Yup, it’s that time of year again, when we give you something to look forward to and tickle your fancy with what we’ve lined up in Pangdemonium’s upcoming Season! Our 2016 Season of Love hit you with three stories – The Effect, Falling and Rent - examining love in its many splendored forms. Looking ahead to 2017, we decided that we wanted to free ourselves from having a theme to our Season. We just wanted to share more ass-kicking stories with you. So for our highly anticipated 2017 SEASON - with the continued support of our wonderful Patron Sponsor OUE - we’ve put together three productions that are wildly diverse in style, genre and subject matter. We’ve got the hilarious, hair-raising black comedy/psychological thriller THE PILLOWMAN, the world premiere of an exciting new play TANGO, and the critically acclaimed, award-winning musical FUN HOME. We then realized that all three stories are bound together as a triptych by a unifying theme – Family (And Other Natural Disasters). They are, if you will, distant relatives in an extended family. THE PILLOWMAN examines an “unusual family” that is the stuff of nightmares; TANGO provocatively presents a real-life predicament facing a real-life “modern family”; and FUN HOME chronicles one woman’s struggle to fit into, and also free herself from, her highly “dysfunctional family”. A thrilling threesome of eclectic and electrifying stories, with all the heart, soul, blood & guts, and much, much more, that audiences love about our work.

In order to accommodate increasing demand for our productions, 2017 is the first year we’re staging all three shows in our Season in 600-plus-seater theatres, enabling us to welcome more of you into our Season Ticket family. As an “extra-curricular activity”, we are proud to be part of Singapore International Festival of Arts 2017, with yet another world premiere of a spanking new production - so new that it doesn’t have a title yet! We’ll be conducting our annual “Triple Threats” and “Stage Write” workshops, to nurture aspiring theatre practitioners. We’re looking forward to partying with our Season Ticket holders at our annual Pow Wow. And we’re fiendishly plotting for our 2017 FUNdRaising Party… Phew!

A writer of short stories is being questioned by the police regarding a series of child murders. What do his stories have to do with the gruesome deaths? As the interrogation escalates, terrifying tales are told, buried bogeymen are resurrected, and it becomes impossible to distinguish fact from fiction. Tango World Premiere Inspired by true events, TANGO was commissioned by Pangdemonium as our very first staging of a piece of new Singapore writing and we are thrilled to be producing the world premiere of this special play. Happily married Singapore-born banker Kenneth and British teacher Liam are the loving adoptive parents of 12-year-old Caspian, a boy saved from an abusive home. Together, they are making life work as a family in idyllic suburban England. When Kenneth reluctantly returns to Singapore to care for his ailing father, an insidious incident triggers a butterfly effect that escalates into epic proportions. As a tsunami of secrets, skeletons and sequins comes cascading out of the closet, this motley family is thrown into a typhoon of trials, tirades and turmoil that threatens to tear them apart. In the eye of this storm is young Caspian, learning the hard way about the true meaning of “family values”. Acclaimed Singaporean playwright Joel Tan (The Way We Go, Mosaic, Café) has created a modern tale about fathers and sons that asks urgent and provocative questions about love, acceptance, compassion, tradition, and the infuriating complexities of family.
