FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT FROM CURRENT REFRIGERATION METHOS? Current refrigeration methods are made with gases that change their phase and temperature easily, but because of their extreme temperatures, these gases are very corrosive to the ozone layer. The method consists in taking out of the cabine the heat of the refrigeration gas and this is why fridges are warm on their backs. Moreover, by using a compressor, the state of the gas can change to liquid, and therefore its temperature decreases. This part of the system is located inside of the refrigerator in order to transfer the cold inside.

IS IT MAGIC? No, it is a natural phenomenon occurring in a controlled manner, but it’s a surprising and amazing bionanotechnology!

PseudoFreeze uses a totally different method, a passive refrigeration system in which the temperature of the fridge is used to cool the things inside by using the heat exchange principle. This method has always existed but was not so efficient because the durability of the regular ice was too short. As PseudoFreeze ice gains heat very slowly, it is possible to think of maintaining goods below 8ºC using the heat exchange principle of PseudoFreeze, since it lasts up to 72 hours cold without additional energy.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PSEUDOFREEZE ICE AND REGULAR ICE? PseudoFreeze Ice can be produced using a refrigerator (4ºC - 2ºC), regular ice needs a freezer (-14ºC - 18ºC). Under the same conditions, a volume of PseudFreeze ice will remain in solid-state almost twice as long as normal ice.

BUT, WHERE DOES THE HEAT GO? We use a method in which we don’t have to take out heat to create ice. As we provide the conditions that the ice-nucleating proteins need to elevate the freezing point of water, this means that water could transform into ice (solid-state) without being in a freezer, by contrast, it could be transformed in a refrigerator.

IS PSEUDOFREEZE’S BACTERIA A BIONANOTECHNOLOGY?

CAN I REUSE IT TO CREATE ICE? HOW MANY TIMES?

CAN I BUY PSEUDOFREEZE NOW?

No, we don’t use the bacteria, we use only it’s protein.

Yes, you can reuse it four times.

To be announced... but soon!

HOW LONG DOES OUR TECHNOLOGY LAST COLD TEMPERATURES?

IS IT FREE FROM ENERGY CONSUMPTION?

IS IT POSSIBLE FREEZE WATER AT 4˚C?

Under the same conditions, Pseudofreeze bionanotechnology will take almost twice as long as regular ice to melt. It means that PseudoFreeze’s ice can last an hour, comparing it with regular ice that only lasts 25 minutes. When PseudoFreeze bionanotechnology is used in the right geometry and insulating materials, as in PseudoFreeze’s Portable fridge, the ice can last up to 3 days.

No, we freeze at 4ºC, meaning that cold temperature is needed as a starting point.

Yes, since we use INA proteins, one of the most efficient ice nucleators, which also elevate the regular freezing point of water. We use these proteins and immobilize them into nano surfaces, and by using this process, the proteins become more resilient to resist higher temperatures and organize H2O molecules together at 4˚C, creating ice crystals till it solidifies.

WHY IS PSEUDOFREEZE A SUISTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY? PseudoFreeze bionanocompound is created with natural resources as the Ice Nucleation Active (INA proteins). Best of all, energy consumption is lowered by approximately 80%, as less amount of energy is needed to reach freezing point, and the ice can last up to 3 days without any other external energy.

CAN IT BE EATEN? COULD I USE IT TO COOL MY DRINKS? No, you can’t. Our technology contains bacteria protein that hasn’t been reported as edible. However, when the fluid is properly encapsulated you can use it in spirits, soft drinks, water you name it!

WHY ARE OUR PRODUCTS SUSTAINABLE? The PseudoFreeze portable fridge uses mycelium styrofoam as insulating material, which is biodegradable.

BioCold Technologies S.A.S

PseudoFreeze can save energy consumption significantly, because less energy is needed to create ice. This ice is more resilient and can last longer, as it has a higher melting point and its water molecules are better organized.
