EMBASSY OF ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 3216 NEW MEXICO AVE, NW. WASHINGTON, D.C. 20016 TEL. NO: (202) 364-6730 FAX NO: (202) 364-6736 3rd January, 2014 Fellow Vincentians and Friends of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, A Happy New Year to All! Please accept best wishes from the Embassy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for a blessed 2014. Ten days after the Christmas disaster in SVG, our relief efforts remain constant. We are encouraged by the outreach we have received from the Vincentian community and friends of Vincentians, enquiring as to how you can help. Thank you very much for your willingness to assist! Still, we have much more work to do. There are several communities which had been totally cut off and are now somewhat accessible for assessment of the damage. The damage to our infrastructure is phenomenal. It has also become painfully clear, that many of those who have been rendered homeless will remain in shelters for months, and not weeks. You can view some of the images of the devastation on the Embassy’s website at: www.embsvg.com. A list from our National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), updated as at yesterday’s date, is included with this note. For those who are willing and able to make in-kind donations, we are pleased to inform you of the following contact persons and collection points throughout the United States: WASHINGTON, D.C. We are informed that Standard Shippers Inc. has generously undertaken to ship the collected items from New York to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. However, one of our greatest logistical challenges at this point remains that of securing air freight and shipment of goods gratis, or at a significantly concessionary rate from other collection points in the USA. We urge those of you with contacts in the shipping industry to use your influence to assist us in this regard. Monetary contributions are also urgently needed for the rebuilding and rehabilitation process. Your monetary contributions can be received via the following means: 1. A cheque sent in care of the Embassy Organisation (NEMO)
to the National Emergency Management
2. Directly to NEMO’s Bank account: National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) National Commercial Bank Halifax Street Account Number: 137736 Swift Code: NCB VVC 22
account (SVG Disaster Relief): https://www.paypal.com/cgibin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=CSE3JS8GJF3WY
3. PayPal
We sincerely hope that you can contribute as well as share this information with as many people that can assist. The need is dire and all the assistance provided is deeply appreciated. With thanks and best wishes.
