Pulse Nightclub Observance
Saturday, June 11 300 Block of North Main, Downtown Bloomington Photos by Justin Hurt Prairie Pride Coalition, the Bistro and McLean County Moms Demand Action Against Gun Violence are co-sponsors of this event that memorializes the people who died at the 2016 Pulse Nightclub shootings in Orlando. This outdoor observance included the reading of the 49 victim names, performances and words of reflection. Attendees stood in the street on chalk-drawn hearts and held signs with names of the people lost on June 12, 2016, when a shooter entered the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando and produced the deadliest incident in the history of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community. Fifty-three additional people were injured that evening in an act that also targeted the Latinx community.

Presented by the McLean County Museum of History Wednesday, June 15 ISU Brown Ballroom, Normal Photos by Carlos T. Miranda The guests of honor at the 2022 History Makers Gala have poured themselves into the community, but they recognized they weren’t alone in their endeavors to give back. Deanna Frautschi, Alan Bedell, Myra Gordon and George Gordon received the distinction Wednesday night and were honored along with those who had been quietly recognized during a virtual ceremony last year: Carole and Jerry Ringer, Marilyn and Bob Sutherland and Barbara Stuart. Tom Eder, president of the McLean County Museum of History Board of Directors, called the four honorees the sort of people one can look to as “an example of the highest use of our lives.”
