About the Illustrations
Depictions of the OFJCC's future Pavilion & Park on the cover and the following pages were created by Sterling Illustration.
In about a year, there will be a brand new park and community space at the OFJCC! Thanks to generous gifts from our community, eight years after opening we can finally complete our campus master plan with a beautiful environment where we will gather and create connections. A gorgeous pavilion with indoor/outdoor options on two floors will provide additional rooms for events, meetings and classes. An open field, jogging track, fire pit and more will allow us to explore a whole new range of programming opportunities. Flip the page to take a closer look at our future venue for outdoor movie nights, holiday festivals, enrichment classes and much, much more.

The OFJCC Pavilion & Park When the project is complete, we will have a lush turf field with new landscaping and trees, a welcoming fire pit area, and a beautiful, multipurpose activity building. Imagine how transformative our new community commons will be!

UNFORGETTABLE PERFORMANCES This season, talent at the Schultz Cultural Arts Hall is unmatched. Iconic comedic actor Bill Murray will show off his singing prowess (and undoubtedly his wit and charm) as he takes the stage with distinguished cellist Jan Vogler for a spirited night of music and literature. See for yourself why trumpeter Avishai Cohen is one of the most talked-about jazz musicians on the contemporary scene, and enter the world of renowned cellist Amit Peled as he shares his personal, musical and spiritual journey.
FEED YOUR BRAIN Looking for some food for thought—or just thinking about food? Either way, we’ve got you covered. Find inspiration from author Zinzi Clemmons whose debut novel, What We Lose, has received high praise for its emotional exploration of loss, identity and relationships. Then switch gears to sweets as celebrity chef and New York Times bestselling cookbook author Yotam Ottolenghi takes the stage with pastry chef and co-author Helen Goh. Join us for a remarkable opportunity to hear from Holocaust survivor and leader of the fierce battle against NeoNazis in Skokie, Illinois, Ben Stern, after watching Near Normal Man, a powerful documentary about his life.
LIGHTS, BUBBLES, ACTION! Take family entertainment to the next level. With visuals that will delight parents and children alike, Lightwire Theater’s: Moon Mouse—A Space Odyssey uses jaw-dropping electroluminescent artistry, poignant storytelling and evocative music to tell the story of a bullied mouse who dreams of adventure. Bubble lovers shouldn’t miss Louis Pearl, the Amazing Bubble Man, who combines comedy, artistry and audience participation with spellbinding bubble tricks. Then finish off the year with YouTube a cappella sensation The Maccabeats for a lively Hanukkah concert.

Cultural arts programs are made possible in part through the generosity of the Koret Foundation, the Oshman Family, Randee Seiger, the Albert and Janet Schultz Supporting Foundation of the JCEF, and Bonnie and Marty Tenenbaum.

FIND TIME FOR YOU Have you ever wanted to join a choir, play the guitar or find time to read more? The OFJCC School for the Arts offers creative classes for all ages, and our friendly OFJCC Parents' Book Club gives you the chance to discuss literature while indulging in wine and chocolate. If you’re looking for a creative way to deepen your knowledge about Israel, try Israel for REEL, an innovative experience that uses media clips to prompt insightful discussions. Young Jewish professionals can learn about networking and social opportunities with one-on-one coffee ENGAJments plus great ENGAJ events.
DAYTIME INSPIRATION Every Tuesday, the OFJCC brings inspirational speakers and performers to entertain, educate and delight you. This fall, learn about Jews and the Nazi occupation of Greece with author Alan Fleishman who will discuss his newly released novel, Odyssey of Chaos. Learn about Franz Liszt: Rockstar, Playboy and Priest while pianist Louise Costigan-Kerns and mezzo-soprano Deborah Rosengaus demonstrate his virtuosic and romantic compositions. Delight in a Season Celebration of Hanukkah with friends, food and music by David Chernyavsky’s Klezmer Ensemble.

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME For Israelis new to the Bay Area, the ICC is an integral part of the transition process, bringing quality adult lecture series, cultural events and performances to the community. The Gvanim Leadership Program explores issues of Israeli-Jewish identity and deepens your relationship with local Jewish communities. Israeli-style holiday events give you a taste of home. Our Israeli Yom Kippur, for example, is a pluralistic, secular and cultural experience that connects people through text, song and prose. Conferences like Zionism 3.0 bring Israeli and American Jews together to question, discuss and debate the State of Israel.
THE PLACE FOR FAMILIES When you’re ready to start a family of your own and want to be sure your child is born into the exuberance of Israeli culture, Libi will be there for you—from pregnancy all the way through the first parenting years. And when your little one arrives, bring him or her to the ICC’s holiday events! Our joyous upcoming Rosh Hashanah Tashlich and Sukkot Celebration will be rich, meaningful experiences featuring music, food, friends and fun. There are opportunities for school-age children to learn Hebrew in an experiential, social-culturaleducational setting with our Beged Kefet Hebrew Language School, while Gvanim Raise the Bar enhances a sense of belonging for Israeli teens ages 12–13.

JEWISH HOLIDAYS Fall is holiday season at the OFJCC and we’re spreading the holiday cheer this year with several off-campus events. Let the beauty of Hidden Villa provide the backdrop for Rosh Hashanah in the Park. Build your own mini-sukkah as a family at our Sukkot Festival and join us for a festive Sukkot Shabbat Dinner featuring exceptional music to set the mood. Our Hanukkah Celebration returns to Stanford Shopping Center this year, so stop by, enjoy the party and sneak in some last minute gift shopping!
JEWISH REFLECTIONS The Jewish month of Elul, the month preceding the high holidays, is traditionally a time for personal reflection and spiritual preparation for the New Year. Throughout the month, we will enjoy spiritual and intellectual opportunities to learn, create, meditate and recharge. Our annual Zionism 3.0 conference follows on the heels of Sukkot this year, bringing yet another opportunity to reflect on difficult yet critical topics and explore our relationships with Israel.
JEWISH GENERATIONS When raising a family, traditions become more important for many people. They help us remember our ancestors, spend time together and create memories. Every other week, the Let’s Welcome Shabbat! Toddler Playgroup provides an opportunity to come together as a family, and as part of a larger, supportive community. Elementary-age children have a special learning opportunity with B’hootz, an outdoor education program we’re offering through a partnership with Wilderness Torah. B’hootz integrates nature-based exploration with Jewish spirituality, tradition and ethics.

LITTLE ONES WITH GREEN THUMBS The decision to include a community garden in our new park is partly due to the success of the OFJCC Leslie Family Preschool’s “Giving Garden.” The preschool garden gives children a hands-on understanding of values such as sustainability, healthy living, respect for all living things (creepy critters included) and compassion. We are dedicated to nurturing curiosity and creativity, growing community through Jewish values, and cultivating a love of lifelong learning.
BUILDING BONDS If the thought of parting with your littlest one for any amount of time gives you separation anxiety, Yad b’Yad (Hand in Hand) is for you. Our fun-filled parentchild program for ages 12–23 months is designed to encourage friendships and build a community rooted in Jewish values. For a more unstructured option, drop in at our fully stocked Family Center, filled with books, crafts, games and friends. It’s a great place for a play date! Check our website for hours.
ALTOGETHER NOW We love finding ways for families to spend time together. Our year-round Mitzvah Corps program teaches children the importance of giving back with hands-on community service projects. Now, with Mitzvah in a Box, you can bring projects home. Make it a weekend activity for the family or invite other children for a mitzvah party! Cooking is another great way to bring families together, and Together in the Kitchen, our family-friendly cooking series, will get even the pickiest young eaters excited about trying something new.

EXTRA CREDIT After school, children can travel back in time and replicate prehistoric cave art, modern abstract expressionism and everything in between. Art Throughout the Ages is one of many creative afterschool classes at the J. Additionally, the OFJCC School for the Arts has expanded its offerings to include painting and photography in addition to performing arts favorites like musical theatre, piano and ballet. For parents who want an extended afterschool program with a range of activities, Club J continues to grow in popularity with transportation from local schools and a satellite location at Sand Hill School.
KIDS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN Summer may be over, but J-Camp fun is not! Weeklong breaks and single days off school are just excuses to send your children back to camp. Boogie Down Mini Camp cranks up the grooves as we dance the day away, learning breaking, popping, the robot and more. Wizarding School Mini Camp is—you guessed it—a Harry Potter-themed three-day extravaganza of wand making, potion brewing and Quidditch playing.
GOING FOR THE GOLD(EN RULE) There is no time like the present to give middle and high school students hands-on opportunities to practice leadership, philanthropy and entrepreneurship. The OFJCC’s Youth Service Havurah helps deepen students’ connection to Judaism through social action. Eitanim is a projectbased leadership and entrepreneurship program that develops creativity, self-learning skills, teamwork skills and a connection to Israel through real world challenges.

Philanthropic Partners The OFJCC is proud to be a part of the Initiative on Jewish Peoplehood, co-funded by the Koret Foundation and the Taube Foundation for Jewish Life & Culture. Through this initiative, we present programs and celebrations that bring community together, travel and education programs that build connections to Israel and the heritage of the Diaspora communities, innovative classes and participatory experiences that elevate Jewish literacy and invigorate Jewish practice. The OFJCC believes that the ongoing vitality of the Jewish people lies in the richness of its communal life, the vibrancy and diversity of its cultural and spiritual expression and the shared experiences that inspire a sense of connectedness to Jews everywhere and in every generation.

PIAZZA’S FINE FOODS
Naturally Growing FAMILY OWNED SINCE 1946
Piazza's is an integral part of life on the Peninsula. John Piazza Sr. was our face to the Peninsula community for many years. He loved to feed everyone! Under his direction, Piazza’s Fine Foods has donated platters and gift certificates to various special interest groups in the communities around our stores. We continue this tradition today. The three Piazza sons, their families and store team members volunteer in various venues on the Peninsula. Employees are encouraged to be kind and respectful of all people and to lend a hand when it is appropriate. We are moving into the future embracing the high standards set by John Piazza Sr.
