Paradise Vet’s Hall
Exciting plans in the works at the Paradise Vet’s Hall
Although the Paradise Veteran’s Memorial Hall Hall has been closed due to COVID 19, Lawrence St. Germain, Commander for American Legion, and his team of veterans have been planning a Memorial Monument: A Salute to Ridge Veterans. Already in place is an inspiring metal sculpture depicting the 1945 Flag Raising at Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima, Japan. A donated Korean era jeep has been parked in front of the hall for many years, waiting for accompanying heavy artillery that the vets hope to receive via donation soon. The outdoor monument area is surrounded by the Six Service Flags, each one representing a branch of the military service. This open-air display is a fitting memorial to our brave Ridge veterans, but there is more to come. A 3,489 pound granite monument is being crafted by Chico Granite and Marble Works to honor fallen Ridge veterans. A statue of a soldier in full battle gear will be placed near the monument. In addition, there will be a small museum of military artifacts for display in show cases. Donations welcome; contact (530) 693-5891. Visit ParadiseChamber.com’s online community calendar for future Vets hall events, including the annual “Kids on the Ridge” Christmas Party with The Host Lions Club—health issues permitting.

Executive Director Gold Nugget Museum
Gold Nugget Days, Incorporated, (GND) Depot and Gold Nugget Museums are alive, and well-- working hard to bring you the latest in new developments and projects to preserve our history. We’re in this together and every effort has been made to maintain partnerships and foster new relationships while determining when and where our new museum will be built. After the Camp Fire, the Gold Nugget Museum moved its administrative functions into the Paradise Depot Museum. COVID-19 has closed the facility to the public, but administrative functions carry on our efforts to rebuild and make plans for the old museum site. Late last year we acquired the new museum building at 475 Pearson Road, catty corner to the previous site of the Gold Nugget Museum, previously Ridge Transmission. This new acquisition supports the storage of artifacts and shares space with sister organizations. Our determined board of directors are committed to remaining relevant as a community museum, and appreciate the support of the community and benefactors:

• North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) – Butte
Strong Fund, has awarded GND $214,000 to renovate and replace existing structures on the old museum site. Plans include: newly engineered bridges, permanent restroom facilities, parking, sections of Nuggetville, the Maidu encampment, and the schoolhouse to revive beloved school programs. Many more improvements are also scheduled throughout 2021! • Paradise Rotary has gifted $13,000 for the remodeling of our new building which will aid the museum in bringing its staff back to the site as stewards. • GND is currently evaluating access to the Rotarydonated caboose, located at the Depot Museum, Paradise
Community Park. Adding this feature to our visitor experience will provide essential context to the history of the Butte County Railroad and its influence on our Ridge communities. We are aware that these times have been difficult for our community, both near and far. In the contemporary sound of hammers and chainsaws, the historic sounds of picks and shovels are echoed, reminding us of us of our collective past. We rebuild, as we’ve done many times before.
