The MaZwane Foundation has donated food, clothing and blankets to Kaalfontein’s victims of fire. The items were generously donated in support of the victims of the Kaalfontein fire tragedy. All donations were collected at all Imbizo Shisanyama outlets.

MaZwane and Bishop Makhubo, a leader of the Tembisa Transformation Forum were present when donations were distributed to those most vulnerable in our community.

Founded on the 11th of November 2019, the foundation is led by business leader, Rita Phumlaphi Zwane, under the direction of powerhouse figures such as Dr Thandi Nkosi who is Deputy Chair, Develd Monyai, Thando Zwane, Anne Booyse and Ntombezinhle Mhlongo.

The organisation was established with the vision to create a platform for young upcoming entrepreneurs in the township. While the organisation’s primary focus is to inspire, empower and educate young people and women in its surrounding community, MaZwane’s vision is that the organisation will inspire, educate and empower South Africa’s future leaders in all townships around the country. Furthermore since its inception it is clear that the foundation is quickly transforming into a vehicle that will see the creation of the first ever world-class Skills Development and Entrepreneurship College right in the middle of the township

“Given the current economic climate, creating a platform for our young entrepreneurs is essential in creating a vibrant healthy legacy for future generations to come. The MaZwane Foundation is passionate about inspiring, educating and empowering the young people and women in our surrounding community. As we now face the second Winter under the Covid-19 pandemic, let us remember that Umuntu Umuntu Ngumuntu!” said MaZwane.

Passionate about inspiring and mentoring the youth and women’s empowerment, Rita Zwane has over the last two decades become a beacon of hope in her community. Driven by the entrepreneurial African spirit, Rita has actively supported dozens of young people and women in the Greater Tembisa communities, to further their studies in pursuit of their dreams. In 2012 Rita was appointed as a NYDA Youth Ambassador and later that

Tshepang receives winter clothes

Raphael Dhlamini, MOF member, leads the donation of clothes to Tshepang Day Care Centre in Vusimuzi.

By Samkelo Sibiya

Tshepang Day Care Centre, in Vusimuzi receives donations from the Mkhabela Obedience Foundation after their successful winter drive campaign and donates to the underprivileged.

The donation was mainly winter clothes collected through social media campaigns.

The donations ranged from girls’ shoes to boys’ clothing. Raphael Dhlamini made the donations on behalf of MOF and the response was overwhelming.

He said the organisation had a connection with Tshepang Day Care last year in 2020 with a number of visits to the centre done since then.

“This centre remains close to our hearts as it is one the centres if not the only centre that caters for the people in Vusimuzi squatter camps.”

“They cater for children from marginalized areas, they provide feeding schemes which is not always enough hence we meet them halfway with the donations.

“Most of the staff is still in good condition, even teenage boys from the community can benefit as well,” he said.

Tshepang Day Care founder Sarah Sibiya has always welcomed donations. The centre continues to face financial difficulties.

Sibiya said they would encourage more people to continue helping their organisation.

“Due to Covid-19 the situation has worsened, we continue the feeding scheme but on a different basis now,” said Sibiya.

The centre continues to care for the kids of its community, within its premises it also features a library which is used for all educational purposes.

For donations to the centre please contact Sarah Sibiya at 0827203732 and follow MOF on Facebook.

By Samkelo Sibiya

Tx Theatre in association with PEU Arts Foundation hosted the Ward 13 theatre play at Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre. According to Writer and director of the play, Koketjo Tesh Waga Mashedi, the play addresses social issues neglected in the daily struggles of life.

Mashedi said the play was a thought provoking piece of new work which aims at healing a part of the society that doesn’t even know the depth of their hurt.

“It takes us on a journey of a couple struggling to be “present” in their child’s relationship.

“It’s a piece presented and narrated with care because of its emotional nature with a bit of humour to reflect on our abnormal psychological battles of our realities based on our environments,” said Mashedi.

The play has been played even in some of the biggests theatres. Besides being on stage performing, PEU Arts Foundation continues to nurture talent.

Mashedi said they have Saturday classes at Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre where they train young people to become performers.

“This goes beyond that, we also help them find sponsors and gigs, this includes a registration fee of R300 that will cover other costs like getting the Zcard,” said Mashedi.

Residents to receive an SMS for second dose of Pfizer vaccine

by Staff Writer

With almost a month since the City launched the COVID-19 vaccine rollout on 17 May 2021, healthcare workers and residents who are 60 years and older are reminded of their second dose.

“The second dose of the Pfizer vaccine will now be given at 6 weeks (42 Days) after the first dose rather than 3 weeks (21 Days).

We urge the City’s citizens to await a Short Message Service (SMS) which will alert them when they are due to receive their second doze,” said MMC for Health and Social Services

Cllr Nomadlozi Nkosi.

The MMC further encouraged residents to continue observing the COVID-19 regulations and adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions.

Nkosi stated that compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions remains vital in minimising the impact of the third wave and reducing transmission.

The MMC further stated that this could be done through simple behavioural changes such as: • The proper wearing of masks when in contact with other people • Masks should cover both the nose and mouth • Maintaining a physical distance of at least 1.5 metres • Washing of hands frequently using soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser.

Government intensifies efforts to deal with illicit cable syndicates

by Dumisani Hlatswayo

Government will be intensifying efforts to deal with cable theft. This follows an alarming increase of cases of infrastructure theft and vandalism in schools and in the rail network across the country. Responding to oral questions in the National Council of Provinces on Thursday,

President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government is working towards intensifying the efforts of law enforcement agencies to tackle the scourge of illicit cable syndicates.

“We are working to intensify efforts of law enforcement agencies but also working alongside entities like PRASA to uncover illicit cable syndicates and scrap metal dealers in possession of stolen material.

“The success of these efforts depends on the partnership with communities as we all have the responsibility to care for our infrastructure and through these efforts, we hope that we will be able to restore our infrastructure to a state of good health,” he announced.

The President had been asked if the government had undertaken an audit to assess if there was any theft of damage to infrastructure during the lockdown period, and also asked if there was a plan to restore or repair the vandalised infrastructure.

There are over 1700 schools across the country that were vandalised. Out of these, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Gauteng were the worst affected.

Ramaphosa said Metrorail experienced an alarming increase in cases of infrastructure theft and vandalism ranging from overhead electrical lines, electrical sub-stations, train stations and depot substations in Soweto.

“These incidents of theft have a huge impact on the mobility of commuters, who depend on the affordable Metro Rail services to access economic opportunities in major urban areas.

“Public infrastructure is vital to the lives as well as the livelihoods of South Africans and it is also vital to advancing the interests of our people. It also helps the country achieve its developmental goals.”
