Argentina da inicio a la Era del Cobre

La cotización de los commodities mineros se encuentran en franco ascenso: valores record no registrados en más de una década indica el potencial inicio de un nuevo súper ciclo de minerales y metales como el experimentado a inicios de este milenio.

Ha transcurrido un año del inicio de una pesadilla de la cual ningún país –salvo muy contadas excepcionesquedó exento: la pandemia COVID19 Algunas jurisdicciones pudieron sortear rápidamente este escenario, y otras se debaten en la búsqueda de paliativos para contener un escenario complejo Los primeros meses de 2020 planteaban un gran interrogante. Más allá de la relevancia de la cuestión sanitaria, flotaban algunas dudas ¿Se avecinaba una crisis económica mundial? ¿De qué manera una recesión podría afectar al sector minero?

La pandemia comenzó en China. Luego de un trimestre plagado de incertidumbre respecto a la evolución económica del país más poblado del planeta, con el consiguiente impacto en la demanda de materias primas, el segundo semestre fue testigo de una vertiginosa recuperación del motor económico mundial. En una misma sintonía, aunque sin el mismo vértigo, la Unión Europea y EE UU empezaron a mostrar signos de que sus economías volvían a calentar motores Si se observa en retrospectiva, y más allá de que el COVID19 todavía no ha sido vencido, la macroeconomía global ha estado muy lejos de una situación catastrófica; algunos analistas informan que el escenario ha sido más positivo de lo que se podría haber pensado

La apuesta por la electromovilidad ha sido uno de los vectores del impulso económico Con el objetivo de disminuir la demanda de hidrocarburos, el mundo trabaja camino hacia un futuro donde metales como el cobre, sumado a otros elementos estratégicos como litio, cobalto, níquel, jugarán un rol decisivo. Esta carrera no es algo menor En EE UU la administración Biden ha dejado en claro que la apuesta por la electromovilidad es una política de estado. La principal economía del mundo y la

Unión Europea ya han oficializado importantes políticas de estímulos económicos para avanzar en el campo de la electromovilidad, en un importante compromiso por las energías verdes

Argentina puede participar, y muy activamente, en la arena minera mundial El subsuelo argentino es uno de los más prolíficos para el descubrimiento de metales preciosos y metales base, sumado al caso extraordinario del litio. Las nuevas tecnologías permitirán alumbrar depósitos de otros minerales, permitiendo avanzar con tierras raras, cobalto, vanadio, y níquel, actores claves en el mundo de la electromovilidad.

El futuro minero de Argentina es mucho más que promisorio Del gran avance que se percibe para el futuro cercano, el cobre es el buque insignia Con media docena de pórfidos de cobre, algunos de ellos entre los principales sin desarrollar a escala planetaria, Argentina está camino a iniciar la nueva Era del Cobre: en la provincia de Catamarca, la integración de Agua Rica y las instalaciones de Bajo la Alumbrera ha permitido alumbrar en el proyecto integrado MARA. Mientras tanto, en la provincia de San Juan, la presentación del Estudio de Impacto Ambiental del proyecto Josemaría significa otro paso trascendental para una Argentina cuprífera

On a same chord, a l t h o u g h n o t a t t h e s a m e h e c t i c p a c e , t h e E u r o p e a n Union and USA started to show signs that their economies were already warming up engines again. Looking back, and aside from the fact that COVID19 has not been b e a t e n y e t , g l o b a l m a c r o e c o n o m i c s h a s r e m a i n e d f a r from a melt down; some analysts report that the environment has been more positive than anyone could have expected.

The hopes placed on electromobility have been one of the drivers of a new economic dynamism For the purp o s e o f r e d u c i n g h y d r o c a r b o n d e m a n d , t h e w o r l d i s working towards a future where metals like copper, plus other strategic elements including lithium, cobalt, and nickel, will play a decisive role This is no minor race In USA, the Biden administration has made clear that their b e t o n e l e c t r o m o b i l i t y i s a s t a t e p o l i c y S o , t h e m a i n w o r l d e c o n o m y a n d t h e E u r o p e a n U n i o n h a v e t h u s m a d e o ffi c i a l i m p o r t a n t e c o n o m i c s t i m u l u s p o l i c i e s t o advance in the field of electromobility, which has also been testament to their commitment to green energies

Argentina is posed to play a role, and a very active one, in the world's mining arena The Argentinean subsoil is one of the most prolific for the discovery of precious metals and base metals, to which we can add the extraordinary case of lithium New technologies will allow to uncover other mineral deposits and t o advance with rare earths, cobalt, vanadium, and nickel, all of which are key actors in the world of electromobility.

The Argentinean mining future is much more than promising In the great progress anticipated for the near future, copper is the flagship With half a dozen copper porphyry projects, some of them the main ones without development at planet scale, Argentina is on the road to initiating the new Copper Era: in Catamarca, the combination of Agua Rica with the Bajo la Alumbrera facilities has given birth to the integrated MARA project At the same time, in San Juan, the presentation of the Env i r o n m e n t a l I m p a c t S t u d y f o r t h e J o s e m a r i a p r o j e c t marks a new transcendental landmark towards a copper producing Argentina.
