Age smart... PARC SMART Dorothy, fitness fanatic, Mulberry PARC

Healthy aging doesn’t come without some conscious effort towards a healthy diet. The good news? At PARC Retirement Living, we take care of all that for you. Our highly skilled onsite chef considers it his job to ensure every resident is enjoying a healthy well-balanced, nutritious and delicious menu of foods each and every day. In addition, we offer PARC SMART entrées, which are: >

low in sodium

> low in fat/saturated fat

> low in concentrated sugars > portion-controlled

It’s all part of our Independent Living+ program, where our focus is to provide residents with maximum opportunity to age actively and maintain their health and wellness. Take this PARC SMART smoothie for example. The kale and spinach are packed with phytochemicals, natural cancer cell inhibitors.

When asked the question, “What’s a typical day for you?” Mulberry PARC resident, Dorothy, is not likely to give you a short answer. That’s because every day is more or less full for her. Ever since Dorothy moved in, she has never been one to sit idle. For starters, she takes advantage of all the exercise opportunities she can at Mulberry PARC. She’s in the gym three mornings a week stretching, on the bike and doing weights, attends group exercise class twice weekly, yoga once a week and does chair volleyball. The end result is a woman who has more vigor than most people several decades younger. “Exercise gives you more confidence,” explains Dorothy. “You stand up straighter, and you have more energy.” Her youthful energy helps other parts of her life. She can often be found on her hands and knees planting and weeding in the patio garden at Mulberry PARC, she attends nearly every entertainment event brought in by the staff, and is always happy to socialize. “We keep very busy here,” she smiles. “When people say they’re bored, it’s because they’re not doing anything. Here, there’s always something to do.” As for her energy, it doesn’t appear to be slowing anytime soon. That’s how it is at Mulberry PARC: residents get involved. They stay active. And pursue passions. They eat healthier and laugh more. And with PARC’s focus on maintaining a healthy body and mind through our Independent Living+ program, it’s easy to see how life’s just better here. PARC Retirement Living welcomes adults 65+.
