Summer fun all summer long GLM is a year-round Montessori program that offers themed summer camps. With special summer activities within the Montessori program, we provide continuity for returning students and develop teacher/child/family relationships with new students.

Toddler Fun in the Sun (18 Months - 2 1/2 Years)

The summer is a great time for new toddlers to adjust to a day away from parents and other caregivers. The fundamentals of being “in school are learned in a loving, fun environment. Toddlers attend age-appropriate assemblies and events and enjoy their own outdoor activities such as gardening and splashing in wading pools on warm days.

Summer Fun in the Sun (Pre-K thru Kindergarten)

There will be themed sessions in science, sports, creative arts and transportation, in addition to the continuity of the Montessori classroom curriculum. Other weekly activities may include gardening, music/movement, yoga, art, cooking and water play.

Intro to the Performing Arts - Jul. 31 - Aug. 11 (For GLM 5 yr. olds only) Full 10 day attendance is required : 8-3:30 M-F

GLM five year olds are enrolled in this separate summer camp on a first-come, firstserved basis. WEEK ONE: Arts, crafts, scenery projects, movement and face painting. Introduction to performing arts working with professionals, and the children spend brief periods of time with the 6-16 year olds. WEEK TWO: Parents drop children at the theater site at 27th/Broadway (part of First Presbyterian Church) for rehearsals. Monday - Thursday only, children staying for care beyond 4pm are ferried back to GLM for after-care. Children perform an ensemble song for performances.

Performing Arts Camp - Jul. 31 - Aug. 11 (Ages 6-16 yrs.)

Limited enrollment on a first-come, first-served basis. In two short weeks, kids learn about theater, memorize roles and dances - and on Friday, August 11, put on an entire children’s opera. Working with theater professionals, this is an extraordinary opportunity for children who are interested in theater. This program is open to the general public. Full 10-day attendance is required.

Please note: Friday, August 11 we have the dress rehearsal at 10:00am, and performance that evening at 7:00am, the camp ends for all children at 3:30 on Friday. No childcare provided.

Pearl

an Underwater Adventure a Children’s Opera by Sanford Jones

Pearl is an underwater tale that takes place in Charleston, South Carolina. While playing with her friends by the river shore, Sirenia, daughter of the River Goddess, is kidnapped by the Sea Currents and taken to the Oyster King where he imprisons her in a shell. Grief-stricken by the loss of her daughter, Sirenia neglects her duties and the river begins to dry up. Pearl’s friends try to get the Oyster King to release her, but nothing seems to work. Finally the courageous Water Nymph braves the Sea Currents to rescue her friend and obtains her release through a clever plan.
