healthy growth. Take a moment and look into your own heart, then listen to your own thoughts as you consider everyone that you come into contact with on a regular basis. Are you compassionate towards them as you should be while maintaining proper boundaries that expand and contract appropriately? If, in fact, you really believe them to be part of the divine and a structure within the web that contains you, too, are your actions displaying your professed beliefs? I am fortunate enough to have a very wise friend who once counseled me by saying, “People show you who they are. Believe them.” And, from that I learned to pay closer attention to what people do. Their actions are always more true to their selves than their words. So, what do your actions say about you? Let’s take a moment to also consider Earth as our mother. Are we really honoring her with the love we say we have? Are we honoring all the sentient beings that live with her: plants, animals, land, water, sky, and people? What would that look like if we actually did? continued.... Page 8

Connecting to One… What Does That Really Mean? Written by Jennifer Adele.
Ask yourself, do we poison the Earth with our greedy and arrogant energy? Do we consume without reason and never give any thought to giving back or balancing resources? Are we so concerned with our daily lives that we have lost sight of the bigger picture. I’ll recycle tomorrow. I’ll stop smoking tomorrow. I’ll forgive that person tomorrow, I be kind and considerate tomorrow. I’ll tend to my home and yard tomorrow. I’ll make that charitable donation tomorrow. I’ll exercise and eat better tomorrow. I’ll switch my shopping habits to a more environmentally friendly and fair trade manner tomorrow. I’ll consume less and give more tomorrow. I’ll work on my own personal balance and boundaries tomorrow. I’ll do better tomorrow. Can you really expect the Earth or the web to give to you today if you are planning all of your giving, compassion, balance, and harmony for tomorrow? How are you connecting to One today? You know, we may not even have tomorrow.

WORKSHOPS
How to Catch the Red Dragon! Presented by W. Lyon Martin For many newcomers, spells discovered in books are their only choice when they wish to begin to practice magic. A great majority of these pre-packaged rituals suggest waiting until a certain moon phase or season. Some include ‘ingredients’ which are either hard to come by or unavailable at all. Not only is this frustrating, it is also impractical for many modern day practitioners with work, school, children and other demands on their
time. With the use of a humorous rendition of a red dragon tale participants learn how to craft spells and rituals to suit their current needs, with every day ingredients already at their disposal, without having to wait for the “proper” Moon phase or seasonal energies.
Introduction to Hermeticism Presented by Rev. Bill Duvendack An Introduction to Hermeticism will give attendees a brief history of the Royal Art of Hermeticism. The presentation will go from history up to current, showing the evolution of this body of work. There will also be clarification as to what is and what isn’t Hermetic.

We Are One. Written by Jennifer Adele A heart that beats With a gentle rhythm As the sea rushes fervently in And expectantly outContraction, expansion, Living, breathing. My heart sings your song. A song that sighs Like the warm rustle Of wind through weeping willows’ Branches stretched lowMovement, stillness, Reaching, releasing. My song touches your ear.
An ear that listens When the crickets call As skies ominously darken To lighten againEternal, existential, Turning, turning. My ear hears your very life. A life we share Of laughter so melodious And silent tears spilling to shatter Like little crystalsApart, together, Bleeding, healing. My self is your self. We are one. Copyright Š 2010.

BARDIC CIRCLE PERFORMERS
Ami Amoré & Exotic Rhythms Bellydance Ami Amoré has studied bellydance for over 10 years, she believes it is a spiritual journey celebrating the goddess within. She has been teaching all forms of bellydance and creative movement through Exotic Rhythms Bellydance since 2006.
Cronus Cronus started with the founding members, Matt and Casey, writing songs in a mini studio. The songs and ideas seemed to meet at an organic, but very rock oriented approach. From that day on the band Cronus was born.
Sugar Cyanide Sugar Cyanide is both a classic and neo burlesque performer.
Lida Una Within most of the greatest music lies an ingrained tension. The greatest songwriters work with it, allowing it to build, until eventually rewarding their listeners with a resolution. Such is the music of Lida Una...each song energetically pulsing with a natural tension that is released by song’s end.
Jenn Lutke Jenn Lutke has been told that her music can be described as spiritual, deep, connecting and thought provoking. As a singer songwriter she likes for her songs to transcend any particular genre and vary from slow and soulful to gentle and rhythmatic to pop and even folk and country. Page 27

BARDIC CIRCLE PERFORMERS
Ockums Razor (Acoustic) In the beginning of 2007, Ockum’s Razor reached a point in their musical aspirations where they found themselves without a steady rhythm section, etc. and had went through a lot of members and tried out alot of people. Nothing seemed to work. So, being musicians that are dedicated and loving what we do, we decided to branch out a bit and try doing some acoustic stuff. Romani Blue Romani Blue is a pagan/wiccan band formed in 2002 to accompany belly dance troupes. Romani middle eastern music with a turkish traditional/ cabaret.
Saence (playing acoustic) A heavy, ambient, dark rock band who is based just outside of St. Louis.
Jennie Starr Jennie Starr is an artist from Columbia, MO. She plays independently and also with a couple different groups: Home Brewed Magic and Romani Blue. She also has a solo album that was released in Feb. 2010.
Tribe Ayaka North & West African -- Tribal Fusion Belly Dance
URN (playing acoustic) The Chicago-based dark metal band URN (U.S.) is one on a musical journey exploring the darker aspects of both the conscious mind and the unconscious soul. The band has been captivating audiences across multiple genres and have been establishing themselves as one the more energetic live acts to see. Page 29

Prometheus Sometimes Part 1 Sometimes, we build an empire ...and then watch it slowly crumble away
Sometimes I’m covered in a shroud of blackest pitch My body is pale, yet alive… I’m thrown into the ditch
Sometimes we fight, tooth and nail, for freedom ...then shackle our own hands to the Rock of Dismay
Hades, my uncle, refuses me His land of cold stone, I cannot see I was chosen by The Elders Strong To put their many words to song
What once made me strong, now weakens my soul They tallied up my wrongs, but it just isn’t so From my heart, I gave fire, warmth and blazing light I offered health, peace and a deeper insight
How can I when I am bound Just my voice, made now, to sound
Sometimes, I have wings made of gold and fire ...and a heart made aglow by a mortals desire
Sometimes, I feel, the love and pain I own Put me upon this cursed… Dismay Stone
Sometimes I feel her face in my hands …knowing she is the only one who understands

To our many volunteers.....
THANK YOU! The St Louis Pagan Picnic is a community sponsored event. It only happens through your efforts. You, the Pagan Community, are the backbone of the event and we applaud you. It is usually a thankless job... with very little appreciation.. filled with long hours and back breaking work. Take a look around you though over the weekend, take note of the smiling faces and laughing children. This is your Reward. Take pride in having contributed to their delight.
Thank you for a job well done... and we look forward to working with you next year!
VOLUNTEER! If you have a free hour this weekend... stop by the Information Booth. We have jobs to be done and could use your help! We have open positions on the Picnic Planning Committee as well. It’s hard to believe, but planning for next year will begin approximately 1 month after Picnic. If you’d like to fill a spot on the committee, speak to someone at the Information Booth or visit http://www.PaganPicnic.org for contact information.
