This year, the celebration took place on February 11 at the Paradise Elks Lodge. Positive I and The Beauty of Motion

Christina Burton demonstrates aerial yoga at Positive I. Kaia Coaches Support & Motivate Owner/Kaia Coach Laura Gilmore began her fitness journey in 2011, describing herself as sedentary, lethargic and unhealthy. A girlfriend begged her to come with her try out Kaia Fit. Through Kaia, Laura lost over 30 lbs., many inches, gained energy and “saved her life,” running her first 1/2 marathon in 2012. Believing in Kaia and wanting to share it, Laura applied to be a new owner and opened a second outlet in Paradise 6 months ago. According to Laura, “I think one of the reasons Kaia is so successful is that we are woman only; it is a safe environment where we all share and feel the

same things without any judgement. Kaia is unique program that brings together the most determined, supportive, caring, and vibrant women I have ever met! As a coach I get to mentor and encourage these amazing women as they cultivate their success in their health and wellness journey.” Kaia workouts are all-inclusive, for one monthly cost --from stretching, cardio, strength, dancing, running, and from body weight to weighted exercises- anyone can be on the Kaia team and receive nutritional support. Age, fitness level, and health goals do not hinder your growth with Kaia. All coaches are nationally certified, with personal training in a group atmosphere without an additional fee or contract.

Christina Burton opened Positive-I after graduating from Massage school after college. She discovered the importance and power of health, fitness, massage therapy, dance, circus activities, love and throwing parties. Positive-I focusses on bringing joy and health to the body, mind and spirit. Christina wants to share the beauty of love and wellness with others and bring a cultural center to the town she lives in and cherishes, Paradise. Every class performed at Positive-I encourages self love, confidence, individuality and the power of friendship in a loving, positive family atmosphere; offering classes in belly dance, hip hop, aerial yoga, hula hooping, poi, ballet barre, partner acrobatics, juggling & creative dance.

Repair, LifeHOUSE Cypress, and M&S Wesley Tree Service. Generous donations from local businesses, as well as the baking skills of our Board of Directors, helped to offset the cost of the event. Silent auction donors, too numerous to mention, provided everything from gift certificates to soap to not only showcase the bounty of Paradise but to offset the cost of the event.

Building Community By Monica Nolan Executive Director, Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce

During 2015, your Chamber worked on the following goals: 1. Grow and sustain membership to 300 2. Develop resources to increase opportunities for growth 3. Increase chamber staffing levels to better serve our members. Immediate past president Shannon Hurte, Edward Jones Investments, led the charge to educate our community about the many benefits of Chamber membership, and our membership now stands at 299. Please join and help put us over the top! Increased sponsorship support helped us to develop resources, which is directly related to goal #3. We began the year by employing Alexis Ayers, a temporary worker from Gitman & Associates, now employed at Ace Hardware. This year, we are working on response and relevance; please see our goals in the president’s message on the facing page. Our vision is to develop a self-sustaining volunteer unit of committed, community minded citizens, or Apple Corps. These good apples will help operate the visitors’ center, furnishing the Welcome Mat to the Ridge at the gateway to Paradise. Call us if you love your Town and love to show it off, have a pleasant phone manner and can Google. We are also in need of volunteers to help staff Party in the Park and Johnny Appleseed Days. To increase ROI to our members, we need to assess their needs, so look for a survey in the coming months. “Explore Butte County,” the Tourism Business Improvement District formed in late 2015, will help put Paradise on the map, and your Chamber plans to leverage relationships and local talent to showcase out beautiful mountain home. Our Board of Directors will be reaching into the business community to support our members, and also to ask for support. Please help us build community by communicating your needs.

In 2015, Your Chamber • Welcomed 37 new members • Posted 856 events on Paradise Chamber.com, the Ridge’s resource for events • Increased staffing to better serve our members • Put $64,180 in Ridge Bucks into the community • Hosted 74,777 page views from 98 countries on ParadiseChamber.com • Distributed 25,000 Ridge Business Journals • Hosted 32 Ribbon Cuttings • Supported the formation of Explore Butte County • Launched Membership 101: Navigating Your Chamber • Distributed 20,000 Visitor and Relocation Guides • In cooperation with the Town of Paradise and community stakeholders, supported the revitalization of “Destination Downtown” and helped launch a street banner program. • Launched a Kids’ Zone at Party in the Park • To increase awareness and local spending, redesigned “Ridge Bucks” gift certificate program. Sales are already up! • Secured sponsorships from TV, radio, cinema and outdoor advertising to welcome record crowds to Johnny Appleseed Days It is with great pleasure that I introduce our final accomplishment: the hiring of an Events and Membership Coordinator. Please help us to welcome Mark Thorp to our team of professionals dedicated to building community.

Making it Work! Mark Thorp Membership and Events Coordinator Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce Work being the operative word here. Beginning February 1, 2016, I’ve been afforded the opportunity to engage our local business community as a representative of the Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce; an honor and a privilege. After having been employed by the Leavenworth, Washington, and Oroville, California, Chambers of Commerce, I finally find myself home. Home to experience all the wonderful attributes I’ve talked about for so many years, to so many people, in so many places. I began my employment and educational careers here in Paradise in 1983, shortly after leaving the United States Army. I married the love of my life at Paradise Lake and raised two wonderful children right here on the Ridge. I’d been employed by California Vocations, Youth for Change, and had built a solid foundation for myself and my family. And then it happened…. In 2005 my wife and I purchased a turn-key business in Leavenworth, Washington, and began our adventure into sole proprietorship with a small school and office supply store in the middle of Washington State. For seven years we ran from work, to mixers, to events, and did everything we could to build a successful small-town business. We succeeded, but couldn’t withstand the economic downturn of the great recession. We fought hard, made many sacrifices, but finally called it quits when called back to Paradise for a family illness. My time in self-employment and a marvelous stint with the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce had come to an end. In 2013, I began work with the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce. Working in Oroville didn’t deter my love for the Ridge, as I continued to engage as a volunteer with the Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce. I now find myself with a greater opportunity – to work for you. I’m finally, truly home.

Business of the Year Award

for service to the Paradise Ridge Community and contribution to the economy of the Paradise Ridge: A Stitch Above Embroidery & Shirt Printing Steve and Lori Crowder really LIVE in Paradise. They hit the ground running and have never stopped—supporting not only the Chamber, but other organizations such as the Town of Paradise and Paradise Rotary. Their “cooler” custom products help to put Paradise on the map and promote our beautiful mountain home, and their exemplary products and service bring business from off the Ridge. Steve and Lori fell in love with Paradise 10 years ago and knew that is where they wanted to make their home. When they came to Paradise from Nevada City about three years ago, they intended to to buy a home but ended up opening a business instead. They are in it for the long-haul, purchasing their building one year ago. Steve and Lori had owned a successful glass business in the bay area for over 20 years, and they use same philosophy in Paradise: Excellent customer service, a helpful attitude, a good quality product at a fair price and community involvement are their top priorities. Visit A Stitch Above at 6345 Skyway and you will be greeted not only by Steve and Lori, but Heidi and Harley, shop schnauzers. Enter as customers and leave as friends—that is how A Stitch Above was built.

Alice Smith Award

for sustained service to the Paradise Ridge community: Sherry Swim Sherry has been the owner of PIP Printing and Marketing Services at 597 Pearson Road for 35 years, perhaps a record for small business owners in Paradise. Her passions are children and veterans. From the first days of PIP, she sponsored youth soccer and Little League and supported youth ballet and music programs. As a ticket outlet for all Paradise events, she attended any and all community events and provided financial support , time and labor. As a military brat and wife of Major Charles Swim, Sherry is unflagging in her honor and support of veterans. You will find her up before dawn placing the flags along Skyway to recognize patriotic holidays. Over the years, she has provided employment for many Paradisians. She volunteered at Saint Thomas More School. Sherry is a huge proponent of shopping local, and jumps at the chance to recommend local businesses. Sherry has also served on the Chamber Board of Directors. All this passion has culminated in her current position as President of the Board and Queen Mum of the Paradise Chocolate Fest, where proceeds benefit nonprofit organizations that provide educational, enrichment, recreation and leadership opportunities to youth on the Paradise Ridge. Sherry is a long-time member of Rotary Club of Paradise and currently serves as Club Secretary. Sherry also supports the Lion’s Club’s Eyeglass donation program, serves as a contributor and volunteer driver in support of A Simple Gesture food delivery program, and is a mentor and judge at Paradise High School for Senior Projects.

Special Recognition award

Special Recognition award for promoting the Arts in Paradise: Sandy Miller

Frank has always had a community attitude. In his business, Dodini Voice and Music, he engaged with his students, helping fostering their talent and performance skills. Frank has also been very involved in local civic events such as Johnny Appleseed, Gold Nugget Days, and talent shows. Along with Sandy Miller, Frank has coordinated the entertainment for Johnny Appleseed Days, ensuring not only top-notch performances, but managing the infrastructure such as stage, sound, and logistics. “Sandini Productions” is a dedicated, high-quality outfit showcasing Paradise pride and creativity. Frank approaches both his professional and volunteer work with a high standard of perfection for the performer and a keen sense of awareness for the au d i e n c e . F r a n k is the driving force t h a t makes an excellent performance, and doesn’t settle for second best. Frank has been a huge promoter of the Ridge. Memorably, he built a miniice rink in his studio for the 2013 “Paradise On Ice” Holiday Merchant Decorating Contest.

Sandy Miller, in cooperation with Frank Dodini, has been indispensable in coordinating the entertainment for Johnny Appleseed Days. For the past several years, the state’s oldest harvest festival has showcased local talent thanks to the efforts of Sandy and Frank. Sandy has served as emcee for the hometown pageant style entertainment. Sandy is generous with her talent in several arenas on the Ridge: she is a Teacher’s aide for Paradise Elementary School and Paradise High Musical Production, a Board member for Strings in Schools, a Friends Benefiting the Ridge member, a dancer with Feather River Cloggers, and a certified Kindermusik teacher. She’s been in many past Gold Nugget Days Melodramas, and was Grand Marshall for Gold Nugget Days. She competed in the “Dancing with our Stars” event and ran for Chocolate Fest Queen one year, and has emceed at the Chocolate Fest. In the past she’s been involved in Theatre on the Ridge and the Paradise Ridge Senior Center, and is deserving of recognition for her many hours of volunteer service. Says Sandy: “What a good feeling it is to live in a community with abundant opportunities to serve and do good and feel good about it and then be praised and honored for it. With a grateful heart, I thank you!”

Ed Salome Award

for sustained service to the Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce Don Vance A past Chamber Board member, Rite Aid Magalia Manager Don Vance has been instrumental in securing Rite Aid pie pavilion sponsorships for Johnny Appleseed, decorating the space with festive fall flair. He can be seen all over the event, whether it’s helping to inoculate the crowd against the flu, or distributing apples and making emergency ice cream runs. Don has also helped to secure the plates and utensils for Johnny these past few years, providing much budget relief to the bottom line. Don also helps at Party in the Park, and his unfailingly pleasant disposition and humor make him a welcome and joyful addition to the festivities. According to co-worker Phil Cisneros, “Don has that characteristic that is not had by all. It’s not about selling the next best seasonal item or ice cream. It’s called CARING. Because of Don, I’ve been dressed as an ice cream cone, worked in five Rite Aids in the area, learned a great new career in pharmacy, dressed like Johnny Appleseed. Don cares about the community and its people. The community as a whole is a better place because of this man.”

Real Estate Professionals started participating in Chamber Christmas decorating contests in 1998 and haven’t missed one yet, always trying to follow the theme given by the chamber. Their biggest challenge was Jingle Bell Rock, and they feel their biggest success was 2014’s creative interpretation of Country Christmas. Real Pro chose to showcase Christmas as it is celebrated in different countries. They had the most fun with Santa Claus is Coming to Town, with Santa in various conveyances: a plane, train, hot air balloon, on a bike, in a sleigh. Real Estate Professionals Barbara Torres and Sue Soeth have enjoyed participating but admit it has been a lot of work, still working full time and decorating into the wee hours of the morning. They did all the decorating themselves except the outdoor lighting and amazing window painting by Larry ‘Santa’ Foss who did an outstanding job capturing their vision.

To a standing ovation, Vickie Perez, a local banker with 30 + years of service at Wells Fargo Bank was honored for her dedication and support of community service. Her list of accomplishments are numerous, almost endless. Vickie has served this community through the following roles: Girl Scout Leader, Chamber Board member, Paradise Irrigation District board member, mentor of senior projects ranging from Spanish language and cultural efforts to Chocolate Queen advisor, supporter of community events for ARC, Youth for Change, Enloe Hospital and Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Golf Tournament volunteer , Feather River Health Foundation board member (for 19 years), Rotarian in every way possible, including leading the annual Crab Feed fundraiser and raising more than $20,000 in net profit this year; serving on the board multiple terms of service, and a past president of the Rotary Club of Paradise. Vickie has also volunteered as advisor with Rotary Interact, traveling with youth for multiple events. Vickie thanked the community for providing opportunities for her to do what she loves: stay active, foster youth, and share her many skills.

A Ridge resident for fifiteen years, and owner of Heavenscent Candles and More, Nicki Jones opened Bobbi’s Boutique at 6181 Skyway to fill the void left by the closing of Buttons and Bows. ojourner’s House on the Ridge (SHOR) has a new location, new mission and new hours. Located in the Abbey of the Paradise Lutheran Church at 780 Luther Drive off Skyway, SHOR is a community-based organization providing support and services to the Ridge’s homeless and at-risk population. SHOR is currently open Monday through Friday from 12pm to 4pm. SHOR now provides a year-round support center for all Ridge residents who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless and who are seeking to get out of the weather. Snacks and coffee, hygiene items, blankets and winter items, business services (computer, phone, fax and mail), case management to connect with area services (Job Seekers/Employment Development Dept., Behavioral Health, Veteran Services), discount ID vouchers, and housing services to assist with transitional and permanent housing are available. SHOR also provides transportation to/from local social services as well as the County’s emergency shelter. SHOR hopes soon to extend its hours, offer basic hygienic facilities (showers and laundry), and provide mentoring, job search and work-training programs. “We are excited to be able to help far more residents than we could with our winter shelter,” said Stephanie Gregorio, SHOR’s Director. “We are now able to provide more in-depth services in order to reach our ultimate goal of providing solutions and support which allow individuals

and families to move into permanent housing.” “Over the past several years the Paradise Ridge Family Resource Center (PRFRC), a program of Youth for Change, has worked at filling the needs of our community by providing daytime services to needy families, children and individuals, “ said Kelley Doty, Director of PRFRC. “Our funding sources are primarily aimed at supporting the youth and families so we are excited that SHOR has opened their support center to further meet the needs of all homeless persons on the Ridge and allow both organizations to be more mission focused to better serve the Community.” “The Family Resource Center referred SHOR as a resource to many clients who are homeless during past years,” continued Doty. “SHOR’s ability to case-manage one-on-one to help folks become sustainable through gaining employment and housing has become a helpful resource on the Ridge. Community organizations collaborate to ensure which service will best suit the needs of community members. By all organizations working together to help community members in need, we can improve the well-being of the whole community.” SHOR invites the community to be part of the solution that addresses the Ridge’s homeless and at-risk population. To learn more about SHOR, to volunteer, or to make a donation, visit their website at shorparadise.com, email shorparadise@gmail.com or call 872-1162.
