Steps to Brew Loose Leaf Tea 1. Heat water. If you will brew unoxidized or lightly oxidized tea, heat water to 185 degrees. For brewing tea that is heavily oxidized, boil the water. 2. Get the teaware. It can be a yixing teapot, glass teapot, or porcelain teapot. A pint glass can also be used. 3. Put the tea leaves in your teaware. Generally, you will need one teaspoon of tea leaves per serving. 4. Pour the heated water into the teaware. 5. Wait for the tea to infuse. This usually takes 2 to 3 minutes. Infuse the tea longer for every succeeding infusion. 6. Remove the leaves. This step is optional. You can leave the tea leaves in the teaware if you want to.

For best tasting tea, use filtered water. You can also use bottle water. Just make sure that it is not distilled. You can infuse tea leaves several times. Each infusion produces a different flavor and releases more nutrients. Do not infuse green, white, and yellow tea leaves more than four times. Do not infuse black and scented tea leaves more than five times. You can infuse oolong and pu-erh tea leaves more than five times.
 
Leave some water in the teaware if you will re-infuse the tea leaves. This gives the next infusion a stronger flavor. Infuse in a tall glass if you want to see what happens during infusion. By using a tall glass, you will see when the color of the water changes and when some of the leaves float on the water.
