Exciting plans in the works at the Paradise Vet’s Hall

A

lthough the Paradise Veteran’s Memorial Hall Hall has been closed due to COVID 19, Lawrence St. Germain, Commander for American Legion, and his team of veterans have been planning a Memorial Monument: A Salute to Ridge Veterans. Already in place is an inspiring metal sculpture depicting the 1945 Flag Raising at Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima, Japan. A donated Korean era jeep has been parked in front of the hall for many years, waiting for accompanying heavy artillery that the vets hope to receive via donation soon. The outdoor monument area is surrounded by the Six Service Flags, each one representing a branch of the military service. This open-air display is a fitting memorial to our brave Ridge veterans, but there is more to come.

A 3,489 pound granite monument is being crafted by Chico Granite and Marble Works to honor fallen Ridge veterans. A statue of a soldier in full battle gear will be placed near the monument. In addition, there will be a small museum of military artifacts for display in show cases. Donations welcome; contact (530) 693-5891. Visit ParadiseChamber.com’s online community calendar for future Vets hall events, including the annual “Kids on the Ridge” Christmas Party with The Host Lions Club—health issues permitting.
