Architectural Design Studio 1 [ARC 1115]

Project 1 Architectural Design Studio first project was all about discovering and defining one’s self through mask-making. The mask portrays the characteristics of the wearer.

Self Expression through Object : Revealing One Self’s Identity.

My mask is created using a self-intersecting technique in strips of thin foam sheets. Its flexibilty and intersecting strips represent my tendency to step into different sorts of live of various people and be ever flexible in such occasions. (sociable and flexible).

Project 2A Towards the second project, personal experiences in a built environment is expressed through the applications of understanding regarding space and form. A simple architectural space is then constructed using the right techniques, materials and structure.

Self Expression is An Architectural Space : An Architectural Space - From Form to Space.

In short, design ideas turns into practicality which are models. For this project, the concept of parametricism is chosen for the model designing and making.

Project 2B A 1:1 model is constructed in a group to allow the experiences of space and form to be known in reality.

Self Expression in An Architectural Space : From Form to Space - A Space to ‘Hide & Peep’.

The ‘Hide & Peep’ concept was to allow the grasping of the idea that a space doesn’t have to be completely in covering and a wall doesn’t have to be fully solid to be a wall.

Project 3 Design studio’s final project was an integrated project. The objective was to design a grafted space for a specific client in order to exhibit the understandings of spacial quality and basic architectural design principles which inform space, form and function. My client is a historian and the design concept that i have used is “stacking”. It started with a stack of books, in relation to a historian and other reasonings, then gradually evolving into my design model.

Project 3 Further butter paper sketches were done to show the external expression of the design model together with the site and the section of it.

Project 3 In the final intergrated project, rough sketches were first done on butter papers in order have a basic idea on what to start with and also as a source of inspiration. Measurements and researches were carried out to exhibit the basic architectural design principles which inform space, form and function.

My deisgn had to integrate the sitting area with the book-storing purposes. A lot of refinements were done to improve the design.

Project 3 The client is situated in Malacca. Site analysis were done to help understand the environment in Malacca and in finding a suitable area to graft the client personal space. My grafted space situated on a plain wall, elevated in an alley way. Reasons are shown to justified my choice of location.

Project 3 These are the study models and final model that I have came up with. It is refined by using balsa wood to construct my final modal to give it a smoother edge and to resemble the actual building material that I had proposed for it, which is reclaimed wood.

Design Communication [ARC 1713]

Project 1 Free Hand Sketches and Hatching Drawings : In the beginning of Design Communication, hand sketches were carried out to allow the understanding of notion of space in architecture, as to help develop visualization and expression skills through different perspectives. In a way, the sketches is a way of communicating your perceptions of buildings and spaces. Different hatching techniques were used to draw a specific picture with different tonal values in order to understand depths.

Project 2A Orthographic Drawing: Towards the next project, drafting skills are practiced in both modern and traditional methods of architectural drawing. With the suitable line weight and quality using pen and pencil, accurate and legible architectural informations, including precise architectural symbols are presented adequately.

Architecture Culture and History 1 [ARC 1313]

Gothic Architecture: For Architecture Culture and History, our assignment regarding extra researchings on the building that my group and I have chosen and the history of its architectural style.

Salisbury Cathedral

The buiding was Salisbury Cathedral which inherits the late Gothic architectural style, which protrays the usage of stained glass, spires, flying buttresses and vaults. A model of it was done in order to exhibit the depth of understanding regarding the Salisbury Cathedral and its details.

Building Materials [ARC 1512]

Project 1A & 1B Project 1A: My Home / My Room. First project of Building Material was regarding the basics of analyzing and identifying materials used to make the structures around. Simple terms of materiaks and a small ranged site are used for the moment. Upon the next project was regaring analysis of building materials in a larger ranged area. The chosen area was a restaurant called ‘Mantra’. A research was carried out in a group to identify the building materials used in the area. And the conclusion which came out was that the building materials used were mostly based on the functionality to improve visual properties of the customers while dining. The building materials used were also light and reasonable in price in order to bring conveniency in mobility and further refurbishment.

Project 2 The final project allows the exploration of various types of building materials and technology and the understandings of specific building materials and their properties. It is thus demonstrated by drawings that shows the architectural effects of the building materials.

Project 2: Material Specification- Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of Building Materials application and properties through materials specification or proposal for final studio project
