Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur s administration for using "state machinery to attack the Centre" during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests the federal cabinet voted in favour of imposing governor s rule in the province
The KP chief executive had been leading the PTI s protests seeking the release of its incarcerated former premier Khan and independence of judiciary on the frontline, which caused unrest in the federal capital and adjoining cities drawing criticism from the ruling coalition over the alleged use of state machinery
This recommendation was tabled by Federal Minister Amir Muqam, seeking strict action against the PTI, during the federal cabinet's session that was backed by a "majority of members"
It stated that the KP government gave a reason for the governor s rule by invading the Centre twice It also blamed the KP government for using state machinery and employees to "attack the Centre"
The Ministry of Law and the attorney general also gave their opinion to the cabinet members on the recommendations
The sources close to the federal government revealed on Thursday that a majority of cabinet members who met with a onepoint agenda a day ago backed the sug-
gestion to impose governor s rule in KP, accusing the province of allegedly patronising the major opposition party s protests against the coalition government
However the cabinet decided to consult coalition partners including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), as well as stakeholders like the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and the Awami National Party (ANP), before making a final decision
The development follows the conclusion of the Imran Khan-founded party s muchhyped do-or-die protest in Islamabad which ended abruptly with its top leaders and workers, including its incarcerated founder, booked in eight cases after two days of violent clashes with police
The charges against them include terrorism assault on police violation of Section 144 abduction and interference in government operations
Amid speculations of the governor's rule, the KP advocate general office "completed preparations for a legal response" to the federal government During a consultative session today the law officers collected verdicts related to the governor s rule to counter the expected decision from the Centre Additional Advocate General Inam
Yousafzai told Geo News that there was no reason to impose governor ’s rule in KP and vowed that the government would file a case in case of any illegal decision taken by the Centre "If a government with a public mandate
Another ter rorism case registered against PTI founder, Bushra Bibi, 75 other par ty leaders
is going in the right direction then what is the reason for the governor's rule?" questioned the law officer
"Everything is prepared," said Yousafzai claiming that the government was fully ready to challenge the decision in court
ANP rejects governor s rule
Meanwhile the ANP rejected the imposition of the governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), calling for meaningful dialogue between the former ruling party and the government to ease political tensions ANP spokesperson Ehsanullah Khan speaking on Geo News stated that such a measure is not a viable solution as it would expire after three months
He further noted that since the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) holds a majority in the KP Assembly the governor's rule would not have a significant impact Highlighting the alarming rise in politi-

According to the FIR Imran Khan allegedly incited protesters to march towards Islamabad on November 22 while Bushra Bibi s social media statement was seen as instigating party workers The suspects are accused of conspiring to block roads attacking police officers with sticks, slingshots, stones, and bricks Earlier, Imran Khan was booked in another case at Taxila police station following the death of a police constable and injuries to others during a violent confrontation near the Hakka Interchange The FIR, lodged on behalf of the police, names PTI founder Imran Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Salar Khan Kakar, and Shahid Khattak, among others The FIR includes charges under 14 sections of law including anti-terrorism clauses
Addressing a press conference in Quetta Achakzai demanded legal action against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad s Inspector General of Police, accusing them of violence against PTI workers
He criticised the continued imprisonment of PTI s founding leader despite his electoral victory urging his release on
According to the text the attackers were armed with tear gas guns, rubber bullet weapons, and other arms The accused allegedly assaulted the police with batons, rods, and stones, scattering the law enforcement officers The report also mentions that the attackers injured Constable Mubashir and abducted him in a red van Later, Mubashir was found abandoned under the Hakka Bridge and succumbed to his injuries despite being shifted to the hospital
Releasing him will not cause the sky to fall, Achakzai remarked He claimed that PTI workers were targeted with gunfire during peaceful protests at D-Chowk in Islamabad and demanded a transparent judicial probe into the matter PTI workers were shot in the head
Thousands of peaceful protesters were subjected to violence, the nationlist leader alleged Judicial accountability is necessary, he said, expressing disillusionment with state institutions and emphasizing the need for institutions to operate within their constitutional domains to alleviate the country s crises Achakzai also highlighted security issues in Balochistan, criticising the lack of

regarding the post of secretary general will be taken after holding consultations with the incarcerated party founder His statement came soon after reports emerged that Imran Khan had removed Barrister Gohar Ali Khan from the post of party chairman and nominated Asad Qaiser to replace him
Meanwhile PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja resigned from his position on Thursday, following continuous criticism of his leadership According to reports from Express News Raja’s resignation came after sustained pressure and dissatisfaction from within the party particularly regarding his handling of protests
Raja had been nominated for the position of PTI Secretary General following the resignation of former Secretary General Omar Ayub who officially stepped down on September 7 However despite his nomination by
In response to Raja s resignation PTI s senior leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan urged Raja to continue in his role, stressing that this was not the time to step down “People will continue to criticise, but you must keep working ” he stated urging Raja to remain steadfast in the face of criticism Party sources indicated that Raja faced criticism from several senior PTI leaders particularly regarding his leadership during the party s recent protests Some party members expressed dissatisfaction with his management of the situation especially during the Lahore protest where he had been tasked with leading the PTI convoy to Islamabad After the roadblocks were set up, Raja shifted the protest plan to Lahore, but was unable to mobilise sufficient party workers, which led to further criticism PTI leaders including Khan himself have come under fire after the protest at DChowk ended without the release of the party founder who remains incarcerated Since the authorities launched a sweeping operation to detain party protesters, hundreds of PTI workers have been arrested leading to heightened criticism of the party s current direction

TH E PTI’s now-or-never rally seems to have ended The party says that eight party workers were killed in the clashes that led to the clearing of D-chowk in Islamabad of protesters, and since it is not a military or armed organisation, it is calling off the protest However, KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur apparently begs to differ He says the protests are on, and will not be over till PTI founder Imran Khan says it is This he said though the Islamabad police claimed that it had cleared the city and arrested 954 people Mr Gandapur made this claim at a press conference on Wednesday, when he resurfaced after disappearing from D-Chowk before it was cleared by the police His disappearance at a crucial time was noticed as was that of some key leaders entirely Leaders from Punjab explained that the police presence was too heavy for any movement
There is a general head-scratching in PTI circles, and the development of a blame game is palpable The debate on the failure to move the rally to Sangjiani, and the rising clamour that Mr Gandapur and Mr Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, are to blame, is dangerous for Mr Khan, for while Mr Gandapur might not mean much to him, his wife is supposed to be like Caesar ’s, above suspicion, and thus any criticism of her, is taken as criticism of him However, from all the blame flying around, no plan of action is emerging Simply pretending the protest has not been crushed provides no guidance to the many supporters of the PTI Perhaps the original error was to say that this was a last call The PTI saddled itself with the need for an explanation in addition to deciding what to do next
That will be difficult to do There is the question of what to do about the May 9 attacks As D-Chowk was cleared, in Lahore an anti-terrorist court rejected Mr Khan’s bail applications in eight cases related to those attacks The government seems determined not to be gracious in victory, but to put the boot in Information Minister Ata Tarar has said that the protest was a missed call rather than a last call while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that something had to be done to prevent such further protests The government is in danger of falling into the same all-or-nothing which has brought the PTI to its present pass

However there is one
the PTI is not
revolutionary party It had previously achieved
by means of the ballot box Whether or not it received help from the establishment is irrelevant There are others who seek that sort of help, but have not got it Therefore, an overthrow of the entire system is not possible Indeed, it is not contemplated The purpose of the PTI rally was to force the establishment to talk to it to replace the present government by it; not to storm the battlements so to speak and seize the levers of power However one of the problems the PTI faces is that it is a status-quo party, though it wants to posture as a revolutionary party Its attempt at a coup on 9 May 2023 blew up in its face because of this Because it is a status-quo party, its supporters are willing to vote for it but not die for it After all it is because of what it promises in this life that its supporters are unwilling to die What it demands cannot really be achieved within the present legal and constitutional framework, not without recourse to the same methods that it decries The 26th Amendment cannot be rolled back without two-thirds majorities in Parliament Imran Khan cannot be released without at least bail from the courts hearing his cases Similarly all those in jail cannot be released unless the cases are withdrawn or bail is granted These demands imply a control by the executive, or even the establishment, over the judicial process, that many believe it does have, but which it is not supposed to Then there is the question of what the PTI is offering Clearly what it had provided before was insufficient The main problem seems to have been the economy or rather the IMF The PTI may not be a revolutionary party, but it is a populist one IMF conditionalities may have been harsh, but they are necessary unless one is ready to upend the entire system
The botch the PTI is supposed to have made of foreign relations is incredible The PTI narrative of US wishes does not seem to apply as the relationship with China was as rocky as that with Saudi Arabia though one was a US rival and the other a friend So what does the PTI have to offer that the PML(N) can’t provide? Any commitment to democ-
racy will not last Imran s oath-taking He has a track record just as much as Mian Nawaz does and it should be noted that Mian Nawaz has been kept out of office The establishment is not so clearly in control, but that may simply because it has learnt discretion Though it cannot be said that none followed Mian Nawaz back home from London the number of carpetbaggers and parachutists is also certainly less which is helpful in the opinion of the establishment The only plea seems to be that he is a nuisance, that he has no compunction about embarrassing the country in front of foreign visitors Or does he have a grading system, under which the SCO Summit merited a postponement but Belrus did not The narrative is confused The revelation by Imran s wife Bushra Bibi that his walking barefoot in Madina led to Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa being called and asked why someone had been brought bent on bringing the Shariah when the caller was bent on ending it in Saudi Arabia, is meant to fuel a narrative that promotes Imran as a champion of Islam That is apparently a good card to play for everyone has laid claim to it even Zulfikar Ali Bhutto through the OIC Summit and making Qadianis non-Muslims which lets the PPP claim to be both an Islamic party and a liberal The PPP s ideology is supposed to have been fathered by the likes of J A Rahim and Meraj Muhammad Khan, but it should not be forgotten that Bhutto was himself a very well-read man ‘Well-read’ is not the adjective that springs to mind when Imran is mentioned The PPP developed an ideology because of this Imran has had intellectual heavyweights like Ali Amin Gandpur and Bushra Bibi The role of those two has also been controversial Bushra Bibi has been blamed by the government for the breakdown
Lessons in leadership
Trather than arbitrary discretion Implementing technology such as GPS-enabled portals for serving notices or centralized data rooms to monitor case progress would also aid in alleviating systemic bottlenecks As judicial experts argue, such innovations could ensure a smoother and more transparent justice delivery process Delayed cases not only clog court dockets but also lead to justice deferred and often denied Incorporating mediation and alternative
dispute resolution (ADR) methods at the district level could significantly reduce the workload on courts Establishing ADR centers and revising domestic arbitration laws to minimize court interference are practical steps in this direction These measures have been successfully implemented in other jurisdictions and could serve as a model for Pakistan The International Commission of Jurists has long advocated for ADR mechanisms as a means to alleviate judicial burdens while providing timely resolution for litigants
The legal fraternity must also embrace reforms, including training in legal technology and adopting global best practices By doing so Pakistan’s judicial system could evolve into one that is accessible inclusive and efficient For example setting up smart research centers for lawyers and judges in remote districts could enhance case preparation and decision-making Human Rights Watch has emphasized the importance of such training programs to ensure that practitioners are equipped to navigate the challenges of a modernized judicial system While the pursuit of justice is a noble endeavor it should not come at the cost of sacrificing efficiency and productivity By addressing the systemic issues that plague our courts, we can ensure that the wheels of justice turn swiftly and smoothly It is time to reclaim the hours lost in legal limbo and channel them into building a system that truly serves its people

Deepfake technology: A growing threat in Pakistan
Th e we a p o n i z at i o n o f f a ke n u d e a n d b l a s p h e m o u s v i d e o s o f ce l e b r i t i e s
tion of harmful content
The accessibility of deepfake technology is a major factor in its widespread use
AVictims particularly celebrities and high-profile individuals often face public outrage severe emotional distress and in extreme cases, physical violence Law enforcement agencies and legal experts in the country are raising the alarm about the escalating weaponization of deepfake content which not only jeopardizes individual lives but also poses a broader threat to societal harmony and trust Addressing this crisis demands immediate legal reforms, public awareness campaigns, and technological innovation to curb the misuse of AI-powered tools
Globally deepfake technology is becoming increasingly prevalent particularly with the rise of platforms and tools to simplify its creation and distribution According to recent reports, over 96 percent of deepfake videos circulating online are pornographic, with celebrities the commonest victims By 2023 deepfake creation communities had grown to include over 609 000 each contributing to the prolifera-
Tools such as DeepNude which generate explicit content from basic facial images, have gained significant traction worldwide, making it easier for anyone to create fake, damaging material As a result, deepfake technology has become a weapon for cybercriminals disgruntled ex-partners and others who wish to exploit others for personal or political gain
Creating a deepfake video is surprisingly simple A 60-second fake video can be generated with as little as one image of the target taking only 25 minutes to produce The technology has become so accessible that minimal technical expertise is needed to create convincing deepfakes using free or low-cost software This democratization of the technology has resulted in its rapid spread, with more people engaging in the creation and distribution of fake videos often without considering the damage to others
While deepfake technology poses a threat worldwide its impact in Pakistan has been particularly damaging, with a surge in cases of fake explicit content and blasphemous videos circulating online The Federal Investigation Agency reported that in 2023 it received 1 180 complaints related to deepfakes and non-consensual intimate imagery These figures however likely represent only a fraction of the actual number of cases, as societal taboos surrounding digital
harassment prevent many victims from coming forward The lack of public awareness and support systems for victims means many individuals are unable to access justice or protection Women, especially those in the public eye, are disproportionately affected by deepfake attacks Prominent female celebrities, influencers and social media personalities are often the primary targets of fabricated explicit content In one high-profile case a well-known actress in Pakistan found herself at the centre of a scandal when a deepfake video featuring her was shared across multiple social media platforms The video, which depicted her in a compromising situation caused public outrage and led to the actress temporarily withdrawing from the media spotlight to escape the relentless online attacks The fear of becoming a target of deepfake harassment has created an atmosphere of unease, particularly among women, who feel increasingly vulnerable in the digital age The use of deepfake technology for blasphemous content is another worrying trend in Pakistan In a country where religion plays a central role in daily life, any content deemed offensive to religious sensibilities can spark violence Deepfake videos that depict religious figures in compromising or offensive situations are a tool used by extremists and individuals with malicious intentions to create social unrest These videos are often shared on platforms like WhatsApp, Twitter, and Facebook The
ease with which such content can be created and shared poses a direct threat to

Riley Keough recalls: Sometimes I d walk into my mom s room and find her sitting on the floor drunk listening to her father s music Dispatched to school after school the child whose parents could summon stars such as Elton John or John Travolta if she wanted, had no guidance and not much love Her coke habit was set while still at school, and she had sex – underage – with an older drug dealer who sold pictures of them together
Years later she told Riley how used she felt by that betrayal At 17 Lisa Marie met the man who might have turned her life around, charismatic, handsome bass player
Danny Keough
He was wary of her fame, she was besotted and determined, so made a plan to get pregnant and make him marry her It worked They tried to live what passed for a normal life and when Riley and then Ben arrived a kind of happiness seemed possible But Lisa Marie s demons were active
After six years she began a bizarre affair with Michael Jackson and married him as soon as shocked Keough divorced

SO U T H K O R E A’S plan to roll out the AI Digital Textbook system in 2025 has sparked some controversy It is an ambitious project and there s nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world But the boldness of the idea is matched by the intensity of the concerns it raises The sheer cost, the way it is being implemented as a national policy and whether AI will truly help or hurt education have left people divided and questioning its viability
The AIDT is not just another digital textbook Traditional digital textbooks are essentially scanned pages of printed books made for screens
The AIDT goes far beyond that with AI-powered features designed to offer personalized learning It acts like a digital tutor tracking students’ progress and tailoring content to their needs Advanced learners get more challenging materials while struggling students get extra support
In theory, the AIDT could help close achievement gaps in Korea s classrooms Hagwon have long been a crutch for families competing in the country’s high-pressure education system If public schools could deliver quality instruction through AIDT the pressure to use costly private tutoring might lessen giving students from less privileged backgrounds a fair shot That s the promise, though not everyone is sold on it One major concern is whether spending so much instructional time on digital devices will only disrupt good learning It’s a valid worry Research suggests that excessive digital dependence can erode attention spans and rid students of opportunities to process complex ideas and engage in
