ENRICH LIVES. BUILD COMMUNITY. INSPIRE JEWISH JOURNEYS. These seven words are the essence of our mission. Last year was our best yet at delivering on that mission. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Fiscal year 2014-2015 reaffirmed the many ways that the OFJCC enriches lives, builds community and inspires Jewish journeys.

YOUNG ADULTS

OFJCC LESLIE FAMILY PRESCHOOL

It has been an exciting year of professional, programmatic and strategic growth. All 60 teachers became fully certified ECE professionals. We developed a music program and new enrichment classes including cooking, art, yoga and woodworking. We have exciting plans to redesign our outdoor facilities so our children can reap the benefits of outdoor learning.

page 4

www.paloaltojcc.org

The inaugural year of ENGAJ (Engaging the Next Generation of Adult Jews) was a huge success, thanks to a generous grant from the South Peninsula Impact Grants Initiative of the Jewish Community Federation. This innovative peer networking initiative in collaboration with Hillel at Stanford enlisted the support of 20 influential fellows who ran monthly social, educational and tikkun olam programs.

CULTURAL ARTS

ADULTS

Our active senior community enjoyed lively events throughout the year. We broke attendance records at our Community Tuesdays concert series featuring impressive talent such as the Pacific Guitar Ensemble, Jaffa Road and the Fanny Ara Flamenco Ensemble. Senior excursions provide transportation to a variety of entertaining venues throughout the Bay Area and encourage senior adults to stay connected to the JCC community.

Our boutique Schultz Cultural Arts Hall welcomed major performers and speakers this year including The Manhattan Transfer, Ron Carter and Arturo Sandoval. Nearly 1,000 community members danced and sang along with the Maccabeats. Our Jewish Luminaries series featured Rabbi Joseph Telushkin and Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks in discussions concerning the future of Judaism.

SPORTS & WELLNESS

We launched “Journey to Success,” a wellness program designed to engage and assist new members on mindset, nutrition, movement and recovery. We have developed fitness programs for all levels to encourage members to embrace a healthier lifestyle. We are proud to have received the “Best Gym” award from Palo Alto Weekly for the fifth straight year!

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The Community Engagement department had a busy year, creating wonderfully innovative festivals for Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Hanukkah, Passover and Lag B’Omer. Our programming for families included activities in the Family Center, moms’ groups, family hikes, the eighth annual Mitzvah Day and our new yearround Mitzvah Corps!

Club J grew its innovative after-school program this year bringing 180 children to campus each day. A wide array of electives such as cartooning, ballet and wrestling gave kids the chance to explore and expand their interests. Due to demand, Club J will be expanding off-campus at the Sand Hill School. We truly put the cool in after-school!

TEENS

J-CAMP

J-Camp 2015 engaged nearly 900 campers with its wonderful staff and creative programming. New camp programs like Krav Maga, Jr. Masterchef and Kohavim—a wildly successful leadership program for middle school students—provided even more opportunities for campers to build community and lasting friendships.

Our teen program continues to engage teens with thoughtful, fun and fulfilling activities. This year, our talented teens painted a mural on the Goldman Teen Center wall, facilitated a community-wide service project, sent a delegation to the JCC Maccabi Games®, and built leadership skills through J-camp’s Counselor-in-Training program.

ISRAEL CULTURAL CONNECTION

The ICC@JCC helped orchestrate a 3,000-person Pro-Israel, Pro-Peace rally in San Francisco; developed a new Israeli Career Center; grew our popular Beged Kefet Hebrew Language School, now in three locations; and secured a generous grant to help elevate the Israel for Reel program.

WE MAKE SMILES HAPPEN A preschooler pulls a wagon with her giggling friend curled up inside. Two CITs share a laugh over the funny things their campers said that day. A table of seniors erupts in laughter at the luncheon speaker’s Yiddish joke. An Israeli mom smiles with joy as her daughter reads a story she wrote in Hebrew and the grammar is as perfect as if she’d studied in Tel Aviv. A group of teens laugh, cry and hug after a life-changing trip to Israel together. Jewish learning, friendship, culture, fun and engagement to those who

FULFILLING THE VISION The Fulfilling the Vision Campaign is a comprehensive fundraising initiative to help the Oshman Family JCC provide for programmatic support, reimagine our campus and reduce the debt that limits our potential. The Campaign seeks to enage donors to contribute $54 million to enrich lives, build community, and inspire Jewish journeys. As of September 30, 2015, 72 donors have contributed $23.7 million toward the Campaign.

PROGRAM SUPPORT

Whether you’re looking to connect with friends during Jewish holidays, provide your children with a first-class Early Childhood Education, develop a healthy workout routine or experience worldclass performances, the Oshman Family JCC has a calendar full of programs to meet our mission and serve the needs of our community and beyond. The OFJCC requires approximately $3M to supplement annual earned revenue to offer this programming.

page 12

www.paloaltojcc.org

CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS

We are constantly working to improve and maintain our state-of-the-art facilities so that we can provide a warm and welcoming environment and make needed upgrades to the health, safety and enjoyment of our community. This Campaign helps us to budget for capital expenditures required to sustain and enhance our facility.

SECURING OUR FUTURE

In order to open our Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life on time and on budget, it was necessary to take out loans to realize our community’s dream. It is now incumbent upon us to operate our JCC in a fiscally responsible manner, steadily paying down the debt as well as raising funds for operations.

HOW YOU CAN HELP Your financial support maintains the Oshman Family JCC as a vibrant center of Jewish life in Silicon Valley. Here are some of the ways you can help:
