1 Very rare antique Mount Washington tri-colored rose bouquet and millefiori butterflies magnum paperweight. A petite pink butterfly and her larger blue companion, their wings made of pulled complex millefiori around central yellow bodies, alight in amorous synchronicity onto an aventurine-veiled rose. The flower consists of shaded cobalt blue and white petals, serrated at the tip, which cascade in a dimensional furled center, from an aventurine stamen core, down to a fully splayed halo of outer petals. The large bloom rises on a leafy stem and is flanked by emerging buds in red and white, to create a bouquet of patriotic colors. Four large variegated leaves crown the bouquet. Clear ground. 2 Extremely rare antique Pantin pink rose and bud paperweight. A dimensional and realistic dew-covered rose has several layers of cascading light pink petals, carefully sheathing a detailed yellow center. A pink bud sprouts next to the rose, still blanketed by translucent green sepals, amidst a halo of several leaves in varied styles and shades of green. Gathered stems support the delightful bloom and create a perfectly arranged bouquet, which contrasts against a smooth opaque white disc ground. For similar examples, see L.H. 3 Antique Baccarat 1848 scattered millefiori and Gridel silhouettes on blue carpet ground paperweight. A central salmon-pink, blue, green and white arrowhead cane is surrounded by an assortment of complex millefiori, including the Gridel silhouette canes of a dog, a deer, a butterfly, a goat and a swan, which are scattered on a lush carpet of cobalt blue and white six-point star canes. 4 Antique Bacchus close packed millefiori paperweight. Ruffle, cog, star and honeycomb canes, in salmon-pink, cobalt, emerald green, mint green and white, with accents of yellow and purple, are gathered and drawn to an extremely fine size, inside a border ring of green-cored white cogs that is pulled downward into a stave basket. Pictured and discussed on page 49 of Old English Paperweights. “The majority of the canes are well known cogs and ruffles, but a very rare honeycomb cane can be seen with careful viewing.” Appeared in L.H. 5 Antique Bacchus spaced concentric millefiori on sodden snow paperweight. A large red and white ruffle cane, with a white collar, is surrounded by loosely placed spaced concentric rings of brightly colored millefiori, in blues, red, yellow and green, all set within a white sodden snow ground. 6 Very rare antique Saint Louis patterned millefiori and dancing devils carpet ground paperweight. A pair of rare dancing devil silhouette canes, the canes facing one another, is surrounded by a ring of red and white floret and cog complex canes. They center an intricate interlocking star arrangement, formed by a ring of blue cogs and pink cross canes, inside a ring of white floret and 28-point cog canes, spaced by pink, green and blue complex canes. Six loops of green bull’s-eyes and pink cross canes depart from the center and are surrounded by a border garland of large white, green and blue complex cog canes, giving a white carpet appearance. “A third [Saint Louis devil silhouette cane], without a doubt the rarest of our trio and certainly a most curious apparition, appears to be invoking a curse on anyone who would wander into his domain.” —The Glass Menagerie: a Study of Silhouette Canes in Antique Paperweights. 7 Rare antique Saint Louis close concentric millefiori, dancing couple silhouette cane and signature cane paperweight. A white cog cane contains the silhouette of two dancers and centers a ring of outwardly flared red, white and blue complex canes, inside a ring of rare nine-cell honeycomb and cog complex canes. Three more concentric rings ensue, one of large green and white-collared floret canes, one of hollow tube and pink cross, where a signature cane resides, and one of cobalt blue and green complex canes. The rings form a cambered cushion and sit in a pistachio-colored cog stave basket. Excellent condition. Diameter 2 15/16" $4,000—6,000 8
8 Antique Clichy interlaced millefiori quatrefoil garlands paperweight. A quatrefoil garland of green and white pastry molds interlaces with a quatrefoil garland of white floret canes alternating with seventeen iconic pink and green rose canes. Their center void is occupied by a close concentric design of pink pastry molds and white floret rod bundles, around a large central translucent cobalt blue cog. At the heart of the cog, a flower pattern of green bull’s-eyes and white florets as pointed petals surround a central yellow bull’s-eye stamen. Opaque blue ground. Fine condition and internal flaw. A red and white primrose, with honeycomb center cane, is flanked by two Type I pansies and crested by a white double clematis with a white stardust and yellow bull’s-eye cane. 10 Rare antique Baccarat stylized cruciform floral bouquet footed faceted paperweight. Four small millefiori blossoms, their stamens and petals made of six-pointed stars, arrows and cogs, bloom on the left side of four green stems, strewn with dew-covered leaves, that are arranged into a cruciform, the extremities of each are dotted by a red bud or, in one instance, a partially opened blue bud with a millefiori stamen. The stems are gathered together at the center by an upward spiraling green twist that conceals a fragment of blue and white latticinio at its core. The design floats over a clear, star-cut, footed ground that is bordered by a lovely and tightly wound white-encased pink torsade. Six and one facets. Diameter 3 5/16" $4,000—6,000
11 Very rare antique New England Glass Company sheaf of flowers and fruit on swirling latticinio magnum paperweight. A pair of large double clematis flowers in white and mauve, is bordered by two smaller clematis flowers in yellow and blue, two red apples, a pair of blushing yellow pears and a large red clematis bud, on a bed of finely variegated green leaves. The arrangement stretches across a white double-swirl latticinio ground. “These superb magnum three dimensional floral paperweights are among the masterpieces produced by the New England Glass Company artisans. As far as we know, no duplicates exist and it is believed that these were special order pieces given to important personages... 12 Rare antique Baccarat close packed millefiori and Gridel silhouette cane with coral torsade paperweight. A tightly packed mushroom of iconic Baccarat millefiori, including honeycomb, rod bundle, leaf, shamrock, quatrefoil, trefoil, arrowhead canes and more, in bold red, green, blue with the occasional accent of white, purple and yellow, conceals a pair of white love bird in its drawn-down stem. An uncommon coral-colored and white torsade, with two mercury rings, encircles the base of the stem, over a clear, star-cut ground. 13 Uncommon antique Baccarat close concentric millefiori mushroom paperweight. Centering a shamrock complex cane, a ring of seven arrowhead canes explodes outwards over a ring of white and red stardust canes, which usually appear in iconic Baccarat carpet ground designs, and a ring of pink hollow tubes and green whorl flower canes. The cascade of concentric rings sits on a ring of whorl and stars canes, pulled downward into a white stave stem. A blue and white torsade frames the mushroom, over a clear, star-cut ground. Rod bundle, collared floret, cog, tic-tac-toe and star canes are gathered tightly into a mushroom cap and pulled downward into a colorful stem, predominantly in pink, green, white and blue. 15 Antique Clichy close concentric millefiori and roses stave basket paperweight. Eight iconic lush pink and green rose canes alternate with purple cogs to form a ring that is the third in a series of six concentric rings of complex ruffle canes, in green, blue and red, and white edelweiss canes. 16 Extremely rare, possibly unique, antique Saint Louis clematis bouquet on jasper ground paperweight. Four clematis blossoms, each with a purple match-head center and five variegated amber petals, peek through large serrated green leaves, which are joined at the stem to form a unique bouquet. 17 Extremely rare Baccarat Type I white bellflowers paperweight. Three bellflowers, each with three white petals and three green sepals, hang gracefully from green stems and are framed by leaves that grow from above and below. Clear, star-cut ground. “One of the rarest of flowers from Baccarat...Seven Type I bellflower weights are known...” —Baccarat Paperweights: Two Centuries of Beauty. The bellflower is an important flower in mythology, from the Roman goddess Venus looking-glass legend to Gothic fairy lore. 18 Rare antique Clichy blue camellia paperweight. A large shaded-blue flower has a yellow, pink and green crimped millefiori center, surrounded by multiple radiating layers of cascading petals, which are stamped with a faint waffle pattern. Three crimped green leaves continue the petals descent at the perimeter of the cambered bloom, over a clear ground. The attribution of this design is based on the resemblance of the flowers and leaves to those found in certain plaque weights, which also contain more commonly found Clichy blossoms. “Although camellias have been tentatively ascribed to Clichy, their place of origin is still questionable. 19 Antique Clichy pink flower, bud and leaves paperweight. A light pink flower, its two alternating tiers of six petals each, conjoined by a dusty rose nexus, rises from a short straight green stem, flanked by pairs of smooth leaves on either side. 20 Very rare antique Clichy pink flower miniature paperweight. A pink fantasy flower has, impressively, two tiers of ten shaded petals, radiating around a large unusual complex cane, made of nine double six-pointed white crimped canes with a red nexus. The bloom sits atop a short stem flanked by two leaves, with two more leaves below and a crown of three leaves on its crest. A pink bud, with green sepals, often seen with less complex clematis designs, peers from behind the crown. Clear ground. A central circlet of red and white pastry molds, centered by a large arrowhead cane, is surrounded by three circlets of complex red and white cog canes spaced by three circlets of complex green and white ruffle canes. Each circlet is centered by a complex cane composed of a central red fortress cane, a ring of seven green shamrocks and a ring of yellow bull’s-eyes. White upset muslin ground. 25 Antique Baccarat lavender clematis and millefiori garland paperweight. Two tiers of ribbed purple petals are centered by a star honeycomb cane. The resulting bloom sits atop a jauntily curved stem, flanked by two green leaves, and is crowned by a tightly sheathed red bud as well as four spaced and veined green leaves. 26 Uncommon antique Baccarat Type II pansy faceted paperweight. Two notched deep purple petals top a trio of yellow petals, rimmed in cobalt blue and spaced in a fan-blade pattern, around a central red bull’s-eye and star complex cane. The uncommon flower blooms on a short curved stem with a halo of veined green leaves, multiplied by all-over geometric faceting. 27 Unusual unidentified antique millefiori butterfly and flowers paperweight. A butterfly sports four complex millefiori wings, each composed of flattened and stretched lavender cogs with pink stardust centers, around a dark green body, with two yellow eyes and two blue antennae. It hovers over a pair of millefiori flowers, each with a different stardust center surrounded by the same white crimp cane with brown and green interiors and a ring of small white rods. The blooms share a forking stem, flanked by translucent dark green leaves. Translucent cobalt blue cushion ground. A network of beautiful pistachio green latticinio canes is arranged in a traditional chequer pattern, its voids filled with colorful and varied complex canes. The green latticinio is supported by a cushion of white upset muslin. “Somewhat rarer are those weights whose separations are gauze cables in sherbet pink, aquamarine, powder blue, and pistachio green.” —The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights, page 130. 29 Unusual antique Clichy looped millefiori and roses garland knopf paperweight. A five-loop garland is made from five assorted cane types and colors, including eleven white roses, eleven lush pink and green roses, pastry molds and cogs. A large pink pastry mold cane fills the center void of the garland, while contrasting complex canes in white, pink and green, including a large iconic rose, fill the void between the loops. If you fail to contact us or if we are unable to reach you, you may be relinquishing your opportunity to raise your bid. If you are the last under bidder on a lot, L.H. Selman Ltd. in some cases will notify you of a 72-hour deadline to raise your bid above the high bidder’s bid. If you fail to act or respond, L.H. Selman Ltd., at its sole discretion reserves the right to cancel your bids and award lots to other bidders.

Bidding Process Your bid is a contract to purchase the lot at the hammer price, plus commission. Each bidder must be high bidder on at least one lot at all times during the auction. All lots will be sold at one increment over the second highest bidder. Bidding will continue until all under bidders have indicated that they no longer wish to bid, the high bidder will win the lot if their bid exceeds the reserve price (see Reserves). Bids may be raised until the lot is declared closed and the winner determined. In the case of tie bids, the earliest bid received will be the high bidder. Help us complete the auction in a timely fashion by informing us of which lots you wish to drop. L.H. Selman Ltd. reserves the right to settle any disputes, determine bids, terminate accounts, remove and edit content, determine winners or cancel auctions at their sole discretion.

Payment Successful bidders will be invoiced for the total amount due at the auction’s close. Successful bidders must pay a 20% commission on the hammer price of each item, plus applicable tax and shipping fees. Unsuccessful bidders will not be contacted. Payment is due on receipt of invoice; after 15 days a 2% per month penalty on monies owed will be charged. We accept check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, digital wallet and bank transfer payments. All checks must be drawn from U.S. banks. Payments submitted via credit card over $5,000 will incur a convenience fee of 2%. Payments via PayPal will incur a convenience fee of 5%. Multiple payment methods may be submitted with permission under these circumstances. Purchases will not be shipped to the buyer until the full price has been paid.
Shipping Domestic items are shipped at a charge of $15 for the first paperweight and $5 for each additional paperweight in the same shipment. Signature is required for delivery. For shipments outside the United States, the cost will be $35 plus $5 for each additional weight. Price of shipping/insurance for oversized items will vary according to size and weight. Alternate shipping methods may be available, if desired.
Return Policy
Upon the close of each lot, purchase is understood to be final. The buyer must notify L.H. Selman Ltd. of any discrepancy within 48 hours of receipt.
