SCHOOL SPIRIT THE PARKER WINDOW
THE LANCER
Parker's window, a distinctive barbed quatrefoil design, is a defining feature of the Mission Hills Campus' Szekely Auditorium (pictured on cover) and was the inspiration for the School's logo and tagline, “as far as the mind can see.
SCHOOL COLORS Parker's colors are brown, gold, and teal. The two original colors, brown and gold, were taken from the brown terraces and canyons with the yellow violets, our School flower. The teal color was added as a tertiary color in 2012 during the School's centennial year. By incorporating a blue tone, we truly look toward the limitless sky, "as far as the mind can see."
Parker's fearless Lancer, introduced in the late 1960s when the Upper School was reestablished, has been reimagined to capture the spirit of Parker.
SPIRIT WEAR Show your Parker Pride with spirit wear for the whole family. Parker-themed clothing and accessories can be purchased online at parkerspirit.com.

PARKER BASICS One School: Parker is one School located on two campuses with three divisions—Lower, Middle and Upper. Parker serves students from more than 80 zip codes across San Diego County. Two Campuses: Parker has two campuses in the Mission Hills and Linda Vista neighborhoods. Three Divisions: Parker has three School divisions: Lower (JK to Grade 5), Middle (Grades 6 to 8) and Upper (Grades 9 to 12). Each School has its own Head. Kevin Yaley, the Head of School, oversees all three divisions in addition to School-wide operations and finances. Mission Hills (MH) Campus: The Lower School was established in 1912 by Clara Sturges Johnson and her husband, famed architect William Templeton Johnson. They brought Col. Francis W. Parker’s educational ideals from Chicago to San Diego. The barbed quatrefoil on the Szekely Auditorium was Johnson's signature mark and that special window symbolizes Parker’s motto, “as far as the mind can see.” Linda Vista (LV) Campus: The home of the Middle and Upper Schools. The School has been a proud member of the Linda Vista community since 1971 when Parker purchased the San Miguel School for Boys that previously occupied the property. Heart of Campus (opening 2018): A strategic initiative that ensures students and faculty can park safely on the Linda Vista Campus. The Heart of Campus project also opens up a cascading set of benefits for the School, including a deepening of programs, enhancing students’ sense of pride and place, and serving as a central gathering space for Middle and Upper School students.

GLOSSARY Annual Giving: Annual gifts advance Parker’s mission, support our culture of diversity and inclusion, ensure the best academic experience for each student, and help the School bridge the gap between tuition and cost of a Parker education. Tuition falls short of the true cost of a Parker education. Every student at Parker is subsidized, even students who do not receive financial assistance. The gap between tuition revenues and full annual cost is approximately $2,450 per student. Our goal is 100 percent parent giving participation. Back to School Night: All parents are invited to their child’s classes to meet the faculty and experience a shortened version of a day-inthe-life of their student. Day of Giving: The Tuesday after Thanksgiving has come to be recognized as a global celebration of generosity. Parker participates in this special day, with the PA's leadership and as part of the Gala efforts, to raise support for faculty professional development. Financial Assistance: Parker provides aid to qualified families who submit financial information through School & Student Services (SSS). SSS is a nationally recognized program used by independent schools nationwide to assess a family’s demonstrated financial need. The School awards financial assistance to 20 percent of the student body for a total of $5 million. Even though many families at Parker make financial sacrifices to pay tuition, whether they receive financial assistance or not, it is crucial for every member of our community to participate in our annual giving campaign. Gala: The PA’s annual fundraising event, which raises support for student financial assistance, includes auctions, dinner, and entertainment. In addition, there are two fundraising efforts to support the Gala: Day of Giving (which raises support for faculty professional development) and Lower School movie night.
