COMPANY OVERVIEW

Banana Republic was founded in 1978 by Mel and Patrick Ziegler. It began with a safari theme, and was taken over by Gap Inc. in 1983. Currently, Banana Republic has over 600 stores internationally, and has become a brand widely known for their fresh take on classic business wear pieces.From the beginning, Banana Republic has placed significant value on the tailoring and impeccable quality of their products. For the Fall/Winter 2015 collection, inspiration is taken from the combination of historic and modern architecture. Clean lines and contrasting fabric and materials showcase this concept, while interesting seam details mimic the shapes of the buildings.

Banana Republic is a part of Gap Inc.’s brand portfolio, and has been consistently underperforming the Old Navy brand, while slightly outperforming the Gap brand. However,the financial performance of Banana Republic needs to be improved. The Fall/ Winter 2015 collection will offer the same quality and integrity that Banana Republic is known for, with more interesting statement pieces in order to draw in new customers and increase profits. Banana Republic’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection was inspired by the mix of old and new architecture, and the beautiful dissonance it creates. Line and shape were taken from both modern and historic architectural forms. The new, edgy feel to some of the pieces adds another dimension to the traditional classic and clean Banana Republic line. Brighter accent colors against a otherwise neutral color palatte strengthens the concept of old vs. new, and offers a fresh, stylish take on a classic brand.

DESIGN STATEMENT

C U S T O M E R P R O F I L E

The customer for Banana Republic’s Fall/ Winter 2015/16 collection is a woman between the ages of 22-40. She is a career woman, either ambitiously starting out with a new, fast-paced corporate job, or working hard to improve her company in her current, secure position. Either way, she needs a wardrobe that is classic, yet stylish and powerful to project her image to the world. She shops at Banana Republic for their excellent quality materials and innovative business apparel. She lives in New York City in a modern apartment with organic touches. In her free time, she will relax with friends, read in a local coffee shop, and during vacations from work, she loves to travel.
