WELCOME TO THE FRANCIS PARKER SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAM — OUR 59TH CONSECUTIVE SUMMER OF OPERATION! We are delighted that your family is considering spending a part of the upcoming summer with us. Whether on the Mission Hills (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5) or Linda Vista Campus (Grades 6 to 12), we invite your family to join us for a summer of great learning, enrichment, and advancement opportunities. With over 70 academic and arts classes offered, coupled with the return of a variety of sports camps, students can explore, experiment, and play their way through a memorable summer. Our afternoon activities programs at both the Lower School and Middle School levels are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) for operating a safe and a secure “camp” environment. We know there are a number of summer options from which families can choose here in San Diego. That said, we want the Parker program to be your first choice. Accordingly, we are offering 2017 prices for virtually all academic classes and Parker-directed sports camps for families who take advantage of the Early Bird registration option. Also, for the first time, we are providing a Multiple Session Discount if you choose to enroll your child(ren) for classes or afternoon activities in both Session I and Session II. All class and afternoon activity descriptions, pricing, schedule information, and registration instructions can be found at francisparker.org/summer. If you have questions or comments about the Parker Summer Program in general, please contact the Summer Program office. Thank you.

Fun! Sun! Friends!
(JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN to GRADE 5) For the youngest children, our Mission Hills Campus provides the ideal setting for fun classes, social growth, and afternoon activities set in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment. DAILY SCHEDULE
Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten Little Explorers programs run from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. There is a mid-morning snack and recess, and an afternoon snack for all Little Explorers. Grade 1 to Grade 5 classes begin at 8:30 am and conclude by 12:30 pm, with lunch served just before noon. For families interested in enrolling their child(ren) on a full-day basis, Summer Fun! returns. Summer Fun! (appropriate for Grade 1 to 5 students) begins immediately after a Parker-prepared lunch and takes children off-campus for fun, safe, age-appropriate activities and field trips to destinations such as the beach, the San Diego Zoo, and Aquatica. Summer Fun! students are transported on a Parker school bus with appropriate adult supervision. All Summer Fun! participants, regardless of age or grade level, are guaranteed loads of fun with friends while they visit premier San Diego destinations each afternoon.
EXTENDED DAY CARE The Summer Program offers extended day care each morning from 7:30 to 8:15 am, and then again in the afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. There is a flat $12 daily fee for morning extended day care and a flat $20 daily fee for afternoon extended day care. Families are invoiced immediately following Session I and Session II for day care charges.
LUNCH AND SNACKS A prepared lunch and morning/afternoon snacks are provided for all students enrolled in the Lower School program at no additional charge. Gluten-free options are available on both campuses.

Prepare! Engage! Succeed! (GRADES 6 to 8) The Middle School program helps rising Grade 6 students prepare for their first year of Middle School on their new campus, review and reinforce existing skill sets for rising Grade 7 kids, and prepares rising Grade 8 students for their final year before moving to the Upper School. DAILY SCHEDULE Middle School classes and activities are delivered in a relaxed setting, with students-to-teacher ratio kept small by design. The program offers brush-up courses, bridging classes and a variety of new learning opportunities guaranteed to keep students' brains engaged. The class day begins at 8 am and concludes by 12 pm for most classes (with an optional lunch served from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm). The majority of classes run two hours in length: from 8 to 10 am, and 10 am to 12 pm. After a morning of exercising the mind, we encourage parents to register their child(ren) in Parker’s signature Lancer Camp. Afternoon activities-based field trips take the campers to a different San Diego destination point daily, with a 12:30 pm departure and a 3:30 pm return to the Linda Vista Campus. Lancer camp students are transported on a Parker school bus with appropriate adult supervision.
EXTENDED DAY CARE Afternoon extended day care, supervised by Parker staff, is available from 3:30 to 5:30 pm for students wishing to remain on campus after Lancer Camp ends. There is a flat $20 daily fee for afternoon extended day care. Families using this service are invoiced following Session I and Session II. “The Parker Summer Program 9
provided my son with the chance to explore a variety of visual arts opportunities, while the math class in which he enrolled prepared him well for that next year’s work in the discipline. Valuable bridging experiences, both. Further, I cannot say enough about the afternoon Lancer Camp. What a great way to explore San Diego’s diverse attractions while developing many new friendships! – B.C.S. Parker Mom

UPPER SCHOOL PROGRAM The Summer Program provides a range of classes in science, mathematics, visual arts, performing arts and technology. Most courses are taught by Parker traditional school-year teachers. In addition, a variety of sports camps will be in place — some led by Parker staff and coaches, others by outside vendors.

LUNCH AND SNACKS For students enrolled in both morning and afternoon classes, lunch is included. For those enrolled in either morning or afternoon classes separately, lunch may be purchased for $7, daily.
“My son, William, attended the Summer Program two years ago. It was a great experience for him. William got to know students from all over the world and gained a vivid view of American culture and life while at Parker. The Parker teachers were all very kind and as a result, William learned a great deal in each course he took. – Gang W.

Sports Camps Return! (AGES 5 to 18) During the traditional school year as well as during the summer, Parker prides itself on educating and shaping the whole child, subscribing to the maxim of “sound body, sound mind.” SPORTS CAMPS With re-turfed playing surfaces on the Lauer Multi-Purpose Field, the Greenberg Baseball Field, and the Kidd-Wohlford Softball Field, the 2018 Summer Program is set to deliver a variety of sports camp options, beginning mid-June and running through early August. Sports camps are open to Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School students with camps held on Parker’s Linda Vista campus (with the exception of tennis). Outside vendors, including, Nike®, Top Gun Basketball, and Performance Athletics Softball are projected to return to the Linda Vista Campus. All camps are run by experienced coaches and feature skill-level and agespecific training sessions and competition. Student-to-coach ratios are kept intentionally low to afford the best possible learning and personal growth.
NOTE: The Early Bird Registration Discount applies only to Parker-coached sports camps. Outside vendordirected camps are not eligible for the Early Bird Discount.
“Our son attended
the Nike® Basketball Camp last summer. The coach-to-athlete ratio was fantastic. The camp developed our son’s physical and mental skills, as well as his confidence level. Highly recommend. – Nicole and Robert D., Point Loma
