Welcome
On behalf of the Ontario Charolais Association, I would like to invite everyone involved in the great Charolais breed to the 2016 National Show and Sale at the prestigious Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. This year the Ontario board wanted to try something a bit different from years previous and host a video sale in the gorgeous ballroom at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre (Fountainblu Events Room). With anything new there will always be questions and challenges to overcome, but I am here to tell you that the excellent breeders from across the nation have stepped up to make this sale one to be remembered. We have something for everyone’s program. There will be front-end heifer calves, cornerstone bred heifers, picks of herds, semen and embryos. I would like to thank the breeders who had the confidence to consign their very best. Please mark November 4 on your calendars because it will be a “Not To Be Missed” event for the Charolais breed! FLUSH Selling 5 embryos out of PZC TR Desirae 012 to the bull of the buyer’s choice
PZC TR Desirae 012 Only to be part of the Canadian National Sale in Ontario would we ever consider selling embryos from the 2015 Agribition Supreme Champion Female, PZC TR Desirae 012. This female is one of the most decorated show females our breed has ever seen. In addition, her offspring are already carrying on in her winning tradition as two of her daughters were just named Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion females at the CCYA National Conference Show held in Olds, AB, in July. ML Desirae 422B was the heifer calf on her side when she was Grand Champion Female at Agribition in 2014 and CML Desirae 558C was the heifer calf on her side when she was Supreme Champion and Grand Champion Charolais Female at Agribition in 2015. The flush will be done at Davis-Rairdan Embryo in December 2016 and McLeod Livestock will pay all flush expenses. The buyer will be responsible for supplying the semen for the flush, or they can use any McLeod Livestock herdsire at no additional cost. Sires available from McLeod Livestock include CML Distinction 318A, Gerrard Pastor 35Z, MVY All Shock Up 18C, CML Heisman 413B, CML Touchdown 414B, CML Gunslinger 410B, CML Exacta 514C. McLeod Livestock will keep all embryos over five. McLeod Livestock will guarantee a minimum of two pregnancies if the work is done at DRI and the embryos are put into DRI recips. We already have recips reserved for implanting so that the resulting calves will be born in January 2018. If the buyer uses recips from DRI, the buyer would be responsible for the cost of implanting the five embryos and would purchase only the recips that have confirmed 60-day pregnancies. Show Record: 2015 Agribition Supreme Champion Female 2015 Agribition Grand Champion Charolais Female 2014 Agribition Grand Champion Charolais Female 2014 and 2015 BOSS Show Female of the Year

We are pleased to offer your choice of 5 frozen embryos out of CSS Lady Rain 32R and Silverstream Evolution E168 or JWX Downtown 7C. Take your pick! 32R is one of our most consistent producing females at Wilgenbusch Charolais. She is moderate in her structure, feminine fronted and sound uddered. She raised JWX Domino 23Z, who was our leadoff bull in our 2013 bull sale that sold to KAYR Charolais, as well as a high-selling heifer calf, JWX Cameo 23C, to Elder Charolais from our Volume I Female Sale last December.
JWX Downtown 7C
The Evolution daughters have impressed us with their easy fleshing ability, phenomenal udder type and sound structure. They are standouts in our heifer pen and we are confident their outcross pedigree has the potential to bring something unique and exciting to any breeding program. We also flushed 32R to our high-selling lead-off bull from our 2016 sale, JWX Downtown 7C. We feel this mating could be very successful. 7C himself exhibits phenomenal depth of rib and overall body mass. 32R has been everything we expect in a female and has certainly earned her spot as a donor in our flush program. PREGNANT RECIPIENT LOT 4
SVY Starstruck 8X x Silverstream Geddes G102
SALE FEATURE! Medonte Charolais is offering a pregnant recipient carrying a Silverstream Geddes x SVY Starstruck 8X embryo. These opportunities only come along for special events and the 2016 National sale is such an event. The SVY Starstruck 8X cow is a two-time winner of the Supreme at Agribition. No other female, any breed, can claim such an achievement. The show strings of Serhienko, McAvoy, Michelson, and Medonte are typically stacked with Starstruck progeny and for good reason... they are just flat out good. Medonte now has five 8X daughters in the herd and we love them all. A flush in 8X sold for $14,000 to Elder & Wilgenbusch in the fall of 2012 and McCaw Livestock purchased a recip carrying an 8X embryo for $7,000 in the 2014 UTA sale. The 8X progeny have also been high sellers anytime they’ve been made available. A Firewater heifer calf sold for $20,000 to Lynn Jones, OK. Another Firewater heifer calf sold for $11,000 to Wilgenbusch in the 2013 Sterling sale. A Zeus son sold in Elder’s 2015 bull sale for $28,500 to Polzin Cattle Co, MN, and Elders are currently walking a good Pastor son. The Geddes bull, sire of the embryo, saw his first crop hit the ground in 2015 and they were very well received. The high selling bull in Canada in 2015, SOS Chuckwagon 54C, was sired by Geddes. The recip carrying this embryo is a 4-year-old Red Angus that has done a great job raising her previous 3 calves. Take advantage of the opportunity at hand. The resulting heifer calf or bull calf could take your breeding program to a whole new level! PICK—of the bred heifers at Dudgeon-Snobelen Land & Cattle
Only in a special event like the National Charolais Sale would an opportunity like this be offered. Dudgeon-Snobelen (WSS) is among the top of the breed for quality. If you are about maternal strength and foundation females then take a serious look here. Wanda is all about her cow families and takes pride in every animal she and Sam raise. Although they have sold a few females privately, this will be the first time in years that they will part with one at public auction! You don’t have to look very far back to see the success this program has had. In 2014 they bred the First Lady Classic Charolais Champion and later that week the same heifer was slapped Reserve Champion Female at Agribition. You will have the opportunity to select from 30 bred heifers that are sired by the very walking bulls that make this herd great. They are AI bred to MVY Xplorer or to their calving ease heifer bull. On her sire side Rollin Acres Zip 12B was high seller in our bull sale and then went on to win Supreme bull at Barrie Fair and Champion Charolais bull at the Royal Winter Fair, as well as many local fairs in between. So, to sum HDT 37D up! Focusing on feet, udders, style, and do-ability you have the chance to tour over 60 females and be the first to select from our 2016 crop. You can select from cow families that have created the foundation of our breeding program. This is the opportunity to take a piece of our program and put it to work in your own operation. We look forward to your visit. Cedardale Charolais cow families have produced impactful bulls like Zeal, Tyrant, Winchester, Rebel, Yellowstone and Abracadabra. LOT 13 PICK—of the 2016 bull calves at Stephen Charolais We are excited to have been asked to consign to the National Charolais Sale. This year we decided to consign a pick from our 2016 Full French bull calves. In different past sales we have consigned females and did very well with them; the females have been sold to purebred breeders across Canada and into the United States. We typically have around 25 Full French bull calves which includes a couple of half French bull calves and in the past few years our pens have been always emptied, selling to commercial breeders and purebred breeders across Canada. I try to build my bulls for what works for myself and as I listen to my customers for what kind of bulls work for their herds. We also calve out 375 Simm/Red Angus cows starting at the end of January; I have made sales due to this. I don’t try to tell people what I think they need to hear; rather, I tell them to come out and see for themselves. I show them my commercial calves and then they know why I use Full French bulls. I use a variety of AI sires out of France plus I have my own home-raised herd sires that I use on my Full French females. I also have the commercial cows to back them up. The pick of a bull has to be made no later than February 1, 2017. Plus A.I. bulls from France: • Andalou • Falcon • Farouk • Voilier

Right from the top of our 2016 calf crop and our show string pair, this heifer calf packs a lot of punch. She is a full helping of stout with a side order of style, served up in a moderate frame. She’s out of a top milking, naturally thick two-year-old momma from the Saunders operation who was a show heifer herself, so you know this is no accident— it’s good genetics at work! Sparrows Barlow has left his mark at Cornerview, producing a group of very nice females for us—stylish and fault-free with depth and growth. You can anticipate some great progeny out of Darby down the road and have some fun with her in the meantime. This girl has a temperament you’ll appreciate too. She is the complete package and a wise investment in your future.

When Chester and Brad came and selected for the sale they asked which cow she was out of and they said that’s what they want one to look like. We feel this is our best heifer calf this year and our loss is going to be your gain. Daisy was our daughter’s 4-H calf this year and has disposition second to none. So if you’re looking for a 4-H project for next year or an open show contender bid with confidence. The Firestruck have given us a lot of enjoyment and ribbons! Blackbern Whirlwind 15W Whiskey Lullaby is one of the prettiest and most structurally correct females we have raised to date. Her maternal sister sold in the Ante sale, so you know she comes from a cow family that really works. There have been very few Distinction daughters offered for sale and it’s not easy to let go of one that I absolutely love. We’ve worked with her all summer and fall in our show string and it’s been a pleasure. She’s the first one all of my wash rack helpers reach for simply because of her personality. Smooth fronted, deep ribbed, good bone structure and incredibly pretty all in one package. Here’s one that’s sure to be the life of the party and the girl everyone will want to take home at the end of the dance. Ron Kletzel was involved with Charolais from a very early age. His grandfather purchased the first purebred bull that Rudiger Charolais sold in the fall of 1960. They purchased their first females from Michaelis Ranch in Texas in 1961 as well as the first purebred female sold in the first consignment sale in Canada from Rodney James. His family imported one bull and two females in the first French importation and over the years imported four bulls and eight females from France. Ron, whose farm name was Char-Ron Charolais from Denzil, Saskatchewan, had the 1977 Agribition Grand Champion Bull and the 1980 Grand Champion Female, both sired by their own herd sires. He successfully showed his own cattle at shows like the World Show, Agribition and Denver, as well as sticking cattle for other breeders at shows including the Toronto Royal, Denver, Houston and more. He was one of the first Canadians to be placed on the American Charolais judging list. Ron is retired and living in Edmonton. He was an art dealer for many years and is now donating his remaining prints to different organizations that he can help out. 23
