3. Extremely rare, possibly unique, antique Bacchus “mirror-image” close packed millefiori glass inkwell, with an identical pattern of millefiori in the base and in the matching stopper, composed of assorted crimped rods and complex canes, encircled by a ring of blue-lined, white, crimped tubes. The base and stopper were perhaps made from the same complex cane- a very unusual tehnique. The clear bottle has a tapered neck, a flared rim, and a clear footed base. Unpolished pontil. Some surface wear, small bruise in side of stopper. Height 6 1/4". $12,000-20,000 4. Rare Antique Baccarat dated red and white stardust carpet ground paperweight, containing a “B 1848” signature/date cane, and assorted scattered complex millefiori, including a red flower portrait cane, and Gridel silhouette canes of a horse, a deer, a rooster, a goat, an elephant, two dogs, and two butterflies, nestled in a ground of red-centered white six-pointed stars. Rare Antique Baccarat dated blue and white star carpet ground paperweight, containing a “B 1848” signature/date cane, and assorted scattered complex millefiori, including shamrocks, arrows, quatrefoils, and stars, as well as Gridel silhouette canes of a butterfly, a deer, a rooster, a goat, and a dog, all embedded in a ground of cobalt blue and white six-pointed star/bundled rod canes. Nice Antique Baccarat concentric millefiori mushroom paperweight, with a central stardust/bull’s-eye complex cane, in red and white, encircled by four concentric rings of complex canes, including one ring of red rose and green leaf portrait canes. The border is composed of cobalt blue, red, and white complex canes, which are pulled down to form the mushrooms stem. The design also contains a cobalt blue spiral-encased white latticinio torsade, which is bordered by two thin air ring inclusions, over clear star-cut ground. Diameter 3 1/8". $2300-3300 10. Excellent Antique Clichy looped millefiori garland on color ground paperweight, containing a five-loop garland, with each loop and its linking end composed of a different type and color of complex millefiori. The design includes a white and green complex cane center, and five spaced canes, two of which are white roses, resting between the garlands loops, on an opaque dark red ground. Unusual Antique Clichy white rose and millefiori on moss ground paperweight, with a central white and green rose cane, encircled by a ring of purple cog canes, on a ground of green moss canes, which is decorated with two spaced rings of pink and white canes, within a green and white stave basket. The garland is composed of white, blue, and red complex cog canes, which alternate with white star/red rose canes. The piece is finished with two rings of circular side facets. Unusual Antique Saint Louis miniature seven-color crown paperweight, with a complex cane centered on radiat­ ing curved twists and latticinio rods, which come together at the base of the piece. The twists include colorful combinations of red and green, red and blue, and pistachio and blue, which alternate with spiraling latticinio, in red and white, yellow and white, blue and white, and plain white. The piece includes a slightly irregular ring of eighteen pink and green roses, as well as a border garland of assorted complex canes, on clear ground. The ring of canes around the border alternate between pink cog/red and blue flower canes, blue-collared pink bulls-eye canes, and red, blue, and white blue complex flower canes, each with a tiny pink rose center. Paul Jokelson Scholarship Fund In view of Paul’s monumental contribution to the field of paperweights, his family and the International Paperweight Society Foundation have set up a scholarship fund in his memory to continue his lifelong legacy of promoting the art of the paperweight.
