HAS YOUR CHILD TRIED IT?
Technology is a word on everyone’s lips today. We take pride in our ‘tech savvy’ children, but surely, there is more to it than tinkering with smart phones, video games and social media? We find that technology can in fact, offer a much deeper learning experience for today’s children, in the form of programming. To know more, read on. During the summer holidays, you may have noticed the numerous announcements for workshops and classes in robotics. Not as ubiquitous in media, but equally trend setting, are avenues for computer programming, for children. Robotics involves design and operation of computerised machines. Think lots of moving parts, electronics, sensors and controllers. Analysis, understanding, and solving of problems to arrive at a sequence of instructions for the computer is what programming is all about. How do these new age hobbies benefit children?

LET’S WRITE
BOOKS! Prabhat Mandal, founder of Magicc in Parenting, has been involved in helping parents become more confident in making choices as well as empowering them to spend quality time spent with their children. Over 12 years, he has trained and coached several thousands of parents. It is said that books are true friends, as they nourish the souls of readers. The habit of reading books is certainly a great gift that parents can give to children by nurturing it. But it should not just end there! Authoring books is quite a bit of work and only a few take a step forward in this direction. In this summer of 2018, let’s make history with our children by authoring our first books. Transformation from reader to author - sounds exciting, doesn’t it?
Step 1
Make a plan of activities Summer holidays offer great opportunities - visits to family/friends/new places or learning new skills or doing a new activity. If you have already planned (and also executed!), it lays a good foundation for your first book. If not planned, it is not too late yet.
Step 2
Parents - Enjoy the holidays! Children generally make the most of holidays, but parents forget to relax and rejuvenate. Parents can very well enjoy with children and create memories for life, balancing work commitments with leisure activities. Having fun together is a great way to bond with children.
Step 3
Take lots of pictures Capture fun and memorable moments from different angles. This is to ensure you do save the essence of the experiences as much as possible. Parents need to take the lead here, especially with pre-schoolers and primary schoolers. Older children may surpass parents in this aspect, of course!
